I think you charred a few of those bridges to the very people who were trying.
But yeah generally there are some pretty great folks on here.

I wasn´t all serious with my remark regarding the troubleshooting section as well i wasn´t serious with my little flame-war from before, it´s just my way with words and i am aware of it probably being pretty offensive for certain people, on the other hand i am also aware that everyone behaves a little or much different once he is jacked in to the net, most people just don´t realize it.

I am not the kind of guy who cries for help on every occasion, except i am in a hurry or plain simple too lazy for finding out things myself (i once asked here because there was a game obviously making trouble on evey virtual desktop software i have and wasn´t sure the game to be the problem or my system), but i prefer doing it on my own because then i tend to learn things better than just reading a tutorial and forgetting what i just did right after i made things work while following it step by step.

At least i got myself enough infos on vorpX before buying it, rather than being one of those dorks (sorry) who rant about it not working properly when it ain´t vorpX fault but people either not being smart enough and/or doing it wrong somehow with just blaming the software on most occasions which all ends up in those negative reviews making vorpX look bad in an unfair kind of way….by the way i am always trying to preferrably read the negative reviews only, to find out about possible flaws and/or stupid people talking crap…like it happens on STEAM with way too many good games being rated down in unfair ways just like it happens occiasonly with vorpX.

(Including Ogrescar who you may remember)

    Ogrewho????? LOL jk

Typically you are better off when you let vorpX hook into games, it can do a lot more when running inside a game, even if you only want to play in 2D. Also performance is usually better that way.

I wasn´t getting that part coz i actually thought making it hook can also cause certain problems with certain games and i would be better off to avoid those with not letting it hook in the first place, since it doesn´t need to be hooked in order to play them in 2D anyway.

While you can use the vorpX desktop viewer for playing games ofc if you want, that’s not really what it was made for originally.

Some users buy vorpX and expect it to work flawlessly in full-vr mode with every game and that are those who mostly end up giving unfair negative reviews on vorpX, while they probably wouldn´t give such negative ratings when they would as well make use of and enjoy those other options besides just going in full-vr.

Anyway, i am about to leave my vorpX 2D experience for a couple of hours now and try using it for “what it was made originally” for my first time ever on vorpX.

….just hope people are fast with replying in the troubleshooting section tho…LOL.

I have wanted to play some games without 3D in VorpX just because of the great performance and ambient lighting.

Please use vorpX the way it is supposed to be used and don´t alter the experience into something less immersive! You either go highest immersion possible, or don´t go at all!!!

….LOL sorry i just couldn´t resist this, after my latest discussion went a little out of hand, hehe. Well Ralf was anyway answering you in the meantime.

It’s either hooking or the desktop viewer.

That´s why i pulled my games into the exception-list for the time i am only playing them in desktop mode where no hooking is needed, but for some weird reason some people did not understand my point as to why i would do such a thing when using vorpX with a game, at least i remember some user bringing it up questioning and i still wonder what kind of missunderstanding there could have been.

Now this is entertainment. Thank you for the rollercoaster of a read.

On a serious note. I have wanted to play some games without 3D in VorpX just because of the great performance and ambient lighting. Do you mean it’s possible to get games to show up in vr without hooking into them? (I’m not talking about VorpX desktop viewer)

Does the game require a profile and then you just disable the 3D mode? If not, how do you do it? I would love to play some games in VorpX without hooking into them.

I think ToxicMike is pretty clearly saying he is living in his own constructed world of gaming

You think? This means there is a possibility of you being wrong, except you´re one of those individuals who think they´re always right, no matter what.

Besides that, each one of us is actually living in his own world…and i am not talking about the world of gaming only, but that is nothing bad, it´s actually normal for human beings.

and doesn’t want any help at the moment learning the actual use of the software he bought.

It looks like you´re the one who haven´t really been reading what´s goin on here the last pages. Someone was rather interested in questioning as to why and how i am using vorpX than actually “helping” me (let alone i did not asked for help here to begin with), the fact that this guy told about this topic being “degraded” makes it even more obvious while it rather seems this topic started to “degrade” once he participated in it…and now you seem to have come taking his place…with that abnormally strong urge to “help” and this constant overused “fake smile”.

If you seriosly think someone just tried to help me, you could as well claim americans “just tried to help” indians having a “better” life, while we both know that there have been other reasons for being….so “helpful”….and as far as i can remember, neither me nor those indians ever asked for help.

Check back here, ToxicMike, when you are ready to use VorpX the intended way.

