    Hello!

Perhaps you will like my profile. I prefer geometry 3D immersive screen with a focus on life-size immersion, and avoiding motion sickness via a stable view while walking.

Search for the profile with my name at the end, duke54, and give it a try!

Below is the instructions for the profile ‘Farming Simulator 2022[duke54]’

    Manually change these in-game settings:
    Resolution Ratio: 16:9
    Fov: 75
    V-sync: Off
    Head/Eye Tracking: On
    Camera bobbing: Off
Advanced Graphic Settings-> Resolution Scaling 3D: 200% (or whatever your PC can handle)

Recommended Vorpx options for this profile

    Main Settings
    3D-Strength/Scale: 115 to 215
Lower scale makes objects feel larger with less 3D effect while higher scale makes objects feel smaller with greater 3D effect. Higher numbers increase eye strain.

    Focal offset: -0.15 to -0.05
Negative FO moves 3D objects further away and objects feel larger. As numbers move away from zero it increases eyestrain. Never use a positive FO which doesn’t occur in real life and creates painful cross-eyed view.

Head Tracking Settings -> Track IR Disable mouse tracking:
Yes(Head tracking in vehicle only, provides more stable view while walking)
    No(head tracking always on)
Make sure ‘Head/Eye Tracking’ is set to ‘on’ in the game settings for this to work.

Suggested life-size settings for this profile (default)
    3D-Strength/Scale: 130
    Focal offset: -0.10

Suggested stronger 3D settings for this profile
    3D-Strength/Scale: 215
    Focal offset: -0.05

    Enjoy!

Please update your Defender definitions (by forcing an update in the Windows settings app). There was a false positive detection with Defender on Saturday, but MS fixed it quickly on Sunday after I reported the issue. The detection has been removed manually by their staff.

To avoid such issues entirely in the future exclude the vorpX program folder from your AV scanner as suggested in my first reply to your post.

    Hi,
I’ve played a bit with the beta and the gesture system is great, please add some more gestures, would be great to replace all the remaining keyboard commands for some games ;)
I’ve an annoying behavior, each time I start vorpX, all my desktop icons are messed up, could it be due to the void virtual display vorpX added ?
    Thanks

Hi, I asked about this about a year and a half ago or so and I believe Ralf mentioned it may be possible. I was wondering if it might still be on the table? I’ve been playing some FPS games again (namely FO76) and one of the most frustrating things has been using a gamepad with the current options for accessing the menu/edgepeek. Since you use the thumbsticks for sprinting and crouching in FO76 (which is also common in other fps titles) it means the start/back buttons are the only real option for the gamepad. Unfortunately, in the case of FO76, the start/back buttons already have combination functions, meaning you have to hold the button to get one menu while just pressing it gives a different menu. You can imagine how this affects Vorpx. It actually makes it impossible to access a certain menu in the game while Vorpx is set to it.

If we had the ability to use a combination of buttons (like L1 + R1, or something like that) it would alleviate this issue while being a huge QoL improvement in general! No more accidentally bringing up the menu/edgepeek when we try to do something in game (because, let me tell you, try as I might to avoid doing that, it happens all the time)! Any chance an option like this could be put in down the road?

    Thanks for any consideration!

    Hi,

Is it related to the graphics quality ? I mean have you ever tried to go low resolution low graphics just to check if you experiment this issue also ?

You can also check the VRAM available on your graphic card, with GPU-Z for instance.
Remember that in VR, you need to compute every picture 2 times, one from each eye point of view. On my RTX 3080 with 10GB, I use to reach 80 to 90% of the VRAM available, and I cannot sustain full quality everywhere. The GPU temperature also may affect the performances, as if it high, it will tend to reduce the usage to avoid damages (thermal throttle).

It’s been months since I messed with the demo, but these are the notes from the profile I included at the time. Might need to turn off DLSS and Shadow quality to avoid weirdness in G3D.

    System Shock Demo (2023)
    Experimental G3D/Z3D
    -use a 16:9 resolution (2560×1440)
-set FOV to max 120 in game
    -turn off DLSS
    -set Post Processing to Medium

*shadows cause occasional flicker. If you want to disable, open Engine.ini found in:
    C:\Users\*NAME*\AppData\Local\SystemReShock\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor …
add lines at bottom and save:

    [SystemSettings]
    r.ShadowQuality=0

And yes, this was uploaded with vorpX beta, so it might not show in the cloud for non beta users, sorry.

Begging is not stealing, but of course begging is kind of manipulation in that way, that you are trying to be very nice and humble to get something what you want.

I will start an other game as The last of us this weekend, I actually wanted to avoid that. Postponing is standard in the gaming sector these days. I can understand the developers why they do it again and again, but i don’t have to like that. Postponing kills hypes and anticipation, and that is not easy for the customer gamer like myself.

Hello I’m a total Vorpx noob who purchased the program just a couple days ago. For my first game I want to play Fallout 3 GOTY (which I last played way back in 2009 on PS3) with a bunch of mods (through Vortex) that hopefully will make the experience better in VR.

I finally got the game running pretty well on my new 4080 PC (Quest 2 through Virtual Desktop) in 90hz which seems to get rid of most of the weird warp stutter I experienced on 120hz. Playing in Full VR G3D on Phenomenal graphic setting.

Now I’m looking for advice on the best mods for playing the game in VR, and perhaps also advice on what mods to avoid in case they should be game-breaking in Vorpx. That’s where you experienced Vorpx Vault Hunters hopefully enter the equation!

