In reply to: Headtracking – issues, tips and tricks
museumsteveParticipantWe’ll work it out mate :)
I’ve got the evening free just to mess around so I’m confident there are simple answers to some of the hiccups.
I guess a lot of it may have to do with other things running in the background or maybe even what we’ve had running before.Maybe old opentrack files cause a problem for headtracking?

Aled BParticipantThat’s rather interesting JoeReMi, thanks for the info. I was certain I’d seen similar complaints on Reddit, good to have confirmation that I’m not the only one experiencing major issues.
Tridef works just as described with their supported games – not brilliantly granted, but hey at least it doesn’t cause constant crashes.

Dudesre89ParticipantI have sorted it and I am just now waiting on my key.
Sep 30, 2013 at 9:10pm #10475In reply to: I bought it, now the wait starts again ;-p
RalfKeymaster@ Azuretruth : You can ignore that, it’s a false alarm caused by the copy protection. Unlike most other AV-companies, Avira unfortunately requires us to re-submit every single version for whitelisting again, which takes some time. The alternative here was to either miss our release date or live with these false positives for a few days.
You can safely ignore any virus warning. if in doubt, just upload vorpX.dll to virustotal.com, which will show you that the vast majority of AV-scanners are able to detect vorpX correctly as totally legit software.
@golem : glad you could sort that out. :)Sep 26, 2013 at 1:03pm #10453In reply to: nearly the end of sept. will vorpx be out soon?
Dudesre89ParticipantWell he said before end of Sept and in my reckoning it isn’t the the end of Sept. Why not just wait until the end of Sept and see? I don’t think he will release it just because people are posting here expecting it.
Sep 6, 2013 at 8:43am #10424In reply to: Battlefield 3 Support
RalfKeymasterHeadtracking is supported for almost everything, including BF3 of course. Geometry 3D for DX11 titles isn’t 100% there yet, but that will change, *maybe* even before the public beta release, but most likely some time later.
Unless you have a high end rig, BF3 is one the titles where the main advantage of the Z-Buffer mode (SPEED!) outweighs its disadvantages by far anyway.
On a sidenote: I know that people have different opinions about this, and there’s nothing wrong with that, of course. Always beware of people who try to sell their opinions as truth. But as far as I’m concerned, constant 60fps are *much* more important than the kind of stereoscopy. I even play some titles with perfectly working Geometry 3D in Z-Buffer mode because of this.
Stereoscopy adds to the immersion, but it’s not the most important thing. Don’t believe me? Just close one eye and see whether you are still immersed in the real world or not. ;) The great thing about VR is being able to move and act inside the virtual world as naturally as possible. That is what really sets the Rift apart from playing games on a monitor, and that is what makes the experience so special. The kind of stereoscopy is just a (small) part of the equation.

MrGeddingsParticipantcool so it includes a controller mapper too? now thats not a bad deal :-) cant wait to get this. some wrote on other forums oh well tridef is gonna be better they have a bigger team.
meh. i was not that impressed with their beta the head tracking didnt feel right and game support is around the same as perceptions which is free..and the view render windows seem to ripped from the perception drivers too its like oh great..so you got a big team you say? so why does it feel like a let down? they really should have tested it out more……vorpx i think will rock :-) from the videos i saw on youtube in the rift…and even if the view size is that “smallish” in the rift because the edges are softer and it doesnt just cut off like it does on like unity games/demos. it feels better. but i think you said you have an option to make the “circles” bigger or smaller too which will be nice :-)
cant wait! nice to know just a few weeks!
Aug 5, 2013 at 2:09am #6287In reply to: Pay now / Alpha or Beta version?
HappyHimitsuParticipanti think its good to wait. i rather there be a lot of game support and less having to manually set up things. also i want the headtracking to just “work”. both tridef and perception just arnt there yet. and for 50 bucks i rather wait for a bit to have a driver that works…..that doesnt feel buggy that feels like a polished driver with many features. i griped before of it taking forever but seeing how both the other solutions in my opinion fail right now (more so tridef considering it costs 50 bucks they should have did more interial testing rather then rushing out a half baked beta that only offically suports nearly as many games (few) that perception does). i can wait a bit for someone to finally get it right. i hope Vorpx will be awesome!
What the hell Mr.Geddings, just a week ago you were screaming at Ralf and calling him a dick for not having a release yet, now you are saying it’s good to wait?
I think you better prepare yourself for disappointment because it doesn’t sound like you understand the fact that ‘retrofitted’ drivers (which is what VorpX is) will never be perfect.
Tridef never ‘pushed out’ a half baked beta, they make it clear on their website that the beta is ‘experimental’ and in a very early state. As well, for those of us who had already purchased Tridef for it’s stereo drivers, the Oculus Rift support is a nice addition to an already great product.
You could almost guarantee that many of the games that VorpX officially ‘supports’ will run at about the same level as many of the games that you can play with Tridef but are currently listed as ‘unsupported’ due to the amount of tweaking that are currently necessary to get them working just right.Aug 4, 2013 at 6:51pm #6154Topic: Just wanted to apologize for being impatient
in forum General vorpX Discussion
MrGeddingsParticipantJust wanted to say i am sorry for being a jerk and ranting like i did. but now that we have an annoucement of info on a release date for the beta in not to long thats great. Honestly seeing the other options out there, both felt rushed. So i understand now that something like this needs to be taken time to do. and theres no real since to allow people to try out something thats not quite there yet, case in point: the preception drivers and the tridef beta. both are not there yet. tridef i am really dissipointed in as i think they more or less just ripped half of the stuff from the perception drivers as i find it interesting their rendering is nearly the same with it being more long ways and how only a small “handful” of games work with it offically yet.
plus in both cases the headtracking just isnt there yet. I find that with the Rift the headtracking is so good that when its not quite right….you feel it. tridef with Skyrim just didnt feel right the 3d was fine but the headtracking just was not quite there. Same with the perception drivers in that case the headtracking felt a bit wobbly like you would move side to side and it felt like it was swaying a bit more then it should like sideways…..
so yeah. I am sorry i was a jerk over it. I guess i thought it would be forever, but it seems in cases like this it needs a lot of time. I think with a game driver for the Oculus Rift its better to wait till it works good then to just rush it out ..because if you rush it out and it doesnt work so well its just that more frustrating. the headtracking needs to be spot on if possible. otherwise i think it just makes the whole experience not quite there.
so im glad that your taking the time and at least we will have a bit of news soon when the beta will be avaible just try to keep working on headtracking and making sure it “feels right” with most of the games. as i think that will be one of the biggest things :-).
thanks for your hard work and i look foward to it when it comes out! sorry for being an a pain in the ass!

