In reply to: Halo game controller setup
moarveerParticipantMy recommendation is to grab a STEAM controller and map it to keyboard ans mouse controls, it’s very easy to setup and you won’t get any conflict with Vorpx gamepad layout and works like a charm. Is also great for mmorpgs and complex games with tons of keys, my current steam controller template for vorpx has nearly 30 keys that can be mapped to any keyboard controls, you can even setup key combinations like alt+L for directVR scan easily.

OgrescarParticipantI just tried this on a new game with full override on the controller. It took four scans and 2 restarts before it actually put the controller into native mode, regardless of whether the scan succeeded (Icons/Prompts didn’t change and opening the console I could see keystrokes still being sent). And the rotation is not working.
If I disable the override in vorpx, it still requires the scans. It shouldnt take a bunch of scans and restarts to make it actually work. It should just put you into native mode and bypass directvr altogether.

OgrescarParticipantThe only real implementation issue that I see is that disabling the gamepad override does actually disable it, which is what brought me here in the first place. If I run a DirectVR scan and then disable the gamepad override everything works okay (minus head tracking rotation), but requiring the scan first is counter-intuitive. Not performing the scan leads to a situation in which it apparently switches on/off the override based on directvr data, which may not exist.
As far as head-tracking rotation, it’s great when it works, but I’ve seen it invert numerous times and switching the invert on/off in vorpx doesn’t appear to do anything. On one occasion it rotated the camera (or the world) 90 degrees. So, I disabled the override and found that it only made things worse.
If it was vorpx sending the keystrokes, then it was doing so regardless of whether the override was disabled or not.

RalfKeymastervorpX sends keystrokes while the controller override is enabled. That’s the point of the override. Since many games can’t handle simultaneous mouse/gamepad input, vorpX comes with a well featured gamepad to mouse/kb emulator to deal with such games. However, as mentioned above, after running the DirectVR scan vorpX no longer needs to emulate a mouse for head tracking and thus the game’s inability to handle simultaneous mouse/gamepad input is not an issue anymore. Hence the gamepad override gets disabled after the DirectVR scan and the gamepad works natively. the same is true for a lot of other games, including Bioshock.
Can’t really explain it any other way, hope it was understandable this way.

OgrescarParticipantWell, at this point I feel like a total idiot. My initial assessment was correct – it was the Oculus Client messing things up, not Vorpx. I realized this after the problem occurred again last night and I tried to repair it with the game console, which failed miserably because it was already gamepad-enabled.
For some reason the Oculus client was hiding the controller and sending keystrokes and mouse inputs (sounds a bit far-fetched on the keystrokes, but I opened up the console, moved the left stick around, and saw it fill up with WASD’s). I checked some other games (Bioshock Infinite for example) and they also had the same problem, while other’s didn’t (Borderlands 3 and Witcher 3). Even some native VR apps had this problem, whereas Virtual Desktop was unscathed.
Anyway, I had to re-install the Oculus software 3 times and re-pair the controller a gazillion times before it took, so I’ll be getting a new hmd soon. If you’ve got any recommendations for anything that doesn’t have Oculus or Facebook written on it…
So…I was really having fun in Skyrim – I’d lost interest in the game before Vorpx, but now I’m back at it again. Vorpx was what I got my headset for, I just didn’t realize it at the time, so thank you very much (I found that with few exceptions that native VR games are {expletive deleted}, IMO).

mr_spongeworthyParticipantUsing a Pimax 5K+ here too. You might use the vorpX configuration app to reset the RD2 vorpX profile to default settings as a start, and possibly reset RD2 game settings as well (you can do this manually or restore them through the vorpX app) after telling vorpX NOT to change game settings for RD2 in the future.
From what I’ve found, since I play many games in cinema mode as well, is that most of the changes vorpX makes for VR games are not necessary for games you play in cinema mode, and depending on the results you may have to defeat or override a variety of settings, both vorpX and in-game tweaks like FOV that vorpX may have set.
For example if you know for sure you won’t be using VR mode then you can disable the Xbox controller overrides completely and vorpX will not do anything with the controller; it should just pass the controller along to the game basically as if you weren’t in vorpX at all.
I’ve also found it VERY useful to have the little keypad you can buy for the Xbox controller: That way you can set a bunch of vorpX hot-key functions to the keys you prefer and use that instead of having to find your actual keyboard. For example I turn off the function in vorpX that brings up the vorpX menu on the Xbox controller, and just use a keystroke for that, but I can reach the tiny little Xbox keyboard without ever taking my hands off the controller.
Hope that helps (a little).

