Hi Mike,
I don’t have a specific date yet, but you can expect the next update within the next month.
Man, it’s been so long since the last update. I really want to get my source games working, and hopefully get even more geometry supported games, (and maybe even a way to disable vertical mouse movement, something that can completely ruin my experience), but mainly I just want to see some of the crashes fixed. How much longer do we have to wait? I know the dev version has already fixed several issues, why cant we get an early peak?
Currently there are about 100 games supported by vorpX, almost every major current first person game that makes sense in the Rift is on that list. If you own all these games, you shouldn’t have to think twice about the cost of vorpX. :) vorpX also works with many more games than those that are mentioned in the compatibility list, the only thing missing in these games is S3D. If you feel any major game that is well suited for VR is missing, please let us know in the wishlist thread above.
The next update will have about 20 new games supported, focusing on smaller titles that work well in VR and the very few bigger releases that came out since the end of the last year.
DK2 and the future consumer version of the Rift will obvioulsy be supported, we ordered two DK2s on the day the annoucement was made. Please keep in mind that the Rift is still very much a beta product, and so is vorpX. The release date of the consumer Rift is our target date for version 1.0 of vorpX, but of course there will be several vorpX updates before that.
I’ve been contemplating buying Vorpx, but after putting down for the DK1, a new graphics card, and pre-ordering DK2 all in the last month or so the cost for the software is not insignificant. Vireio is free but has very limited compatibility and is difficult to set up properly so it’s not an ideal solution. Vorpx looks to have wider compatibility and a more dedicated VR focus than Tridef.
My concern is that it appears that there is only one person involved in the development, and the list of compatible titles doesn’t appear to have been updated at all in over four months new, a third of a year. The current library of compatible titles is not worth the money to me. The fact that the development team is so limited does not inspire trust that future updates will be frequent and worthwhile. There doesn’t seem to be any available information on what to expect in future releases or when to expect them.
Basically: I want to give you my money, please give me the confidence to do so!
Hi,
i´ve have some nasty Problems after my Os Reinstall with Vorp-X.
First of all, i didn´t have any of these Problems bevore i had to reinstall my OS. I´m using Win8.1 64bit which is full updated to the latest Date. Graphic and Hardware Drivers are also on the newest Version.
I´m having 2 Users on my System, one as a Admin and my Gaming Persona ;)
My Admin is Password protected , my Gaming-self not.
I installed Vorp-x with my Admin, which worked with no Problems, Vorp-x Started and play all Steam/Origin Games. So fine so good.
When i switch to my Gaming-self, or reboot to my Gaming-self which is my Standard ID, Vorp-x doesn´t show up. Ok,so i get the Programm from my installed Dir, make a Link and try to start it from Desktop. This makes a error (critical error…bla, bla cannot do its magic). When i start now my link with Admin Rights. Vorp-x starts….buuuuuuut doesn´t work with any Game. Hmm, so i quit Steam, started it with Admin Rights and… it worked.
so i guess, that a lot of the cannot-start-Game-X-with-Vorp-x encountered the Same Problem as me now. Vorp-x doesn´t work with multiple Accounts on one PC. Because when i install a Programm on a fresh PC, the System asks me for the Admin password, and after the install Vorp-x is unusable. Maybe there are some Registry settings missing or the installer only install for Admins only.
This is something that should really fixed, i installed my Gamer User because my Adminuser on my last System got corrupted and make my system unuseable.
vorpX’s aspect ratio handling stems from the fact that it supports two different S3D modes. For Z-Buffer 3D to work across a wide range of games, the AR-correction is done the way it is done. This is not a bug. We might look into changing the way this is handled for Geometry 3D, but no promises when that might happen.
If you want a 1:1 aspect ratio across the whole image, you can use the letterbox AR mode combined with a slightly too high vignette scale. However, there currently is a glitch that leads to the lens warp scaling with the vignette size, which shouldn’t be the case. For very high (or low) vignette scale settings this leads to a slightly wrong lens warp. This will be addressed in an future update. Might not be the next, but certainly before version 1.0.
Thanks, for letting me know. I already ordered two of them, so hopefully we will receive them as soon as possible.
Any news about the update you guys were looking to push last month?
I think i should have bought tridef instead of this.. at least there are updates..
Registering my interest in the driver update for DayZ SA!
I second that, also bf4 and ArmA 3 are desperate for geometry 3d… When is the next update?
i always had to run it through uplay and steam. it usually takes a couple of tries to get it to open, and i have to close fc3updatersteam or something after each try, but it always works for me. great game to play on the rift too.
Left for Dead is not officially support in the current vorpX version, that’s why there is no Stereo 3D. vorpX tries to run even unsupported games, but in most cases without S3D. Normally a message is displayed on startup whenever that is the case.
The next update of vorpX will have full support for L4D2.
When I first got VorpX it seemed to work brilliantly, but this past few weeks it seems to be unable to run games with any visible stereoscopy.. I don’t know if it’s due to a recent graphics card driver update (nVidia) or something I’ve done, but reinstalling hasn’t helped… Every game is just flat.
My apologies. While I’ve never discovered why the auto-update did not function, I simply re-ran the original installer and it replaced my existing copy with 0.6.4.
As always, thanks Ralf for all the hard work.
Work and family life has caught up to me and I’ve not been gaming much since about October. Had some time to play with the Rift tonight and saw the November blog post about an update. The blog mentions version 0.6.4, yet when I run VorpX, the version reported is 0.6.1.
It’s my understanding that VorpX updates should be automatic, but after leaving the VorpX control running for an extended period, I’m seeing no update notification or change in the version number displayed when in-game. Is there something that might be interfering with the update mechanism?
Thanks for any insight.
