OK, so Dead Space probably not the best first game to try. Turns out even total uninstall of vorpx still didn’t let it start up without crashing; something obviously got broken between last time I played and buying the Vive that had nothing whatsoever to do with vorpx.

Had to go reset the settings to turn off Vsync and turn off fullscreen to get it to run again. Will keep trying…maybe with something else first.

I did notice that even stopping vorpx apps using task manager, they auto-start when you start a game executable? Is there a way to have the ‘option’ to use VR or not when running games after installing, just in case? Sorry for probably ignorant questions here. Thanks again for fast Vive support and I’m sure it’ll be great!

Is there a reason why keys aren’t sent out with the receipt? You have to process them yourself or something with the way the site is set up?
Just curious. I just bought this and didn’t realize that the keys weren’t delivered as most others are automatically. Not a huge deal, just refresh crazy haha. It’s like trying to order my Vive all over again trying to get through only this time just looking for the new email lol. I’m honestly just as excited about it as well since the games are very limited and while the Rift has gathered more support my Vive is not getting so much love from others out there making games work (even though it’s open source….). Thank you for spending the time on it. Much appreciated and looking forward to checking it out with your software.

As promised I purchased today! Thank you for getting the Vive support rolling. This head set war started by Oculus is ridiculous. It’s like they are trying to kill VR before it even starts…. From leader to destructor haha (If you live long enough you become the bad guy?) Anyway, thanks Ralph. Keep up the good work and I’ll be sending you more business as I have some friends who have picked up some Vives as well.

You need to enable SteamVR. vorpX only works when SteamVR is running. If it already is running, please try to restart it.

Thanks for the reply, Yeah I actually just realised that. There was nothing in the documents that said I had to run steamvr first and I was confused because steamvr still says its launching in theater mode so I thought it wasnt it.

Anyway, enjoying some of it so far and some of it I guess I havent figured out yet

    I had a few other questions…

I tried fallout 4, I ran the setup and optimized it, I also checked the ini file to make sure the fov and stuff was set.

The game still seems weird on the zoom, and most of the hud is not even visable, I checked the fov and its set to 120.

It locks it to 1280×720 and theres no option for 1080×1200 or whatever its supposed to be in that popup that warns me about it.

Also why does it cap me at 45 fps reprojected? The lagg makes me kinda dizzy, I’m running a 980 ti, 5930k, and 32gb of ram, everything overclocked super high water cooled, and I only get 45fps on medium settings? I can get 90+ fps in any VR game that I play

Fear not Carpediemsnuts. Vorpx is legit and the real deal. You’ll get the software even if it takes a little bit. Works great. I’m surprised Oculus/Facebook or HTC/Valve haven’t walked up to Ralf with a bucket of money yet but who knows how that works. Anyhow, I consider Vorpx must have software for the HMD.

Nothing I try will work, not even the vorpX desktop viewer will work. Everything I try I get a black screen and this error

“Initializing the VR compositor failed. Please check whether steamVR is installed correctly”

vorpX works fine with 45fps+ with Vive, with Rift you can even get away with a few fps less. With the recommended specs for both headsets (GTX970) you can play most games. The faster the better, of course. SLI does not work currently with vorpX.

I bought the VorpX software before the Vive support was even listed, assuming VR was VR, little did i know… but glad to see official support coming, I have only one complaint with the vive, the games are all EXPENSIVE demos.

I have bought and played a ton of them, and I have to say, if anything kills VR its the lackluster sub-par “pre-alpha” demos for sale at retail prices.

Ralf might be the savior for VR, at least for me… I cannot WAIT to play some actual AAA titles in VR.

Speaking of which, do you have an ETA for when you might first introduce Vive support?