SmoilsParticipantYe, I would recommend rebinding game keys to something you can find while blind, on the edge of keyboard and using additional mouse keys.
All the solutions to press keyboard while in vr require you to have hmd camera or webcam pointing to keyboard along with any free or paid vr overlay apps. Its a hassle to set up and you would eventually decide to use it blind rather than setting it all up each playthrough.
Setup is straightforward, just a hassle with all the steps:
1. find free vr overlay on github
2. run steamvr, run overlay,
3. point webcam to keyboard and output webcam feed to a window
4. attach overlay window to playspace or hmd, doneIf you are on quest 2 (like everyone these days), there were some kind of advertised features to peek your keyboard or maybe a button to see hmd camera feeds that you can use to peek, but I dont have one to say more precise, since you are streaming PC game you can basically use same steps but most of overlays are meant for steamv, maybe there are some for oculus.

senoctarParticipantI’m not sure how you intend to use a keyboard in VR for games.
Is it just a keypress now and then or is it central to the gameplay? If used rarely you could try a SteamVR overlay like OVR Toolkit. If you’re on WMR you might be able to use the built-in overlay. Note this would require using the controllers to point at keys.
You might also try to learn touch typing so you can find the keys without looking. If it’s central to gameplay there isn’t a good option. There are some overlays that can use a camera to display the real keyboard and hands in VR but they don’t seem to get the best of reviews. Maybe use a keyboard with raised gaming keys or a mouse with 9-12 extra buttons.
Personally I use a mouse with 8 function buttons and the typical keys around WASD that I can press without looking.

RalfKeymasterUsing the left CTRL+ALT+SHIFT keys should do the trick.
The image on your monitor is perfectly fine though. GTAV and RDR2 now use a new 3D-method where the two eyes are rendered at alternating frames, which looks a bit weird on the monitor, but gets processed to look right in the headset. You can switch to a different 3D method in the vorpX menu to change that, but unless you have an actual issue with the alternate frame 3D (some find it uncomfortable), I’d suggest to leave it that way.
Cpntroller input should work perfectly fine normally. May be some input focus issue. Try to click into the game window once to ensure it’s running in the foreground. If you have mods installed, please also try without, one of them might interfere.

JariloParticipantAh thanks you all, that makes sense, I was like what the heck, am I going crazy and is my keyboard trolling me?. I’ve mapped out my ALT keys in VorpX to other things previously to begin with.
Jun 19, 2021 at 1:35am #204790In reply to: vorpX 21.2.3 Available Now
RalfKeymasterPlease be aware that this ALT-blocking feature exists for a reason since some vorpX hotkeys also use the ALT key, I didn’t just put this option in because I felt like it. :) In some games disabling the lock can – and will – cause issues. E.g. in GTAV disabling it will cause seemingly mysterious video clip recordings since ALT is the game’s recording hotkey.
Better either rebind any game action that uses ALT or alternatively the vorpX hotkeys you regularly use that involve pressing ALT.

dellrifter22Participant4:3 @ 2304×1728 is a good balance of G3D clarity and performance in most games with my HPG1. You can also lower your image zoom down a bit to increase the pixel density. I can go a little below .90 before the screen edge becomes noticeable.
Just curious… besides the obvious performance advantage, is there a reason it must be alternate frame rendering? Is normal G3D SBS not possible in a similar fashion?
@ Jarilo I did notice that the vorpX overide keys are now working again, so I had to go to the input page of delete menu and set Alt key override to NO, and now I can use they Alt key as normal.
Jun 15, 2021 at 12:31am #204636Topic: So why is snapturn not possible?
in forum Technical Support
artriedesParticipantI have seen the previous threads on this topic and aware that snapturning is not considered to be possible to implement in Vorpx. I am just curious about WHY. I hope Ralf could provide a brief explanation.
I mean Vorpx can already simulate horizontal and vertical mouse movement with head tracking. From there it seems to be quite simple to simulate a rapid horizontal mouse movement left or right, with your joystick or arrow keys.
If it is at all possible, and it seems quite possible given what Vorpx can already do with mouse movement simulation, I think it would be a HUGE step forward for Vorpx considering how many people new to VR get nausea from rotating in VR. I know they can get over it by rotating in real life, but not everyone likes to game while standing.

thomas3dParticipantHello elite 3D VR fans!
Last night my jaw dropped when I read “Elite Dangerous: Odyssey”
In real 3D geometric
ripped off …They have integrated full 3D support … dh you can only play in 2D in VR … but if you switch to the side by side format in 3D you get real 3D !!! … wow … I was real flashed that it is so easy without a detour via “VorpX” …
As with DCS, you can even adjust the stereo 3D depth to your taste …
To do this, you have to set the experimental 3D mode slider approx. To the middle … then you get a very good 3D depth graduation …I immediately tested this with my 65 inch 3D capable TV … looks fantastic … !!
Today I test with my 3D capable 4K projector and 3m screen …: cool:It is also possible to immerse yourself in VR … with Virtual Desktop … there you can then use F6 and F7 to admire the side-by-side format of “Odyssey” in real 3D VR …: rolleyes:: D
runs super smooth with 1440p and Quest 2 …
Little tip … bought it at CDKeys for 22.50 euros and activated it on Steam … they wanted 35 …: whistle:: D

kieselParticipantI have Cyberpunk 2077 running here with CyberEngineTweaks and various mods without problems.
But vorpX doesn’t show the mod windows in the headset, only on the desktop. For mods with hotkeys this is okay, but if I want to display data or interact (for example with Immersive Roleplay or Sell Stolen Car Mod), then I have to put the headset down. Is there perhaps a solution for this?
