Anyone tried the demo? Good cinematic gameplay, good z3d (hope im right with that), only third person,.
Full vr immersion is best, but not enough fov.
If there is a fov solution for full vr possible or a camera modify (third person gameplay), pls post it. Vorpx has no tweakings for that in the z3d menues.
But immersive and cinema mode gameplay is more then ok :)
good!
i’ll use first person mod for mass effect andromeda (same engine)
I wanted to suggest the shader tool, but realized it wont work for official supported profiles. You’d have to rename Mass Effect’s exe and add a custom profile (assuming ME2 will even launch with renamed exe).
But first, try adjusting the HUD depth setting in vorpX ingame menu. Just maybe if you make the crosshair deeper it will feel less “cross-eyed”.
Specifically, I’m playing Mass Effect 2 in G3D, and the crosshair is difficult to aim since you see 2 of them when focusing on the bad guys.
I tried turning on “domniant eye” but it didn’t really help.
next vorpx version awaited as the messiah! ahahah! (g3d for prey, mass effect andromeda etc)
I would like to play during these Christmas holidays to Prey and Mass effect andromeda (I have never played them) via Vorpx, which currently offers z-normal for Frostbite 3.
Ralf, if you give me some hope that for Christmas could come the g3d for the frostbite 3, I wait a while, otherwise i start them right away! :) thanks for your patience
this is for ralf: PLEASE, FROSTBITE 3 G3D! (prey, mass effect andromeda , mirror’s edge 2 …) :)
I just wanted to followup and say that after doing some more testing I have one of two conclusions:
1. Everything is fine and I just had the wrong perception of where the camera should be for what I was looking at. If I’m expecting an object to be right in my face, but it’s really a couple a feet away, skewing my idea of perception. FOV was really the answer to everything where I thought there were depth issues, not extra high convergence.
2. I could just be a moron.
@Ralf
My apologies again for all the trouble. It looks like you were right on everything. I think my main issue was I had the wrong perception about where my brain was expecting the camera to be.
@zahncisten
Your game examples were very helpful. I couldn’t handle a screen strength of even 2.0 on Mass Effect 3 and Metro 2033 was utterly perfect out of the box at strength 1.0. Ironically, Mass Effect 3 has a “dollhouse” effect at ANY strength, but I think that has more to do with the game itself than VorpX.
TLDR: Ralf is right on everything, sorry for me being an idiot.
thank you for your support, Ralf! :)
p.s.if there will be the ‘g3d’ for frostibite 3 (prey, mass effect andromeda etc.) by the end of the year, I will apply you for the nobel to science! haha :)
Dragon Age Origins has perfect depth (orzammar is incredible for understanding the perception. It looks awesome). I play all games in Cinema mode due to a balance condition (I’m dizzy all the time, so I need stationary things to keep steady, and cinema is perfect for that). I just finished Alien Isolation, that was incredible, and the depth was great. I’ve tooled around with Metro 2033 (not Redux) and the depth is spot-on. Skyrim is always a solid. Oh, and Mass Effect 3 (I haven’t played 1 or 2 with VorpX). The G3D is stunning. I’ve used VorpX for a few months now, and I love it. I use it every day (I’m not kidding), it really is great. If you think you are seeing things flat and you think it may be your HMD, definitely try newer hardware. I’d do that before I started thinking VorpX needed to be way different for my peculiar use-case.
I have Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect 3, and Metro 2033. I’ll test those in the next couple days when I get a chance. I’d like to ask more specifics if you don’t mind:
-What screen distance offset setting do you use?
-What aspect ratio do you use (4:3 / 16:9, etc.)?
-Any other tweaks you recommend for them, like custom FOV, etc?
-If you don’t mind sometime, pick a game you think has good depth, and temporarily decrease the screen distance value and look at something close to you. Does the depth seem lower at all?
I’ll assume you play with a screen depth of 3.0 or less for all them.
And hey, you don’t need to convince me VorpX is great software. It’s the entire basis of me wanting to upgrade my VR set. I just want to get this one aspect ironed out and I’m halfway to heaven.

Great request and good timing for me. I have spent the last few days experimenting with some third person games with VorpX and have found the 3D strength to be very weak. This lock of 5.0 is too restrictive.
The reason for these recent experiments are because of my recent play through of Hellblade Senuas Sacrifice VR. My hats off to Ninja Theory for providing the VR version free to the owners of the original version. They built in an option under experimentation called “table top” and playing with this mode is nothing short of amazing and a compelling experience. I am a huge 3D Vision user and play games 95% of the time in a way which can be described as a “toyification” or “doll house” effect. 3D Vision allows for separate convergence and depth settings which are non restrictive and makes games amazing to play in this way. How we play games is subjective. Thankfully PC gaming allows for modifications and customizing. This provides for maximum enjoyment and personal experience.
Providing unlimited or much higher 3D strength in VorpX would be a massive improvement. There are only a handful of games that are good with VorpX and it’s not a fault of VorpX since most games were never designed for VR.
Having said that, I’ve tried a few games such as The Witcher, Neverwinter Nights, Gothic III, Dragon Age Origins and a few others in VorpX and the 3D strength is just lacking. I was wondering in the last few days if there was a way to get beyond the 3D strength of 5…….anyone with ideas to get beyond the limit of 5 for 3D strength?
Nice! Even better. You could always go for Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3. All are great and on sale.
deal is a deal eh :)
already got ME trilogy and plan to revisit them with vorpx soon. I really like games with good level design like Witcher series or/and with a colorful palette like Remember Me and Sunset overdrive.

Usually I don’t really talk about what is going on development wise, but this is worth mentioning:
Some of you may have been wondering why the f*** there aren’t any recent Frostbite engine games (almost all newer EA titles) with Geometry 3D. Well, the simple and not exactly flattering reason is that for a long time I couldn’t come up with a G3D implementation for a rarely used Direct3D 11.1 feature this engine uses extensively. At least not without completely destroying performance.
Until today.
Not only does it work beautifully now, it’s also faster than I could have hoped for. Overall less than 50% G3D performance impact without rendering to a headset, so probably only a little bit more than 50% eventually.
So far only one game has been tested (Mass Effect: Andromeda), but if nothing unforeseen happens, this finally should allow G3D for most newer Frostbite games including Battlefield 4 and newer, SW: Battlefront, Dragon Age: Inquisition etc. Stay tuned.