I am gonna ask Ralf if it is ok for him and vorpX to make personal use of it how i see fit, so when i am not allowed to use it this way and if i am violating any rules here, then i am trying to get a refund…

….until this would happen….you better leave it up to me as to when and where i am checking back here, can you follow me here or was it way too complicated?

No shortage of people ready to help you use the software, as you can see. :)

Again…did i ask for help here? Besides that….could you stop with constantly drawing smilies along with hiding your arrogance underneath this ironic tone, i am well aware of you and this other guy just trying so hard to make yourselfs look way smarter than you probably are…and that is what is probably behind your urge to “help” here, to give people the idea you´re something you´re probably not for real.

To a lot of people, this is like someone buying a hat, then putting it on their foot and wearing it like a shoe and saying they are enjoying it just fine the way it is.

You shouldn´t worry too much about what people think about you, me, or others here, it does not affect our lives in any way, but besides that, you´re talkin about “a lot” of people, which is just “relative” and just one look at threads actually shows the same bunch of people talking mostly, so that even narrows “a lot” down to probably “just a few” rather than “a lot”, but hey…that is the view you have in your own world and i am not criticizing you for that, i may as well have weird views in my own world, but unlike you or your friend, i am not making others views the topic here.

    everyone has their things.

You already repeat yourself more than once with this, yet you still go on. So i wonder why you repeat this so often? You´re either don´t believe it yourself or you´re just trying so hard to cover something up here.

    You keep on doing you.

Was this a realization? Were you questioning something? Oh sorry, i forgot! You just wanted to help me again.

But you have to expect some “wtf” looks from the head-wearing hat people on the streets trying to help you.

People with hats, no matter if placed on their heads or on their feet, are constantly getting “wtf” looks from all other people wearing no hats at all, so i can perfectly live with getting “wtf” looks from just those kind of people.

    :)

Why this forced smilie-overuse? Are you trying to hide something or is there a possibility of blinding yourself so you don´t have to realize how arrogant you actualy behave?

Then you didn’t read the whole thread.

Please stop accusing other users of not reading things here, only because you dislike them for not agreeing with you (…or your friend here), which by the way, seems to be a big issue for you guys, when others aren´t agreeing with you.

I could as well accuse you of not reading things here, for which i am putting up an example now:

Virtual Desktops, this other guy told me about virtual desktops being free and that there is no need in getting vorpX just for the same use, but fact is virtual desktop is not the same as virtual desktop, there are in fact major differences and i could explain as to what differences there are (like bigscreen beta not only having a slightly washed out look, it´s drawing more power from hardware than vorpX does, on the other hand bigscreen beta has a theater-mode view vorpX is currently missing, etc. etc.) but hey….

…you told me you´re here to help me, so i don´t think you need any help in realizing as to what differences there are in virtual desktops, besides that…you seem to know everything already.

    :)

You’re not using vorpx for anything other than a desktop viewer.

I am actually using bigscreen beta and bought vorpX because it gives me additional screen-modes being better than those in bsbeta or not even existing there. Now along with vorpX´s full-vr and that 3D feature i had no doubts to buy a great piece of software, even when i am actually not even using half of its potential at this moment.

If you´re having more questions regarding the question why i am even using vorpX or how i am using it and/or probably how i am living my life in general, just ask.

    If that’s all you want,

Yes, currently this is all i want and i am also aware of wanting it all that way.

you could have saved yourself some money and bought Virtual Desktop.

Saving money? Excuse me, but you already worry so much about why and how i am using vorpX, i really don´t want you to worry about my finances too.

Regarding Virtual Desktop, hope you´re not shocked when you read this, but i got bigscreen beta and other virtual desktops for free and bought vorpX afterwards!

I can think of at least 3 free desktop-to-hmd apps out there to do the same thing.

….yes i already got the idea that you´re probably the smartest in here who knows everything.

Whatever. This started out as an interesting topic but it’s degraded into a wtf sort of thing. You can call it an immersive screen if you want, but if it’s flat it’s not very immersive, imo.

You just said “whatever” and then you just go on, so what now? If this topic has in your opinion “degraded” and you think “whatever” then there is no further reason in replying, let alone explaining things coz….well…..whatever!

Hello Ralf and Nightmare. I take the opportunity of this post, to share my problems and tips on Dishonored as well!

    – I also have a game crash after 2 or 3 VorpX Scans each time.

    – Sometimes after a scan the camera seems to be reversed, you just have to point the right stick up to put it back.