I’ve been looking at Nexus collections like “Rebirth+” and “Vanilla But Kinda Better” and just taking whatever mods I feel like from there. I think I’ll avoid TTW for now. Nexus collections are here:

    https://next.nexusmods.com/fallout3/collections

Mods I’ve installed so far: FOSE, Command Extender, ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated, Updated Unofficial F3 Patch, F3 Tic Fix… just basic stuff to get it running. I tried RH Iron Sights but didn’t like how gigantic the weapons became while aiming and the annoying swaying.

I would greatly appreciate any help! Thank you.

The virtual display is indeed meant to be used as only screen to avoid the multi-display annoyances you ran into. It gets enabled (and disables your actual monitor) when you launch the vorpX desktop viewer and put on your headset.

If you want to use the virtual display, using the desktop viewer as a launchpad for everything else is the easiest (and intended) way.

    @ Fearganainm

That would be nice. I’m especially interested in log files with the admin crash since I don’t get that here.

    @ MrSchneeps

Ideally things should be back to normal on first boot already, if that fails on second. Glad at least that worked for you.

    @ Tambora:

Does the AFR3D method (DirectVR in the menu) not work anymore? That should actually be better than the prior G3D since it works with all shadows.

    @ petey:

Windows loves to shuffle around desktop icons when resolution or the display config changes. The virtual display manager already tries to deal with that by creating/restoring icon layout backups, but how Windows decides to place icons in case of config changes is so intransparent and weird that I can’t rule out occasional glitches like that entirely.

    @ Heon_X:

I got the dual monitor primary/secondary glitch here myself once during multi-monitor testing, but not really replicable. Shouldn’t happen unless things go totally wrong and vorpX can’t restore the display config backup it created. Fairly weird issue. Multi monitor setups are too rare to consider that a show stopper for the whole virtual display, but I’ll try to figure that one out on some rainy Sunday.

I do not get the admin crash here. You shouldn‘t do that anyway unless you are running older games that require admin rights themselves, hooking into games/apps that require admin rights themselves is the only reason you would ever want to run vorpX as admin.

Hooking: if you have trouble hooking practically all DX11 games, there almost certainly is something running on your machine that also hooks into games and causes a conflict. A lot of tools/utilities hook into games.

If you didn’t do that already, please first try to install a hook helper. The option to do that pops up in the ‘Attaching To…’ dialog after a while in case hooking fails. Can often help without having to get to the bottom of hooking conflicts. If you already did that and it didn’t help or you don’t even see the ‘Attaching To…’ dialog: remove everything you may have running in the background. Everything.

Same for your 20% GPU utilization issue. You should ideally avoid maxing out the GPU since the game, vorpX and finally the headset runtime all need some GPU time, which becomes increasingly difficult when the GPU utilization nears 100%. Things falling apart at 20% on the other hand is just plain wrong. BTW: If you happen to use the Windows task manger to monitor GPU usage, try nVidia Inspector (precise, but doesn’t hook games) to cross check. Task manager used to display imagined values in the past occasionally.

In general: I can’t really provide specific help based on vague forum posts: if you encounter severe problems, create a trouble shoot archive in the config app after running a few problematic games and send it to support at vorpx com. Can‘t promise that’ll clear up every potential issue, but at least that way I have some hard facts I can look at. Without some insight there just is no way at all to tell what might be wrong.

You can also exclude the vorpX program folder in Defender, not just in third party AV apps. Defender hasn’t caused issues in a while, and doesn’t for me, but who knows.

Excluding the vorpX program folder from any AV app is a good idea anyway to avoid potential issues. AV programs in general don’t really like programs that hook into other programs, which vorpX obviously has to do to work. You can do that in the Defender settings and the folder you want to exclude is usually ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Animation Labs\vorpX’ unless you installed vorpX elsewhere.

Let me see if I understood the concept of Virtual Monitor correctly:
    1. Launch desktop viewer
    2. Put on your headset –> Virtual monitor kicks in, now Windows runs on a new monitor with the same refresh rate of your headset (which is good to avoid conflicts when your physical monitor has a different refresh rate) and a resolution set by the user (to be able to match it in game without messing around with custom resloutions)
    3. Run a game –> vorpX hooks into the game normally (for supported games) like without virtual monitor, with the added bonus of being able to set the resolution in game to whatever you set as your resolution in Windows monitor settings. Plus having the game run on a monitor that has the same refresh rate as your headset greatly improves syncing issues and micro-stutters.

Is this correct? Cause so far I’ve been able to to make the virtual monitor work, but vorpX doesn’t hook and the game doesn’t even start (I tested Rocket League which is definitely supported and working on 21.3.3). If I pause the watcher the game just runs on Steam Theater mode and not in Desktop Viewer (my monitor reactivates and I see the game there too).
So I either understood wrong the utility of Virtual Monitor or I need to find a fix for the inability to hook…

Keep in mind that 2448×2448 compared to 1920×1080 means 3x the number of pixels. (~6 megapixels to ~2 megapixels), which not only raises the GPU workload, but also the required GPU memory significantly. Try to find a balance that works for your system.

On a sidenote: exactly square resolutions are a bad idea, IIRC vorpX displays a warning in such a case. Messes with some 3D heuristics (e.g. shadow detection), which may also affect performance. Never dial in an exact square resolution, always use something that is at least 5% wider or narrower. To keep things simple use a 4:3 res, which also avoids issues with games that only want common aspect rations.

If you happen to use the beta, use the virtual monitor. It’s main purpose is to make sure you never have to dick around with custom resolutions yourself anymore.
