It’s now 50% sale. If it works on VorpX well, then I’m going to buy it.

My expectation for implementation of the game is as much as Resident Evil 7 level.

natural 3D effect and full position tracking.

If it support Direct VR, It would be much better.

    How is it?

    Hi there,

Just redownloaded VorpX for my desktop using an Oculus Rift in order to play Resident Evil 7 in VR. For some reason the game refuses to hook. I’ve tried other games in my steam library and they seem to hook just fine but RE7 just boots and the headset stays on the Oculus Home. I’ve tried disabling all overlays and I’ve tried running the game via a VorpX shortcut which doesn’t do anything.

    Any suggestions?

Thank you, Ralf. Your hard work and responsiveness is very much appreciated.

Are you saying the games are fixed now, or will be fixed in the next update?

IIRC, the Dear Esther source is no longer available on steam. I tried the Landmark Edition last month and didn’t have body control. E.g. if I turn 90 degrees to the right and walked forward, I instead walk sideways to the left. In other words, my head can turn 360 degrees, but my body stays stuck in one direction.

Do you know if the GTAVR mod still works with BorpX? It may be what’s been causing y distortion and flickering shadows.

Also, any word on Resident Evil 7? The mod made by CivilWare to correct the game’s FOV no l8nger works since the latest steam update.

Last one, I’m still getting a blank window when I open VorpX configuration via the SteamVR Desktop. Virtual Desktop and Big Screen as well.

hi im new in vorpx. Its possible to download game setting of other user?

Yes. Go to the cloud profiles in your VorpX configuration app, and type in resident evil 7. There are a lot to choose from.

If I’ve posted this in the wrong section, please forgive me, and please move it to the correct forum.

Hello. I am a VR newbie and I have just picked up an Oculus Rift Bundle and have been setting it up this evening. I had been holding off on getting a VR headset as I was waiting for some lengthy triple-A games to arrive in VR. With the release of Skyrim VR for the PSVR I was thinking, “Okay, have we arrived?” So I picked up a PSVR and a copy of Skyrim VR. I played it for a bit, thought it was pretty good, or actually very good, but I was missing my mods for Skyrim.

So, I went on youtube to see if Skyrim VR would be coming to the Vive/Rift anytime soon, and if it would support mods. And what did I see but YouTube videos of people playing Skyrim through VorpX, WITH MODS, RIGHT NOW! And they were saying it was amazing and was working really well. That lit a fire under me and I purchased an Oculus Rift Bundle and a copy of VorpX.

My PC has the following specs:
    Windows 10 Pro
    Intel i7-6900k @ 3.20 GHz
    32 GB of RAM
Asus Rampage V Edition 10 motherboard
    Nvidia Titan Xp 12 Gig

I got the Rift up and running fine, and was blown away by the Touch Tutorial with the little robot. That was really, really, really amazing to me. Having played both Resident Evil 7 and Skyrim VR on the PSVR, I thought they just could not compete with what I just saw on the Rift with that Touch Tutorial.

So, I excitedly installed the VorpX software. I already had Skyrim SE installed as I think it looks better than original Skyrim, and I run a lot of mods… the Special Edition I find to be more stable with mods.

I started up my Oculus software, then I started up VorpX using the “Start vorpX” icon on my desktop (three vorpX icons were added upon install: Start vorpX, vorpX Desktop Viewer, and Configure vorpX). Once vorpX was started, I right-clicked the vorpX icon down in my system tray and went to Configure… I then went to Game Settings Optimizer in the left side panel and then went down to Skyrim SE, selected it and chose Optimize Settings and then I clicked Apply & Close.

I then launched the game (unsure of what all settings I should make from the Skyrim options panel and to the Skyrim ini files) at a resolution of 1920×1080. I DID turn off V-Sync both through the Skyrim ini’s and made sure it was off in my Nvidia control panel settings for the Skyrim executable.

