If You want to play FSX in VR I would strongly recommend buying FlyInside Is nothing wrong with VorpX – I personally thing is great software – but I just can’t imagine playing FSX without all these extra features FlyInside have. Without it, You would need to continuously take Your hands of the joystick/yoke to grab the mouse, and that completely breaking immersion for me.

Also, I can’t see Prepar 3d or DCS on the list off games supported by VorpX so no wonder You can’t make it work.

And about the frame rate in FSX in VR. Try to use trial FlyInside and disable all traffic in FSX options. You will gain incredible amount of FPS, more then by cutting resolution in half and turning off AA. FlyInside also have built-in asynchronised time wrap which will help You with low FPS.

Thanks, I was completely wrong about Diablo III – I thought I had to increase the value to make the HUD come closer, not decrease it!

    Updated:
    Diablo III
The game is playing inside virtual cinema, which disappointed me a bit – but despite this flaw, it’s a really great experience!

@Ralf: as mas3 already mentioned, the physic based gameplay makes Exanima a good VR candidate. The games trailer shows actual gameplay not cutscenes – I think it gives some sort of idea of the games VR potential:

But I have to admit that the games combat system does have a pretty hardcore learning curve. It’s not especially advanced, but movement, blocking and attacking is completely unlike what has been seen in other games. Here’s the video that taught me the ropes. While not exactly selling the game, it do explains the raw mechanics:

just guessing, maybe it looks right in oculus and not in vive ? i could try using revive..

sorry guys but it’s hard for me to call vorpx a vr experience, there is no sense of immersion at all.

The main thing it lacks is the screen distortion, in order to get a feeling that you are actually inside the scene the screen must be distorted, else when you turn it looks like you are inside a crystal ball. In order to distort properly they have to find a way to use a perfect resolution that fits the hmd.

second thing it lacks is proper support for geometry 3d, most games have problems with shadows and a lot of shaders, they are putting very little effort on fixing shaders, and if you are a 3dvision user you know what i’m talking about. So for most games you have to play with fake 3d.

basically what you get is a big screen slapped on your face with head tracking, i will never play games this way, i prefer using 3dvision, better quality and better performance e g3d working fine thanks mostly to the community fixes.

vorpx is on the right way but still there is a lot of job to do.

What i would like to see in vorpx is not yet another title support in this state, instead i would like to see 100% compatibility with games where is possible to make it, mainly first person view games (what’s the point of vr on a third person view game??), so maybe 10 games where vr works as it should instead of 100 in this surrogate vr.

so to summarize, to get proper vr:
-use perfect resolutions to fit the hmd (undone)
    -adjusted fov (done somewhere)
    -screen distortion (undone)
    -proper artifact-free 3d (mostly undone)
    -head tracking (done)
    -adjusted menu/hud (done somewhere)

i understand that is not an easy job because is hacking an already done game with builded code, injecting dll and so on…
why not focusing on a single engine like UE for example so you’ll get a bunch of games with basically the same job, release a few game fixes that automatically inject what they need with minimal user interaction = everyone happy.

probably on many games this will never happen, but i’m sure this can be done on some titles, focus on those titles and forget the rest!!

i hope one day i’ll be able to use it so i can justify my purchase, atm let’s call it an early adopter of an interesting project that is not released yet.

Hi, I mostly bought this to play wow in VR, and hopefully Prepar3D.
WoW is listed as compatible but I have the release Oculus Rift from Best Buy and it doesn’t seem to work. I even downloaded the DK2 tracker.
All I see is the connecting to server screen, a Vortex message pops up, the mouse is moveable for a split second, then it freezes and the game continues to load in a separate window. Help please! If it doesn’t work could I please get a refund? $40 is a lot to pay for something that doesn’t work, and there was no trial that I saw.

Donno about WOW, or any other game with vorpx , except maybe arma3. Check out “FlyInside” for P3D. Developed by a standup guy who stands behind his work, he has a free demo btw. I have it, & it’s great! Lots of luck on a refund.

Those lines are repeating hundreds of times when trying to use the injector :
INF: D3D9 Manager: Buffer Resolution: 1080×1200
INF: Display Adapter Description: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti
INF: Display Adapter Device Name: \\.\DISPLAY1
    INF: Display Adapter Driver: C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_674733509ab83d72\nvd3dum.dll
INF: Display Adapter Driver WHQL: 0
INF: Nvidia Driver Version: 37290, r370_00
    ERR: D3D9 Manager: initDevice Exception

It’s still working, I can even open the ENB menu while inside the rift. But it is zooming only 75% or so of the screen and then rescaling those 75%.I can see it when I press the middle button. When I zoom into the screen, it ignores a portion of it when going in.

