My list of favourites:
Dishonored
Outlast
Mirror’s Edge
Aliens: Colonial Marines
Shadow Warrior
The Darkness 2
Dear Esther *
Life is Strange *
Dead Space 3 *
Max Payne 3 *
* Unlock prosiontal tracking form advanced options
These are my favourite perfomance wise. I would add also:
Alan Wake, who doesn’t suppuort geometry 3d or positional tracking but runs so well with Z-Buffer that you won’t miss the 2.
All these games works great with 970 and Vive at 1920×1400 with medium detail setting or so.
Hi All, I just bought VorpX with the sole purpose of playing outlast in VR (which I hear works quite well) – however the game failes to launch whenever the watcher is running, nor does it work with the watcher disabled and a shortcut from the shortcut generator on the taskbar.
HTC VIVE
Comp Spec:-
Windows 10 Pro N (WinVer 1151 – OS Build 10586.420)
Asus Z170 Deluxe
Asus STRIX 980ti 6GB (Nvidia Driver 365.19)
32GB DDR4 (corsair)
500GB (SSD)
2TB (Seagate mech)
I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong here, but I’ve tried every executable in the outlast folder (win 32 and 64 binaries) and nothing seems to work, the HMD doesn’t even go dark like it’s trying to load something.
If I use the watcher and go straight to the OLGame.exe (Win32 folder) I get the error message “Windows cannot access the specified device, You may not have appropreate permissions to access the device”.
Please note: I have tried starting VorpX as administrator also (Start > All Apps > Start vorpX > as admin), the results are the same as above – permissions error.
If I pause the watcher the game launches as normal.
Can someone please let me know what I’m doing wrong, I’d dying to play this in VR!!
Thanks in advance for any help!
Mirrror’s Edge, Outlast, The Darkness 2, Aliens Colonial Marines, Dishonored, Bioshock Infinite works great with Geometry and positional tracking support (the ones i have). I would dare saying they look like native Vr on a good rig. Others like Dead Space 3 still kick ass with Geometry but have no positional tracking.
Points of view.. my games work great.
I just tried deus ex human revolution. It’s working, but took more than one hour to optimize via vorps settings, in game. And synchronisation is bugging with xbox controler, I must play directly on my keyboard.
And must notice that the quality of the textures is lower than half life 2 (2004) in VR (that is not requiering vorpx). I feel like playing a game of 2000 and not 2011…
I don’t like playing Deus Ex on the Vive so much. Which means that in my opinion that’s not one of the best VR adaptation. To see what Vorpx can do you should try other games especially Dishonored, Outlast, Bioshock Infinte, Aliens Colonial Marines, The Darkness 2… These are the ones i have offering best perfomance and easy configurations. Visually, they look great. But you will need a powerful rig to play in VR while keeping high resolution (1920×1440) and in game detail. Then it’s all about teaking and the way each games performs in VR. Some games may not be perfect but still highly playable, i would say Max Payne 3 and Duke Nukem Forever for example. Basic configuration is similar in most games but then you will see there’s always one or other little thing that can be fixed or adjusted to achieve the best experience.
Dude i tried Human Revolution: Directors Cut and it’s seems to be working quite well. It was one of the first games i tried and i couldn’t configure it properly that time. For your control problems i suggest to partially override the controller: both sticks but not the button. Then fine tune the sensibility of each sticks until it works well and do the same with head tracking sensibility. About the visual performance, i am getting very good results with gtx970. I set the resolution to 1920×1440, Fov 110, asyncronous time warp deactivated, lowered in game details. Then do the usual things like adjust the 3d strenght and image zoom. I just played a bit, i need further testing but i would say that this way it was working very well, and the game looked and sounded better than ever in this new prospective. I hope the vr gameplay will keep up but everything seems good so far!