Upon game start, I had trouble seeing the main screen options as they were far, far down in the bottom right corner of my view, and I just could not see them no matter how I turned my head. So I took the headset off and on my TV screen (this is my living room computer and is normally hooked up to a 4k television set through a 4k audio/video receiver) I was just able to make out the options, so I loaded a save game. Once the save was loaded, my view-point was staring straight up into the sky… So I pressed the Delete key and brought up the vorpX in-game menu, then navigated over to the Direct VR Scan and clicked it (making sure to not move any of my controls). That finished. Things were not looking too good, so I went into the vorpX menu again and changed the 3D Reconstruction from Z Adaptive to Z Normal and that looked at least a little better.

BUT, when I turned my head, the screen/head-tracking would turn in the OPPOSITE direction. So, I didn’t know what to do to correct that, so I just shut everything down and did a restart on everything… This time the screen/head-tracking was turning to match which way I was looking, BUT, the depth just didn’t feel anywhere close to as good as it did in the Rift’s Touch Tutorial. Also everything beyond like 10 feet in the game world was pretty blurry, and when I got close to characters they all had a weird ghosting or doubling of their image.

So, I’m sure it comes down to me not running things properly and having all things set up properly. What is the proper way to run Skyrim SE? What ini settings should I make? V-sync on or off? Shadows on trees, the land… on or off? Ambient Occlusion, yes or no? Ansiotropic Filtering? Antialiasing? What about settings for the Nvidia control panel? Maximum pre-rendered frames? Texture filtering? Triple buffering? Vertical sync?

What should I be changing on the vorpX in-game menu for Skyrim? Also, in the main vorpX config I see Local and Cloud Profiles… Should I be using them with Skyrim? In the Cloud Profiles tab, I see that you can sign in but when I tried with my credentials that I use for these forums the program keeps telling me log-in failed.

I’m at a loss and I’m not sure what to do or where to start. I’m fairly technical but totally new to VR, the Occulus and to vorpX. Any help that anyone can provide, well, I’d certainly appreciate it. :)

Also, the PSVR has a quick way to re-center or re-set your VR view if it gets off-kilter, do we have anything similar with vorpX or the Rift?

Can anyone explain to me what exactly VorpX is supposed to do?

I have a Vive and was researching ways to play Resident Evil 7 in VR and read about VorpX. I configured it as best as I could figure and ran Resident Evil while in VR. The screen was all messed up and none of my input controls like mouse or controllers would do anything and I had to force quit it via task manager.

I did manage to get Diablo 3 to work and it was kind of cool. Apparently, it just plays games in theatre mode like Steam does?

As far as 3D, VR itself is 3D isn’t it? Is the app design to take a 2D first person game and somehow make it 3D with head tracking?

Lastly, why does VorpX configuration pop up and mess up the display when I run an already VR gamme such as Space Pirate Trainer?

Resident Evil 7 isnt on the list of supported games. See the Support section here. Games need a preconfigured “profile” to work. Best thing to do is start with one of the games listed in the supported games list.
What VORPX does to varying degrees for different games is:
    1) will allow you to play the game in the headset
    2) will incorporate headtracking
    3) will render the game in 3D

Using these and other tools in the software (from the in game configuration (i.e. “delete” button).. you can take existing games and turn them into VR type experiences to varying degrees. There’s a pretty good list of games that have been configured perfectly and play in VR just as well as the ones you are buying for your VIVE.

@ Ralf: Nice, I always find it exciting to read about the experience of makers with their own creations.
I’m glad you mentioned Half Life 2, Alien CM and Resident Evil 7, I’ll have a look at these, in G3D hopefully. RE7 just for the fear you described. I love when horror games actually scare off people. I have to give it a go! :)

I should probably do a separate thread for this question about Half Life 2, but has anyone tried out both VR modes, the game’s native support and VorpX? Are they very similar or does one mode have a big advantage over the other?

I always find it difficult to name top favorites, be it games, movies, books, music or whatever. There’s something good to be found in so many things.

That said, what I recently enjoyed immensly was the first hour of Half-Life 2 Episode 1. Even more than the rest of the game this first hour is an almost perfect for VR mix of shooting and (easy) physics puzzles. If I was to make a VR first person shooter, it would be exactly such a mix of adrenaline driven sequences and puzzles to cool down in between. Must! be played standing with motion controllers.

Then there is of course Fallout 3, I just love the mood and atmosphere of this game which is amplified by VR ten fold. If you like other Bethesda RPGs more, they are also always a good choice, of course.

