I’ve had Vorpx for a few years and would love to be able to play a full game with it. A handful of times I’ve tried various games in full VR mode (Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3, KCD, Vampyr, Oblivion), it’s pretty cool to be able to be in those worlds in VR. However, I can’t ever seem to last more than a few minutes before I get extremely queasy. I have a 3080ti and the performance appears acceptable.
I have fairly solid VR legs and I play SkyrimVR/fo4VR and other VR games regularly. Are these games not meant to be played in full VR and more in theatre mode? I get sick even if I am not moving very much in the scene. Any suggestions welcome.
Making your own vorpX profile is usually the better option and fairly easy if you know what engine a game uses, which is Unreal Engine 4 in case of Stray. Caveat: Some UE4 games are DX12 only these days. If there is no 3D with one of the many DX11 UE4 profiles try the Grounded profile as a base.
I second this. Whenever possible it’s best to go the vorpX route – it’s simply faster than the other solutions. For example Witcher 3 (first person mod) pushed to 8K-X at 4K and every slider at max quality give a liquid smooth 60fps and can often maintain 75fps in vorpX Z3D. Virtual Desktop + SuperDepthVR can also be used, but even getting a solid 60fps requires quality concessions and a slightly lower resolution. So there is a substantial performance difference in many titles between vorpX and the alternatives.
That said, I’ve been using SuperDepth3D (and now VR) almost since the initial release and they are a good alternative when vorpX doesn’t yet support a title. I hope Ralf, that you understand that we like to sometimes discuss alternatives for when vorpX doesn’t support a title yet? If you prefer not, then let us know and I expect most of us here will abide by your decision.
@TheLastStarfighter Z3D in-general has come a LONG way over the past five years or so. I also used to be absolutely unable to tolerate it in any title and could only use G3D. But vorpX and other solutions now offer some pretty good Z3D, sometimes extremely good. It is very game-engine dependent though. Definitely give it a try, and be willing to work a while with the settings. Title that come to mind off the top of my head that look fantastic in vorpX Z3D are Greedfall, Dragon Age Inquisition (and thus probably Mass Effect Andromeda, although I have not tried it yet), and The Witcher 3 with the first-person mod. Those titles are all excellent. (Witcher 3 could use a little more depth, but it’s OK, the other two have fantastic depth with surprisingly few Z3D artifacts.)
The good news: This mod seems to work pretty darn well so far for me. The mod has a built-in FOV control so you can adjust that as you wish, and overall things seem excellent in my testing.
The bad news: The camera sway is a bit much to take and the only Witcher 3 mod I’ve found so far that claims to remove it does not work for me.
The vorpX G3D profile, unfortunately, has the all-too-common issues with shadows etc. So you’ll have to disable those if you want to use G3D (and the game looks *awful* without the shadows). You’ll probably want to use Z3D (more acceptable since it’s 1st person now). Too bad the G3D profile isn’t 100% though, because it otherwise looks great and even in G3D it’s now old enough to push very high resolutions and lots of eye-candy.
could we get alternate eye rendering for witcher 3?there is a new first person mod that works extremely well but normal g3d is toooooo taxing to be sharp enough.
GD3 works with standard Witcher 3 profile! Not seeing artifacts so far (haven’t played much) except the shadow in Geralds hair, but we wont see that in first person :) But things like Fov, resolution and such are not automatically done in this profile. I always struggle to get those things right.
Wow, hope that works! I clearly remember it not working when I tried it last, but admittedly that’s been a while.

I hope this thing really works properly. I always wanted to play Witcher 3 in first person so I could see the world properly instead of just mostly staring at Geralt’s posterior. Will do a completely clean install and see where it goes from there!
Now all we need is a G3D profile (although, Z3D is much less disturbing to me in 1st person rather than 3rd person as at least you don’t have to continually look at Z3D artifacts around ‘you.’)
For real in the sense that the whole game becomes playable, the fighting
as well. And no more disapearing objects when coming close?
At least that is what I understand from this clip.
Since I can’t edit my thread anymore: The error messages goes like this: OpenXR session init failed. This is a severe Error. Make sure that OpenXR is working on your PC correctly or switch to a different API.
Well, it’s only doing this with Witcher 3. If I start another Steam game with vorpx (for example Skyrim) it just works without any problems. Witcher 3, on the other hand, I can only run with SteamVR (which is a mess when it comes to performance).
Hello, so I’ve noticed that my performance is significantly better when I use openXR over SteamVR (my HMD = HP Reverb G2). And I mean by a lot (smooth as butter experience + 60-90 fps with OpenXR VS stutter + fps drops below 10 + ~30 fps with SteamVR). Unfortunately Witcher 3 won’t start if I use OpenXR (an error message pops up which askes me to change the mode). However, as described the performance with SteamVR is, at best, okay-ish but far from good enough or what I am used with OpenXR. I am wondering why that is.
Will I be able to play Witcher 3 with OpenXR if I buy the game on GoG?
When I launch Witcher 3 controllers are not recognized. Game starts in Vorpx, I see it in HMD, however controllers are not shown and no keys are recognized.
Using Quest2 with Link. Everything worked a couple of month ago, today it updated to new version when I started Vorpx.
Did anything change, is there something I should do?