List of games in my personal order of worth the money:

*.) Minecraft (minecrift-Vive) EPIC levels of fun! but no 1.9 support….
1.) Final Approach – Super Fun and interesting use of VR(full game)
2.) Budget cuts (demo) – Wicked fun, but a demo
3.) Space pirate trainer – Wicked fun (sold as full game, but its Pre-alpha)
4.) Vanishing Realms – Really Fun (Chapter 1 of X)
5.) Job Simulator – Really Fun first time through (kind of 4 demos)
6.) The Lab – fun (Demo Pack)
7.) Windlands – Oddly fun (only a short way into it)
    8.) TheBlu – not really worth the $10 but i kept it – (3 Short Demo’s)
9.) Fantastic Contraption – mediocre (came with my HMD)
10.) Cloudlands VR Golf (refunded) Terrible music, hard to see where you need to teleport to, and the courses are odd
11.) Call of the star seed The Gallery – (refunded) REALLY short, not that fun, not optimized, odd glitches and $30 (2hours of gameplay) for the first chapter of the game!!!!!!!!!!!
12.) Descent underground (refunded) – Runs like crap on my 4.8Ghz 980Ti-SLI PC, Multiplayer or Bots only, head movement locked to monitor refresh rate, almost made me vomit.

Anyone try the out of ammo, elite dangerous, Luca, or 5089?

I completely agree with everything you said. I was going to cancel my vive preorder until i came across this forum saying vive support was in the works.

I have played 5089, it’s a good game but i ended up returning it. The guns put the vive controller at a 90 degree angle from the barrel, unlike space pirate trainer, which sits at a more natural angle. I didn’t think i could deal with that long term.

Does the cost of Vanishing Realms cover the upcoming chapters? I read it was short, only 2 hours… so i avoided it because it’s so expensive. It does look like the coolest launch title though.

Although, none of this matters now that vorpx supports the vive. I’m reinstalling Fallout 4 now ;-)

Registered just to say, also, that I would love to get this on Steam (for Vive), and would even pay a higher price there versus here for the convenience.

Steam users are not dumb however I can see what you are getting at. But the majority of Pc gamers use steam, if they aren’t than they probably are just getting it for free and how good is vorpex at anti piracy. Sometimes I am looking for software that does something specific and when I find it I search tpb for it. When its on steam I don’t think twice. I know that I’ll get my auto updates news and community for every bit of software on steam and if it doesn’t work even after fucking with the settings (mydream swift) I refund it.

Hi Ralph, thanks for the ‘heads up’!
JoeMoore, i’m sorry mate, don’t have a clue what your talking about…

    @Ralph,
i’ve finally managed to launch rFactor, rFactor2 and also R6 Siege (not supported, just as test).

Now, here’s some more Q’s.. i’m not complaining here, just checking if that’s expected or i’m messing something (not that unusual :)

Q1 – the Oculus Home software/virtual menu will allways start everytime i kick a game’s exe. Even if i close it’s tray icon, once i click either game or vorpx game shortcut it opens the Oculus Home and the virtual menu on the HMD’s.. Is that okay?? Isn’t this stealling system resources? And that takes me to Q2

Q2 – all 3 mentioned games have very poor headtracking.. it feels like it’s snnaping on a grid or something, like 5FPS, it’s unbearable. And the DK2 loading icon keeps showing and the screen freezes like it’s struggling to process the thing.. wich can’t be with my specs! So, what’s going on here?

Q3 – Left and Right images are inverted in the HMD’s, it was particulary noticed in rF2. Right eye is getting left image and vice versa, and i don’t find any option to switch it. The in-game menu options for changing axis does nothing..
But the stereo is there, seems very promising, except for the L/R being messed up and the poor head tracking FPS. I mean, coming from PCARS on Steam VR, wich is smooth as silk, so far my short experience with vorpx hasn’t been.. the best :(

Q4 – last one… to run Steam games, Steam VR should be ON or not?? Some games like RaceRoom need a -vr launch setting to kick VR. Should i use such with vorpx?

Ralph, i get you’re VERY busy mate, but please try to follow the Q’s, it makes it a lot easier for me and others to LEARN stuff. I work in videogame industry and we’re just discovering the virtues of VR ;)

    Thanks!