Next would be Bioshock 1, again mainly because I love the mood and atmosphere of the game. Exploring this beautiful Art-Deco underwater world is breathtaking in VR even if you already played through it on the monitor.

As number four I would name one that generally is considered a mediocre run of the mill shooter, but personally I find it surprisingly good, at least in VR: Aliens: Colonial Marines. If you like Sci-Fi themed games or Alien in particular, give it a try.

And last but not least there is one that isn’t actually officially supported for various reasons: Descent/Descent II with the fan-made OpenGL port D2X-XL. Probably my all-time favorite shooter game. Far from what one would consider perfect with vorpX, but if you are fond of 6DOF action and don’t mind the extremely outdated graphics, I can still recommend it. That’s a highly subjective assessment though, I’d almost be surprised if anyone else would agree. So be warned.

Honorary mention: Resident Evil 7. I really wanted to play this one and it’s great, but in the end actually too scary for me. I chickened out before the introduction level was over… VR horror isn’t for everyone, I guess.

You probably have your reasons for preferring the gamepad, but I would highly recommend to use the motion controllers for playing standing. Especially with a standing setup being able to move your hands freely is such a huge immersion bonus.

I’ll have to give it a try. I was inspired to try gamepad standing because several people reported immersive results with that setup in Resident Evil 7 and with that new MotherVR Alien Isolation VR mod.

I have to admit that playing standing has been a big immersion bonus so I will definitely give the motion controllers a shot. Are there enough buttons on the motion controllers for all the actions I need like VATS, pipboy, etc?

The ability to need to fully turn my body while turning ingame in New Vegas makes this feel like a native VR game. VorpX is truly the gift the keeps on giving.

I bought it and it’s just awful I wasted my money over someone who won’t help me? let’s see.
I launched steamVR and it broke completely and I had to reinstall it again. I started up vorpX and configured RE7 and Fallout 4 both did not work anymore. Fallout 4 wasn’t detected through steam and Resident evil 7 crashes.

The best games to start with are undoubtedly those with Direct VR support. After applying Direct VR these have perfect 1:1 head tracking and perfect FOV without the need for any further setup. In *some* cases Direct VR even provides basic roomscale, i.e. you can walk around a bit more freely than with the normal vorpX positional tracking.

    In no particular order:

Bioshock 1 (original version in DX9 mode)
Bioshock 2 (original version in DX9 mode)
    Bioshock Infinite
    Borderlands 2
    Borderlands Pre-Sequel
Skyrim (original DX9 version is best for VorpX)
    Fallout 3
    Fallout New Vegas
    Fallout 4
    Dishonored
    Half-Life 2 (incl. Ep. 1+2)
    The Stanley Parable
    Dear Esther (Source engine version)
    Portal
    Portal 2
    Black Mesa
    Deus Ex: Human Revolution
    Left 4 Dead 2
    Mirror’s Edge
    Aliens Colonial Marines
    Duke Nukem Forever
    Quake III
    Star Trek Voyager Elite Force
    Return to Castle Wolfenstein [2001]

My latest personal recommendation would be Half-Life 2 Episode 1, which I just recently played for two hours. Something I don’t do nearly as often as I’d like to these days. Call me heavily biased, I am for sure, but that was more fun than 99% of made for VR games. I actually ended up doing that after buying and trying a bunch of highly praised made for VR titles the same evening.

In case someone never played HL2 Episode 1: right at the start you enter an alien fortress, which not only still looks great after all these years, it’s also a perfect-for-VR mix of shooting sequences and (easy) physics puzzles. Most importantly: all that in a highly intense atmosphere that almost inescapably sucks you into the game. Creating such an intense atmosphere is the hard part of making good single player shooters and it really makes all the difference in VR. Hard to top if you ask me.

Similar things could be said about Bioshock, Black Mesa (Half-Life 1 remake), the Fallout games, Skyrim or – insider tip – Aliens: Colonial Marines, which may just be a mediocre shooter on the monitor, but is actually great with vorpX.

Important side note: whenever possible play standing with Touch controllers or Vive wands!

One last thing: not a Direct VR game, but also extremely intense (and visually great) is Resident Evil 7. I chickened out before the introduction mission was over. Good luck with that one.