JimmylParticipantHi Ralf,
I feel I must also distance myself from the elephant in the room before adding my voice to the conversation. I have so far avoided being vocal here, mainly because Mr. Geddings has been so aptly demonstrating just how NOT to behave (I can totally understand why you would ignore that kind of behavior). Hopefully we can restore this site to a place for reasoned discussion, rather than the forum of threats, insults & tantrums it has become.
That being said I have to agree with the cooler heads above, in expressing concern that it has been such a long time since we saw (what to the layman appeared to be an outstanding, functional product) VorpX beta. Is it possible for you to say whether we will see a version sometime before the end of august? I think even a no would be a useful bit of expectation management at this point.
Jul 26, 2013 at 11:34am #2115In reply to: Pay now / Alpha or Beta version?
museumsteveParticipantwell yeah i understand that you have a job fine. but then again thats more the reason to release the thing now as a beta. you could earn some extra money and then just take it as you go. but whatever. what gets me is just that the fact you havent bothered to commmicate and provided any blog posts or any real updates in months i mean at the very least you could post a video once in a while of your progress you know? i didnt mean to be overly rude (and for the other guy so your saying you woudnt want a person to buy your product who was rude to you. online.thats stupid money is money if you take it so personal thats your problem)
it would just be nice to hear more updates or some sort of timeline. and i just wish youd go ahead and release the beta to those who wish to be “early adopters” its like what a lot of devs are doing these days, with kickstarter and things like star citizen. i honestly think thats a much better way to do a project anyways ….expecally if you are more transparent and at least try to provide good status updates too. just leaving everyone in the dark on things just is really frustrating.
but i really think you should release the beta for those who want to pay early that will releave some pressure as you have the beta out for users and can just take more time to work at it at your own pace while earning a bit of money from it. or at least give us a reason for such a long delay when you said it would be out shortly after rifts started shipping..
but whatever. i guess it comes when it comes. didnt mean to be overly rude but its just frustrating because we are all sitting her wondering whats really going on with VorpX.
i think a few more updates or somethng would at least help.. updating your blog even just once a month would be better then nothing.
..and even when Ralf posts a reply, you spew the same old text. Can you not just leave it now?.
I can imagine Ralf bows to pressure and releases it in it’s current state and then you cant get a game working properly because people have different OS’s, GPUs, mem etc etc…you’d be here every day again moaning about when the next update is coming.
I really wish you’d think about these things a bit more rationally. For the record, I have had a retail shop for 18 years..and money certainly isn’t money. I’d refuse to sell something to someone that had the tone you have..and I have done and will continue to do so.
Maybe you don’t read over what you write but regardless of your intention, you are simply rude.Jul 25, 2013 at 8:27pm #2065In reply to: Pay now / Alpha or Beta version?