    – During the dialog with merchant NPCs I also have a crash, the cause of this problem comes from the change of the FOV by the memory, switching it to a change of FOV by modifying the ini file solved this problem.

    – The thumbnail effect that appears (when you are crouched) has not been completely removed, it sometimes disappears on some maps and reappears on others.

I use this trick to improve the sprint in the game, it became much easier to escape from an enemy:
    https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Dishonored#Change_sprint.2Frun_from_hold_to_toggle

I volunteer to do further testing on this game with VorpX if needed ;)

(The game is running in windowed mode with the same resolution as my screen, I have a RTX 2060 on Windows 10, I don’t have Antivirus, only Defender and no software running in the background. Excuse my bad english)

to the op, you wont have graphics quality just like you have on regular screen, the purpose of Vorpx is IMMERSION.

even on my old hardware gtx 1080, 5820k and htc vive, i had a lot of fun using vorpx, obviously, some fullVR demanding games had low performance in G3D example is dishonor 1 but Vorpx motion smoothing works quiet well, so i had a blast.

now i upgraded to valve index and more recent hardware and i’m stunned by the graphics quality while using vorpx, atm i’m playing borderlands 3 and it looks real good and i’m using 1920*1440 res and ultra settings in fullVr with fov 125 (with unreal engine unlocker which i highly recommand for the UE4 supported games).

the most important thing for vorpx is how powerful your computer is, the better it is the better your vorpx experience will be.

and vorpx is light years ahead of any others 3D software including that reshade 3Ddepth, because of headtracking, directVR, full VR, G3D, Z3D, flexibility of the software, the ability to create custom users profiles for new games (when it works) in a easy way, highly tweakable settings for all modes (fullVR, cinematic mode, immersive mod).

I’m obviously biased, but still hugely puzzled about comparisons with a depth shader that does maybe 10% of what vorpX does, if at all. For one for DX9-11 (and older OpenGL) games vorpX provides “true” Geometry 3D instead of doing post process depth based 3D, which in itself is something entirely different, including the general option to have positonal tracking in every G3D game (provided that doesn’t cause too many glitches).

Even more puzzling is leaving out the whole DirectVR complex. By now there are more than 150 games for which vorpX adjusts everything automatically for a decent FullVR experience largely out of the box. Usually at least covering FOV and resolution, plus setting up the head tracking sensitivity. These games are typically plug & play except for graphics options/performance adjustments. In more than 50 games there is even more than that in the form always perfect 1:1, low latency head tracking via directly accessing a game’s memory locations for camera rotation (and sometimes position).

Not to mention the recently introduced TrackIR handling for games with TrackIR support, scalable HUDs with 3D depth, VR controller support, a gaze based visual hotkey menu and quite a bit more…

Because Microsoft is Microsoft, they’ve made the file system handling for their Microsoft Store/Xbox for PC games extremely locked down and cryptic. Local administrators don’t even have permission to READ the files and if you take ownership, the games stop working. Because of this, I had little hope of VorpX working, but decided to try anyway.

Lo and behold, it works… sometimes. I decided to test games with official local profiles, but since you can’t add processes/files to the official profiles, I had to make a copy of each profile and add the process to the copy while the game was running. (Adding files doesn’t work because you, the owner of your computer, don’t have permission to access the files on it that are installed using the Microsoft Store.)

    FALLOUT 76
Works 100%. VorpX seems to detect it correctly and both Geometry 3D and Z3D work. Process name is “Project76_GamePass.exe”.

ORI AND THE BLIND FOREST – DEF EDIT
Doesn’t work. I’ve tried the alternative hooking method and running VorpX as admin. VorpX just doesn’t detect it. Process name is “Ori And The Blind Forest Definitive Edition.exe”, but it’s a suspiciously small exe file.

    DEEP ROCK GALACTIC
Semi-works. I’m using Paradise Decay’s profile and I’ve tested it on the Steam version, where it works pretty well. VorpX detects the Xbox Game Pass version and I’m able to play it on immersive screen, but 3D doesn’t work. Geometry is not available and Z3D is no different from 2D. Process name is “FSD-WinGDK-Shipping.exe”.

I’ll test a few more games. Any requests?

In Bioshock Infinite per default the FOV is handled via an .ini edit, not with the memory scanner. Please reset the profile to default in the config app and afterwards make sure to follow the hint shown in the top left corner of the game window regarding setting the FOV slider in the game’s options to max. Without that the .ini edit DirectVR does has no effect.

