Meaning non vr activated games played in 2d on the vorpx theater. Can using vorpx those 2d games be out into 3d sbs ?
You’re not looking for a stereoscopic player then, vorpX isn’t gonna work out of the box with just any software.
The best workaround would be to make a SBS video with your 2 video sources in the first place, easily done with FFMPEG. Here you can see the commands to make a fake 3D SBS video from only 1 source, just use the last command to create it using your two sources.
Not shure if i can be a help here.
MPC-HC and VLC, both players show SBS Video and Image material in Stereoscopic 3D with VorpX in any Headset that VorpX supports. Another Free player that you can try is Whirligig (doesnt require vorpx).
IIRC i tried the austrian player before with vorpx but without success.(Didnt try any futher because it kept loosing settings which was very annoiing)
Some other software that i reported abou earlier:

Sorry it’s not much help, but I launched mine for a quick test and it seems to work as normal. I’m on Nvidia using WMR with SteamVR.
I don’t know if AMD has a conflict, but maybe turn off the AMD specific setting that exists in the game options. Also, try running vorpX in steamVR mode if by chance you are using a Rift.
Sounds like you are hooking in, you just have some conflict with game settings. Try using your monitors native resolution to begin with.
Leave Resolution scaling at 100%. It shouldn’t matter in this case of SBS, but worth checking.
I noticed stretching issues if you have Exclusive Frullscreen enabled. Turning that off can fix stretching.
BTW, Not sure my profile is usable anymore. It was made before the official one released. Unless it just imports my settings, it may have some exe conflict with the official one.
Does anyone knows of a way to get good results? Most of what i’ve seen is pretty crappy and most “converters” suck, as in they just make one eye be a frame ahead to “fake” the 3D. Mostly out of curiosity as i do have a method of getting somewhat better results using ffmpeg only. By cutting from the sides of the video on each eye to fake the 3D, it works great in some videos but not all.
Figured i lose nothing by asking.
The method i use, uses the following commands:
ffmpeg -i in.mp4 -filter:v "crop=out_w:out_h:x:y" out.mp4 #example code
ffmpeg -i in.mp4 -filter:v "crop=iw-~40:ih:0:ih" right_eye.mp4
ffmpeg -i in.mp4 -filter:v "crop=iw-~40:ih:~40:ih" left_eye.mp4
ffmpeg -i inputleft.avi -vf "movie=inputright.avi [in1]; [in]pad=iw*2:ih:iw:0[in0]; [in0][in1] overlay=0:0 [out]" sbs.mp4 #merger code
Anyone been using it recently?
I just tried to play this now, freshly installed, and Im getting double vision, a bit like looking at SBS on my desktop.
Ive tried restarting, resetting profile (not sure why since I hadnt altered anything), attemption to change the resolution – which very hard to see at all because it has some very low res set and is tiny being double vision!

If Dolphin has SBS output, you might be able to get it working with one of the vorpX profiles that handle native SBS, depending on the API Dolphin uses that would be for example:/del>
Shadow of the Tomb Raider (DX11), SBS used per default.
MPC-HC (DX9), SBS has to be enabled in the vorpX menu
VLC (OpenGL), SBS has to be enabled in the vorpX menu
I uploaded a profile to the cloud that utilizes Dolphin’s SBS output. Should work with D3D11 and OpenGL output. I’ll add automated settings with the next vorpX, for now please select D3D11 and stereo SBS in Dolphin’s graphics options.
What i did was, to play with Vorpx Desktop Viewer and Pause Watcher, to play Madworld in 3D Sbs, because with Dolphin VR it didnt work.
So in Dolphin Flat Version you can enable 3D in SBS and play the Games via Vorpx in Cinema Mode.
Also you can enable in Dolphin Settings the Free Camera so “set” the FOV or just move the Camera Far away to get an really nice view.
This method also works with Virtual Desktop.
I think its all in Z3D in Dolphin Flat Version, but its a good 3D Effect.
And you can play “unsopprted” Dolphin VR Games with that.
There is a ‘Generic 3D Display’ device since vorpX 20.1.0 that outputs a side by side image to ease your life in that regard. The next build will address a few remaining issues, most importantly OpenGL not working yet. Be aware though that the ‘Generic 3D Display’ mode is not officially supported. vorpX is built for VR, consider SBS an unsupported freebie.
@RJK_
Ok I understand
Most 3D Vision monitors only support Frame packing but LG or Samsung 3DTV would have no problem displaying Vorp X SBS image in 3D.
@chtiblue thanks for the link, looks like i am a bit behind in time ;-)
@zig11727 I meant it the other way around, not displaying a game through 3d-vision on a Tv, i meant displaying vorpx SBS on a 3D-Vision monitor with inbuilt emitter. I dont think EDID cant do that, does it ?
Hi RJK,
In answer to your earlier questions around 3D TVs:
Any TV that supports 3D should work but I find the passive 3D TVs the best in my experience. They seem to be mainly made by LG, and to be honest you may not find a new 3D TV. The last time LG supported 3D was from their 2017 models I believe. Passive 3D means you can just use the 3D glasses similar to the ones found in cinemas (polarised 3D).
My TV for example is this one – https://www.lg.com/au/tvs/lg-65UB950T
Other manufacturers like Sony or Samsung used Active 3D, which meant you had to use special 3D glasses that were powered by a small battery.
HDMI usually works fine and that is what I’m using for my PC.
Most games are in widescreen these days. I haven’t seen any black borders on all of the games I’ve played. Half SBS normally means there is no change in the ratio. In Vorpx’s case if you are using a G3D supported profile it renders the image twice (requiring more CPU power of course).
Normal distance is fine. I usually sit about 2.5 metres away from the TV. Darker rooms benefit when viewing 3D.
Thanks for this very nice bonus feature Ralf (and Grocs!), it’s very useful for people like me who get sick very quickly when playing FPS in VR.
I’m doing some SBS videos using it; I hope it’ll get you more gamers interested in VorpX & buying it! ^^
Ok, i read about active and passive Tvs. Still i dont know how these Tvs handle the SBS image. They say passive is only half vertical resoution. Not shure if that would be much satisfying.
I really would like to test that. But before i start up i want to make shure that i do buy the right TV.
@Grocs
Can you give us some advice on the following: ?
– What exactly type of TV do i need
– How do i connect it (HDMI/DVI?)
– On your video i see an SBS image, how does that look like through
your glasses, is that similar to 3d Vision ? , its a bit confusing to me
because 3D Vision is not SBS, can you explain the technique abit ?
– What if i want to play a game in a widescreen mode, will i have black
borders on that SBS image (or see them through the glasses) ?
– Will i need to sit in a certain distance away from the TV ?
Ive seen SBS test movies on a normal monitor but i dont have any idea how an SBS image can be seen as a 3D image if not be crossing the eyes.