HappyHimitsuParticipantThe only dick here is you Mr. Geddings; Truly.
I don’t think you should get any version of the VorpX software because you are acting like a self-serving asshole just because you can’t play your favorite video games on your developers kit yet.Has it occurred to you that something might be wrong with Ralph? Maybe he is very sick, perhaps he got in some trouble, or maybe, just maybe he just wants to hold out on everything because you are acting like such a prick.
Take a minute to calm down and read over your posts, twice. If you heard somebody talking like that to you, would you want to give them anything at all?
You can’t apologize one day, and be an asshole again the next and expect anybody to take you seriously.Suck it up princess because the wait could be long indeed, and there is no point in blowing your gasket and filling yourself with negativity for a product that may indeed never see the light of day…
What exactly do you think hurling insults is doing for you other than helping you release some steam? There are much more pragmatic methods to vent that don’t injure your reputation, and you are certainly not going to be receiving any help from anybody here with that arrogant attitude.
I truly hope you aren’t taking out your frustrations on people irl as well… :/
Jul 24, 2013 at 5:38pm #2048In reply to: Pay now / Alpha or Beta version?
HappyHimitsuParticipantPersonally I wouldn’t let you an inch within any of my software if you had that attitude towards me.
I am going to make the guess that you are either very young (< 17) or that you suffer from some form of autistic spectrum disorder or the like, because your attitude here is truly nothing more than childish and trite.Just because you feel like Ralph is purposely holding out on you, doesn’t mean he is; and again, you are acting foolish to be screaming for a product that by all means could hold off on a release until the consumer version of the Rift is out.
I do think the Man owes us an update though. Here’s hoping he’s ok.
Jul 24, 2013 at 9:09am #2044In reply to: vaporware?
MrGeddingsParticipanti agree with you. I honestly think hes being a dick. I mean you dont annouce some awesome cool driver that will make a library of games work with it and then come out with some awesome cool beta previews for people and then stop updating yoru website. 3 months he hasnt updated his blog. 3 months.
i dont think its vaperware judging by the fact a beta actually is out to “the select few”
its just hes locked himself up in some dark hole and hes in his little world and it will come out when he “magically” decides it will.
all i got from him in an email near the start of the month (thanks by the way for ignoring my past two messages and only emailing me back that one time)
is that it will be out “well before” the consumer version.
whatever the hell that means.
release the damn thing already. if its in beta version thats prob good enough for us!
THIS IS FOR A DEVELOPMENT KIT IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE PERFECT RATHER THEN DOING EVERYTHING BEHIND CLOSED DOORS WHY DONT YOU LET PEOPLE HELP BE PART OF THE DEVELOMMENT PROCESS BY HAVING THEM BUY THE EARLY VERSOIN AND PROVIDE FEEDBACK AND YOULL GET MONEY FROM IT TOO!
whatever. folks this is how NOT to do a oculus rift driver. dont annouce how awesomely kool it will be and provide nice beta previews and then just totally not give a (pardon me) fuck. about your “fan base”.
which honestly pretty much everyone who owns a Rift would be interested in this.
but whatever. im sure it will come out when he “magically” decides it is “ready”.
though i wonder what yard stick he is trying to mesure up to for it to be “ready”.
thats the problem with programs. they could be developed forever.. but theres a point you need to come to when you decide hey..it might be a great time to release it now.
whatever.
your a dick for posting all that cool info about it then not even bothering to update the site or have ANy timeframe whatsoever over it
but whatever. well at least you arnt going to half ass it like the guy who made the perception drivers so.
but theres a middle ground on one hand you dont want to make a product that only supports a few games and doesnt work the “best” but on the other hand you dont want to take FOREVER and leave people in the dark of your progress too.;
ugh.
oh well. its his loss too because hes just missing out on the money he could be making right now from it.
and thats the stupid part its a lose lose for both of us , him and us the longer he waits!
and he risks another company like tridef coming out with a better solution. they told me they have dev kits but arnt willing to annouce anything yet as im sure they are waiting to have things working well.
think about it. they already have a side by side 3d driver for games with it (that works with i think like 800 games) al they have to do is figure out how to do prewarping and head tracking and.
they could release a product (as they are a bigger company and not just one person) that could blow away Vorpx.
so yeah.
whatever.
and those beta previews were freaking MOTNHS ago. since then no one on youtube or any other site has posted anything else more about it
its like maybe he told them to stop talking about it
roadtoVR was supposed to post a update on the user interface and stuff too which they never did.
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH VORPX?
ARE YOU EVEN STILL WORKING ON IT? IS IT EVER COMING OUT? if you decided to say the hell with it , you sure as fuck better at least release the beta verions thats all im gonna say.
SOMEONE WITH THE BETA VERSION PLEASE LEAK IT ON PIRATEBAY OK? THANK YOU!