I immediately checked and the compatibility mode wasn’t checked to begin with.
I did check Windows 7/8 mode to see but it didn’t change anything sadly :(

The thing is, MO is a program that doesn’t change any file in the computer. It supposedly doesn’t touch the registry or anything, it’s just there, inside the game folder.I tried many older versions but it didn’t fix anything.
This is weird, almost unfair that only I have this insane issue.

Thank you for your reply.Actually I made a mistake in the title, it is Mod Organizer of course that I am using, not NMM.Shadows seem to work fine with Mod Organizer though?

As I said, I am killing myself since now 10 days to try and fix it.I have reinstalled everything many times (including Vorpx). So now, it is a completely vanilla game and vanilla Mod Organizer.

Without the rift, the benchmarks I do give the exact same fps and gpu/cpu usage between vanilla launcher/skse and vanilla skse/launcher through Mod Organizer. And absolutely no ctd (I could play for 10 hours straight and have 0 ctd).
But when I use Vorpx, skse/launcher will give me 50 to 60 fps, and then when I launch skse/launcher through MO I get 30 to 40.

I have tried so many things, and can’t find out why Mod Organizer is conflicting with Vorpx.Plus it seems that the more I launch through Mod Organizer, the more likely I am to get CTD’s inside Vorpx, while I will never get CTD’s playing on my monitor. And to fix the CTD’s I have to reinstall Vorpx every-time.This and strangely, my settings for in game skyrim never save after I close the program even though I did the vps save and reload trick.

I want to fix it so bad, Skyrim without Mod Organizer isn’t an option sadly.

I did write that the Ini’s were the same.
Launching skse or the launcher normally will give me around 50 to 60 fps inside the rift. But launching the skse or launcher through MO (we are talking about a vanilla MO with the same INI files) will give me 30 to 40.

OK thanks, another thing is that how can i adjust the screen up and down? In full vr mode, i use image zoom out. but the problem is my screen is too far above. I have to force my eye to look above if i want to aim correctly or something.

Also, i tested out far cry 3. Fov maximum you can set inside the game is 110. Not sure whether game setting optimizer works for that.

If you mean the direct mode setting in SteamVR than yes, you need to use direct mode, which is the default setting. Do not touch that setting ever unless you know exactly what you do.

If you can see something inside your headset with vorpX you probably already have that set up correctly, vorpX does not work at all with extended desktop mode.

    Hi ralf,

Just want to let you know i finally got it working with outlast. I don’t know how, but i read up some guide: disable steam overlay and desktop home threate and surprisingly it works. Values around 120 to 150 is comfortable for me. 160 or more is unbearable and screen starts to flip 180 deg upwards. Now the only problem is the game menu zoomed-in, is it intentional?

Gameplay inside outlast seems fine for me. Maybe full vr works for me afterall, just have to do some tweaking or stuff.

Game setting optimizer works by the way. But not sure for other games such as battlefield 4. This is the only game i got it first working with vorpX.

I quite confused with the extended mode and direct mode you talking about. Not sure what mode i am. But pretty sure i am in extended mode. Just got htc vive headset sorry newbie here :).

    >> Help me Obi-Wan! You’re my only hope! ;

I’m slowly getting old for sure, but not that old yet!

In contrast to the everlasting struggle between the Empire and the rebellion unfortunately there is no black and white here, just grey and vague answers.

A lot depends on the game. SLI might not help at all if it doesn’t work for a game with vorpX or your headset. Oculus for example didn’t in the past, not sure whether that is the case still.

Regarding CPU-affinity: Since vorpX runs inside the games, it’s main work is done within a game’s main render thread, so nothing you could manually assign to a different core here. The only thing you could assign to a core yourself is the vorpX Control app which watches for new programs getting started, but that’s more or less negligible. A few percent while vorpX isn’t active, even less while it is running in a game.

So all in all not much to gain by assigning something to an extra core, probably nothing. Since the 6/8 core i7 CPUs usually have a lower max. clock rate than the quad core units, I would even guess that you are better off with a fast quad core i7 model for gaming (which provides 8 logical cores with Hyper Threading enabled).

On a sidenote: not something you can do yourself, but I experimented with assigning the direct mode render thread manually to a dedicated core some time ago within the vorpX source code. In the ~10 games I tested with that there was absolutely zero difference, which pretty much also is in line with the majority opinion among programmers on the matter: in most cases the OS task scheduler simply is better or at least as good at balancing workload than anything a programmer can come up with.

I’ve followed the optional steps but NMS still appears inside a rectangle instead of me being inside the world, most like cinema mode with borders outside the rectangle.

    I’m using DK2.

    Regards.