Halo 4 doesn’t have an official vorpX profile. If there happens to be a user profile with supposed memory scanner functionality it’s unlikely to fully work, if at all. The scanner configuration is fairly game specific. Also scanner profiles don’t always include FOV. You can see what the scanner does and what it doesn’t in a game on the DirectVR page of the vorpX menu.

The G3D FOV Enhancement option can be found under “More 3D Settings” on the main page of the vorpX menu. Be aware though that in most newer games it causes too many visual glitches to be of much use.

BTW: A general way how to handle FullVR for games without automatic FOV adjustment is explained in the “1-2-3 Game Setup” guide in the vorpX help. The method described there isn’t always 100% perfect, but it always works. Additional information regarding FOV can be found in the “Essential Hints” guide in the help.

3d is weird, it’s like the world is flattened half a meter in front of you. Head tracking is misaligned, it overshoots the angles (if I look down 30 degrees the view is moved by more than that). For some reason, stick turning can change x-rotation (further misaligning the view with the actual eye direction), when previously it would only rotate around the y-axis, as it is supposed to.

These problems have been there for a while, but I played HL2 and Episode 1 in Garry’s Mod instead. Episode 2 just won’t run in Gmod though (can’t get out of the train because the animations for Alyx getting you out don’t load) so I’d like to play Episode 2 with Vorpx at least. But as I said it’s broken, same way as the main game when I tried months ago.

I already tried resetting the HL2/Portal profile to factory settings but that didn’t fix it.

So I had some progress today. The error I was having, “Social Club failed to initialize: Error 4” went away by unchecking the box “Try to block known game overlays”. More precisely, first I did a factory reset of Vorpx, then I checked on “Run as administrator” (cause otherwise RDR2 won’t hook) and then I checked off “Try to block known game overlays”.

I got to the regular landing screen where you can start the Story, Settings, etc. Unfortunately I’m so dumb I did not try to start the Story, I went into Settings (which worked just fine). Then I closed RDR2 and tried loading a different vorpx cloud profile, which unfortunately broke RDR2.

Now when I start RDR2 I get “social club failed to load due to an incomplete installation”, and this is not just when using Vorpx, it has broken RDR2 standalone also, probably modified the settings.xml file or something :D Luckily it was a new installation, no saved games yet.

I’m reinstalling RDR2 and see if I can get to that landing screen again, and this time I’ll run the Story mode to make sure things are working.

    More tomorrow!

There is another link on the page that Ralf pointed to, to download the oculus software. You will need to install that on your desktop. If you want to play without your link cable, you will also need to install SteamVR, because Virtual Desktop does not work with the native Oculus client. Additionally, VD has a separate streaming component which you need to install (if you want to play unplugged).

I don’t have a Quest 2, I’m just repeating what others have said, so I may not be precisely correct on everything.

Native VR games, for me, have been a sad disappointment. Holding my arms out until my shoulders ache in order to fly is not fun; ducking my head down to swim is just stupid; if I want to shoot an arrow give me a button, don’t make me use my controllers like a bow, blah blah blah.

LOL! I played this bow-shooter for about 20 minutes (where i probably shot more arrows than robin hood his entire life) and never went back to it again.

I am also not having any plans in stressing myself that way in a VR-game ever again. There are sure people who luv those bow-shooters (or VR-wave-shooters) but for me it was just plain stressful and annoying.

But the problem ain´t the bow (or bow-technique) coz those wave-shooters where you shoot with a regular gun are also way too stressful in my opinion.

While i love regular non-vr wave-shooters, i have a major problem with them in VR, since in my opinion all thise stressful shooting and dodging into all directions, takes away too much of the immersion, or in other words…i am way too focused on hitting targets while dodging bullets, that i don´t have time to feel “immersed” into the actual game, i mean there is this virtual reality and all what i do is standing there, shooting targets as if my life depends on it, i could as well shoot cans in the real world, that would be almost as “great” as playing a vr-wave shooter.

    100% with you.
One day VR will be massive, but for now, I love playing in immersive/cinema modes.
    I could never go back.

Too funny when i remember that this what i think is so great with VR (immersive 2D-screens/cinema-screens) isn´t what VR is here for in the first place, i mean….LOL…i sit there with my vr-goggles just to see a (huge) 2D-screen most of the times! On the other hand…it´s far cheaper and easier than buying a home-theatre.

On a serious note, i am still amazed about how great my games look on that virtual screen, most of all the generally better gaming-experience it causes, i would have never thought this being possible.