So far the game I have thought worked really great, with a good 3D effect and acceptable framerate and usability:
Skyrim
Morrowind
STALKER games
Farcry 3
Fallout 4
Ive found that I am most comfortable in the virtual cinema, with the screen as close as possible, with headtracking enabled. It still feels like Im in VR, and I can always look down and check the HUD easily. I usually completely forget that I am in the cinema, and it works great for keyboard and mouse use. All of my experience is basically directed at this type of use. Here are some other games I have tried that Ive enjoyed, but have some minor drawbacks from my testing:
Outlast: This game works great, but I find that Geometry mode creates weird shadow issues, and on other 3D settings there are some minor graphical issues. Its not bad, and totally playable. on z3D modes, it seems like there could be a little more depth with the 3D slider.
Oblivion: Slow on G3D, Z3D modes dont seem to give quite enough depth that I would like. Game still looks great, and is very playable.
Portal 2: Something just does not look right in this game. Im not sure what it is, but it looked very very wrong when I tried it. I might try it again, but the first experience really put me off.
I may have forgotten some games that I have tried. So far I have been very impressed with VorpX!
I recently downloaded and used GZ3Doom to play Doom 2 and Heretic with the Oculus Rift and I must say the experience was next to flawless out of the box. I love what vorpx has done and is trying to do to get modern games working in VR, but I have to ask what it is that GZ3Doom has been able to accomplish that vorpx cannot. I don’t mean to be critical, and I understand that Doom is much less complex to get running than, say, GTA V. I just marvel at how such an old game looks perfect in VR without any tweaking (seriously, I don’t even know if you can tweak GZ3Doom), yet with all my fumbling in GTA V, Outlast, and Amnesia I can’t get those games to ever look right (translation: immersive).
Anyway, keep up the good work, I know we’ll get there eventually.
Had those glasses and a supported monitor for stereo 3D. It worked on every game in my steam library where there was two slightly different views of the same screen alternating. How’d they do it? I don’t think every last one of those games went back and made support for their game to work this way. Some of the same games in my library I’d wish could have 3D on vorpx (I’m a big fan of your work ralf). I preordered a vive because the tech is better and after the 20 plus games, the other 80-100 due to drop the rest of 2016, the endless co-op building of things and worlds of lovely modbox , I’d like to experience soma, and outlast etc in vr 3D.
hello, i have a problem with vorpx, all games don’t work on vorpx. i have oculus rift dk2 and vorpx last version, but when I start the game that crashes immediately and head tracking is on for one second, then turns off. but windows desktop viewer works perfectly. I have directx 11 video card nvidia geforce 850m. the game crashed with skyrim, left for Dead2 and outlast because I’ve only tried these games
I have the same issue, only that the desktop viewer also crashes. If you find out a solution, please post it here!

I fixed my issue. Instead of using the shortcut I used the exe in the main directory and unchecked (run as admin) in the properties of the exe.
Outlast looks GREAT!!! Omg! But I can’t really play long because I wear glasses and ouch, it hurts my face. 😪 I get nauseous easy to. but I screamed a few times and it was way more intense. G3D looked amazing! No issues. Has to set the IPD like 5 less than my actual IPD though. and changed the screen zoom out a bunch.
I wonder why crysis 3 wasn’t working 😒
I just bought VorpX so I could play Outlast, but when I try and start outlast it just starts on the PC, not on the DK2. I got Crysis 3 working, (It looked like crap, all zoomed in made me cross eyes on G3D. But anyway, I thought I would try Outlast. Please help! I Have the latest Oculus run-time and the newest vorpx because I just bought it.
I think I have a similar issue, does it crash at startup? I bought it some weeks ago, and I still can’t get it to work, everyday I am trying something new, If I am lucky i will get it working before February.
Hey guys I can’t seem to get Outlast working! I have the latest oculus runtime. The game only plays on PC not the DK2. Please help! And I don’t have it through steam so I know thats not my issue.

Hi guys, I’ve just recently purchased vortx so excuse me but I am a bit of a noob with it :-)
The first problem i have is I’ve tried dead space 2-3 and outlast and each game is zoomed in too much so i can hardly see anything. It’s a little better once the game starts, but in the menus I cant see hardly anything. When i look around the screen follows my field of view therefore i can’t look left and right to see the menus properly. Is their any way to fix this? I managed to set screen size to the smallest, 1024 x 768 (or something like that) which is slightly better but still…..can’t see much.
Second thing is when i start the games, it shows up on my oculus rift but not on my monitor. I have my PC hooked up to my 55″ TV so when mates come round we take it in turns with the Oculus but it sucks if nobody else can see what’s going on on the screen. Can i enable the screen as well as the oculus? Thanks