PS – before someone asks about R6 Siege experience.. you can use your ‘nose’ as a pointer, but the image is too blurry (DK2) and theres zero stereo atm, all you get is headtracking and extra zoom for that special HS, but besides that, it’s not worthy… yet! (not vorpx problem here, game needs VR development)

    Hey Vorpx/Ralph,

I’m pretty confident i’ve red most of guides/troubleshooting, but still, the lack of basic info both from Vorpx and Oculus boggles my mind, mostly because VR’s still a WIP “product”, is it not? I mean, there’s plenty info regarding in-game usage, but not so much regarding how to start the game itself?
I know i’m not Einstein material, but usually i’m not total moron either (hopefully :)

So here’s some Q’s for your A’s, PLEASE

    a) how should i set the DK2 on windows (Win7 64)? Should i even bother with that? Vorpx recommends setting Rift as primary screen as the most compatible set. But with latest (direct) runtime, rift doesn’t even show at windows screen settings.. it only does if ran in extended mode, right? So how to make it primary?

    b) what runtime should i run? If you say last (1.3.2), it does not support extended mode.. Is it an issue? Does it matter for Vorpx driver if DK2 is running direct or extended? If a game only runs on extended mode, can i still play it? How?

    c) Vorpx help says we should get rid of nvidia 3D vision AND Geforce Experience, BUT Oculus help says i need the latest Geforce Experience. Help?

    d) should i start Oculus Home before starting Vorpx? If i do, the HMD’s will automatically show the oculus virtual menu, so how do we get from there into a Vorpx activated game?

    c) if i don’t need to start anything from Oculus software, it’s like it’s not even connected, windows only recognizes the DK2 and both blue LED light up when i run Oculus Home.. So, to make it simple, let’s say i reboot. From now, how exactly am i supposed to launch any Vorpx ‘thing’?

    d) the tray icon does not show any “VR desktop” choice.. just – Configure vorpx – Show help – Pause watcher – Create desktop shortcut – exit. So where’s the VR desktop i also bought?

    c) in the configuration menu, Local Profiles shows several game names, but what are they for? If i click @ Import Settings/Profile there’s nothing? It prompts for *.vps *.vpp extension.. so where should i look for them? Are they part of the supported games software? I’ve been looking around rFactor2, can’t find it…

    d) is there a way besides having the tray icon that tells me Vorpx is REALLY running?

    e) this one should maybe go to oculus, but it doesn’t harm asking.. in extended mode (with pre 0.8 runtime) the HMD’s image shows crossed if i use native 1920×1080 for the DK2. The ONLY config that shows correct desktop image on the HMD’s is 948×1080, no matter if it’s primary or secondary.. Why is that?

Thanks for the time and help! I really need it because so far nothing (vorpx activated) is showing on the DK2… (at oculus home, everything works like a charm!)

    specs: i7-4790, GTX970, 16Gb ram, Rog Hero VII, Win7 64, Rift DK2 (1.3.0)

    Hi all, Just an FWIW/IMO…

I’m a huge fan/player of Skyrim/Fallout and built/adapted my rig specifically for them. Been playing video games since the Pong arcade machine so I’m not a newb ;) Personally, I am just fine without roomscale features, though I wouldn’t complain if they ever come into being. As long as I can simply ‘see’ the world in actual VR, look around etc, I’ll haZ the happy of the Cheezbzburger cat at a McDonalds free food day.

Because the Beth games have such a force of talent in the modding community, I have little doubt that once the top names get their hands on Vives and Rifts, we will see as many incredible mods for them as we did in the normal games.

And considering, last I looked, Skyrim was still ridiculously high on Steam’s use list in spite of it’s age…well, I predict a much longer life thanks to VR. With the creation Kit for F4 about to release and the much better engine driving it/DX11 vs DX9, I’d imagine it will be easier to deal with for VR modder-devs.

But my overall point is that there are a L O T of us that want it, will use it and will pay for such functionality as required. It will take time of course. I don’t seriously expect seamless experiences day 1 or even day 100. But the possibility of Sky in VR is what drove my Vive purchase to begin with. I doubt I am alone. And it will only get better as time goes on.

    Running 16.1.2, Win 10 x64.

For some reason, I can never activage VorpX using the “Start VorpX” link – it appears in the tray, then crashes.

I can only get it to run using “configure VorpX”, then clicking “Apply and close.” Even that sometimes doesn’t work, and I have to re-launch the Oculus and VorpX software.

I hav the software set to run as administrator.

    Any ideas?
