I was trying to get vorpx to work on Fallout 4, but when I am on the main screen I am averaging about 42 game fps according to the Alt+f statistics that vorpx provides. But when I run the game outside of the rift I average well over 2100 fps on the main screen. I have everything optimized from the config file and have tried changing and lowering the resolution but I just cannot seem to get it to go above the 40 range. I can tell the fps is low because it makes you deathly ill very fast from the jagged head movement. I have tried changing the geometry to z-adaptive but the fps remains the exact same. I tried saving the settings and restarting and it has not helped.

I also tried it with oblivion and I cannot get oblivion to go above around 50fps ingame while in vorpx, but then I get around 410 fps ingame without the rift and tried changing the modes as mentioned before as well.

Both games are 100% vanilla, fresh install.

Using Vorpx 16.1.2. Oculus SK 1.3.1

    Specs:
    GPU : GTX 980
    CPU : i7-3930k overclocked to 4.5ghz
    Mem : 64gb
    OS : Win 10 64bit

Ok …. I tried Fallout 4. It started in VorpX, but crashed before fully loading (but I think that was savegame related). Perhaps it’s an issue with WoW. I’ll look into a bit more.

Yeah fair enough, I agree with you about Fallout 4 being better in z adaptive. Its a better trade off in the end.

Skyrim has taken a noticeable jump in quality now to my eye. The scale never seemed quite right before but now everything sits very well together. Much smoother also.

For serious Fallout 4 playing over a longer time I would highly recommend to switch to Z-Buffer 3D. Runs a lot smoother that Geometry 3D.

Some people don’t like Z3D, hence G3D is now the default. But in my honest opinion, games as demanding as Fallout 4 are way better played with a slightly flatter Stereo 3D than with a low frame rate around 30fps. Your mileage may vary, of course.

    Works way better now!

Works better than Fallout 4 now in my opinion.

    vorpX 16.1.2 has been released.

This is a maintenance release that mainly addresses a few DK2 related issues with the last version. List of changes:

    • Fallout 4: 15-20% performance gain when using Geometry 3D
    • Some OpenGL games only displayed horizontal bars instead of the game
    • Oculus Rift CV1: 3D mode controls weren’t always shown in settings UI.
    • Oculus Rift DK2: head-tracking did not work correctly in some DX11 games
    • Oculus Rift DK2: fix for severe performance degradation in some DX11 games
    • Oculus Rift DK2: potential(!) fix for Desktop Viewer not showing in headset on some configurations

For information about the last big release please click here.

If you already own vorpX, it should auto-update when you start vorpX Control next time. If it doesn’t for some reason, simply use the web installer that you received when you purchased vorpX. It will download the latest version available.

Important note for vorpX 0.9.1 users:

vorpX 0.9.1 will only auto update if you have the Oculus runtime 0.8 running. vorpX 0.9.1 cannot start otherwise and initiate the auto update! If you already installed runtime 1.3, please try this:

Workaround 1: Use your web installer to install 16.1.1 manually
Workaround 2: Use the runtime switcher linked here to allow 0.8 run side by side with 1.3:

If the runtime switcher does not help and you don’t have your web installer anymore, please contact support |at| vorpx com.

Hey, check out Ralf’s response from the Fallout 4 issue, it might work for you:

It was a DK2 issue, and you can apply a fix immediately if you want. I will release an update later today.

To apply the fix manually please

    1. Close vorpX if currently running.
    2. Browse to C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Local\Animation Labs\vorpX\Devices
    3. Open OculusRiftDK2.ini with Notepad
    4. Search for iTimewarpMode
    5. Change iTimewarpMode=0 to iTimewarpMode=10
    6. Save the file
    7. Restart vorpX

The AppData folder may be invisible. If so, please enable “Show hidden files” in Windows Explorer

I don’t have the other runtimes installed so I don’t think that’s it. I did notice in this thread, however, that another person with the same issue, edo, is having the same problem but noticed that “ok got a few games to run, eg skyrim, batman, fallout 4, however I never get rid of that “Please waiting” screen which launches as soon as I start vorpx.”

I do have Skyrim so I may try to see if vorpX interfaces with it correctly later. He did state that GTAV and the vorpX Desktop (I have tried the latter) did NOT work from him, though. I think Ralf may have also misinterpreted his claims of the grey screen sowing up as being the disclaimer screen rather than the “Please Wait…” screen. So we’re definitely seeing something hang. Ralf did mention in that thread that you can contact support [at] vorpx.com to get the previous version of vorpX that runs with the 0.8 runtime if you really want to get up and running right away. Personally I’m fine sticking it out and seeing if we can figure out what’s happening, though. So far I think we are seeing a common thread here of Windows 10, GTX 980 cards and using the DK2. I do have a CV1 on the way, but I’m a :45 order so I suspect I won’t see it until probably May so I can’t be much help on seeing if that makes a difference for us.

I’m having similar issues. I didn’t notice that my body was moving to be honest. Either way something is off.

[SOLVED] Fallout 4 – Head tracking problem with Vorpx 16.1.1

It’s hard to describe, but when I look right or left I the screen peels away from my view and I see off the edge of the screen; almost like it’s in cinema mode.

Yeah same for me (odd and difficult to describe). Its like a screwed up backwards virtual cinema mode (or edge peek). Fallout 4 was fine in the previous release. Glad its not just me. Head tracking seems backwards and there is a screen in front (virtual cinema works fine btw).

Same thing happens for me in Bioshock infinite and Alien isolation.

This doesn’t happen for Skyrim or Dishonored (completely fine in those two).

ok got a few games to run, eg skyrim, batman, fallout 4, however I never get rid of that “Please waiting” screen which launches as soon as I start vorpx. I launch the games over top of that screen and they seem to work however upon exiting the game the dk2 screen goes black and hangs. I have to exit vorpx and then the oculus store/library comes back on the dk2. Something is not happy there!

Also still no luck with vorpx desktop.

I have reinstalled, rebooted, reinstalled again. Still no luck. I am hesitant to do a full uninstall first since I am afraid that might erase my license key. Anyway it works this way; sort of. The “please wait” and hangup still seems to be there but If I ignore them the few games I have tried, do work. (GTA still doesn’t work but that may be the GTA VR mod not ready for 1.3 sdk)

    (Windows 10, DK2, SDK 1.3, NVidia 364.51 driver, gtx980ti )

I’m getting the same thing. Sometimes the monitor goes blank and others the game displays there.

Sound comes through my CV1 headphones no problem as if the game is running just not displaying. When I move my head I can hear sounds as if I am highlighting options on screen (Fallout 4)

The Desktop viewer works but as soon as I try to load a game through that the CV1 goes blank.

VR Games in Steam run no problem with Untrusted Sources enabled.

No look inversion for me. I did have a successful startup of desktop viewer, though I can’t say why. From there I was able to successfully start Fallout 4. It is giving me the error again now. I wish I knew why it worked that one time!

You get the very same time warp effect in every menu that is fixed to the screen with low frame rates. That is perfectly normal. Improve your frame rate and it will be gone. It’s also always a good idea to use EdgePeek in any menu as this is way more comfortable. I wouldn’t even recommend running Fallout 4 on ultra settings with a GTX980Ti BTW.

I’m not quite sure what you mean by double head tracking to be honest. If the game view turns too fast, please re-adjust the head tracking sensitivity on the head tracking page of the vorpX ingame menu.

Yes Ive applied the game optimizer and its still the same. Pip boy mode head tracking is reversed, normal view head tracking is doubled.

A thought has just occurred to me ..I remember when I originally set up fallout 4 with vorpx the head tracking in the up and down axis was 50% what it needed to be and I changed some settings in the .ini file iirc. Could this be causing this?

silly me I forgot to do that (and I’ve been using vorpx since DK1 days).
OK FOV fixed, but something is still messed up with the headtracking. It’s hard to describe, but when I look right or left I the screen peels away from my view and I see off the edge of the screen; almost like it’s in cinema mode.
