I was wondering what “shortly after Easter” could mean :D
    Can’t wait to try it

I was wondering which Easter :)
But I saw the weapon auto hide post so I suspected that is the delay. Anyway, looking forward to next week, thanks!

Hmm, so maybe bigscreen improved a bit since I tried it. I stopped using it altogether after they started geo-blocking all content.

In vorpX Cinema mode you can adjust the distance to the screen but not it’s size. A closer screen take up more of your FOV but might not give the impression of a big screen. There is however “Immersive Screen” in which the screen should be bigger by default and it also has a “screen scale” setting.

Personally I find the default screen size to be OK. I generally use cinema for top-down or side-scroller games which are usually called 2.5D, whereas for first/third person games I use immersive.

But there is an item for the next release of vorpx:
Improved immersive screen size default and range. The default values now provide a more natural world scale at typical game FOVs while at the same time you can adjust the screen size/distance even more to your own liking than before.

Ignoring the 3D part, my experience with hooking was better than desktop viewer.
Most of the issues have to do with G3D/Z3D not working or causing artifacts, with hooking the biggest issue is, well, not being able to hook.

When using a VR desktop app it’s difficult to sync the frames. Depending on whether the game is configured in windowed/borderless/exclusive or has vsync on/off, the frame rate is either matched to your monitor or is unbounded. When it is lower than your HMD refresh you will usually experience blurr, when it is higher it can either be OK or take up so much GPU that the VR rendering stutters.
For best results you will have to use a frame rate limiter. But even so there won’t be a perfect sync and will get the occasional stutter.

When hooking vorpX will automatically sync the game with the HMD. Even if the automatic part doesn’t work, there are settings within vorpX so no need for an additional tool.

As for VR desktop apps the best one in terms of performance overhead is Virtual Desktop. I checked bigscreen, vorpX desktop viewer and Depth3D VR companion app. vorpX is the next one so if you really want the ambience mode it should be ok. The Depth3D app is decent, it stands out with the reshade integration, but if you don’t care about 3D there should be no reason to use it over VD or vorpX. I wouldn’t touch bigscreen, unless it improved in the last months since I used it.

The performance overhead when hooking is about the same as with the viewer, but the syncing makes games so much smoother than even Virtual Desktop.
To reiterate, even for plain 2D viewing, not “as intended” :), I find hooking to be easier and better performing than the desktop viewer for me.

Yeah, “native” just means without a framework, but doesn’t necessarily mean SBS.

I just tried Trine 3 (which is DX9) with the Avatar profile and it works. The official profile is not SBS, shadows are disabled and there were some minor glitches. With the SBS profile these issues are not present. Trine 3 has in-game setting for separation, convergence and UI depth, but not for FOV and height.

For some games it might be worth trading some settings and horizontal resolution (essentially all of them are Half-SBS) in exchange for less graphical issues and usually better performance.

There is a list on PCGamingWiki with Native 3D support https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/w/index.php?title=Glossary:Native_3D. Of course it’s not comprehensive, you might notice Avatar and Far Cry 2 are not there.

Of the 37 games, 16 have vorpX profiles (based on the data that you are probably filling in on the wiki). At least Shadow of the Tomb Raider is SBS in the official vorpX profile.
I used SOTR profile to hook into other DX11 games supporting SBS. Now it should be possible for older DX9 based on the Avatar profile.

I tried making this work with DX12 but with no luck.
The profile for RDR2 installs the hook and works with Shadow of the Tomb Raider on DX12 but of course isn’t SBS. Even if the dxgi hook is installed switching back to the SOTR SBS profile won’t hook into DX12.

I don’t think there is any DX12 game with a SBS profile in the official list and it’s probably not possible to create a custom one. It would be nice to have one so it can be used as base for other games (even if native SBS support in games is scarce).

SOTR is probably intentionally nuking DX11 performance for marketing. There should be no reason to get 1.5-2.5x more FPS by switching to DX12, but that’s how this game behaves.

(I’m aware this is an old thread :)

This was happening for me as well. It seems to be a combination of two things: vorpX changing game settings and the official profile being SBS.

The game natively supports SBS and vorpX uses that option instead of its own G3D or Z3D. In order to use that it needs to enable SBS in game config. If you already changed the game config (resolution, display mode etc.) prior to running with vorpX there might be some conflicts.

In my case when running the game normally it would start, but when I got into display configuration and enabled SBS the screen would go black. Also I managed to start the game with vorpX hooked but without SBS and in the headset each eye would see half the screen. So I figured it’s not vorpX hooking that’s the issue but this SBS mode causing the black screen.

I tried restoring settings from vorpX config app but that didn’t help. In the end what worked for me is completely clearing the game config by deleting this registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Eidos Montreal\Shadow of the Tomb Raider\
Once I’ve done that I started the game without changing anything, went into display settings and enabled SBS. This time it worked without causing the black screen.
Then I started the game with vorpX and that also worked. I adjusted resolution and graphics after that.

Normally Deus Ex MD starts a launcher which then launches the actual game. It seems vorpX disables that and the game launches directly. If this isn’t the case for you try to start the game with -benchmark and/or -nolauncher.

I have vorpX with the default settings (standard hooking method, no admin) and it hooks without issues. vorpX should also change game settings automatically, but make sure in the game’s display settings you have DX12 OFF, Fullscreen ON, Exclusive Fullscreen ON.

While for me it hooks just fine, Z3D is only working in the menu, the benchmark and cinematics. During gameplay only interactive objects have depth. I see there are long standing issues with Z3D on this game. G3D works but for some reason just doesn’t look good in this game.

Are there any particular settings to try out? I don’t get any depth on any option with the cloud profile.

Warrie check if reprojection is active Enabling motion reprojection for SteamVR Apps
I don’t know what is the default option, but make sure it’s disabled (none option) if you don’t need it. The 90 game / 45 headset was occurring for me sometimes for a few seconds and it turned out to be auto reprojection.

Unfortunately it doesn’t work with the release version. Most likely the demo was an early preview using Unity engine. The full version uses the developer’s in-house Z-Engine. Other than Skullgirls there seems to be just one other game built with this engine.
I tried various either profiles, hooking methods and display modes. Most don’t even hook and when they do there’s no 3D.

Reshade + Depth3D does hook and can extract the depth map. It’s not perfect though, player characters are not registered in the Z-buffer and will stick to whatever is behind. Fine detail like foliage is also not registered. Strangely NPCs have correct depth information.
The game is also locked at 60 FPS.

I got mine end of December and have been using it almost exclusively with vorpX, for a little over 100 hours. Primarily because I had all Rifts including DK1/2 and played most VR native games. But also because the experience in cinema/immersive is better than on my monitor for many games.

    Trine 4 would be nice.
It doesn’t successfully hook with Trine 2/3 profiles. The developers don’t plan to natively support stereoscopic 3D like Trine 3. Also they say Trine 4’s engine has significant differences.
Reshade/Depth3D hooks into it though and gets depth data. So Z3D should be possible with vorpX. It should be pretty decent considering it’s a “2.5D” game.

    In short, no.
There is extensive controller support and input configuration in vorpX, but no built-in controller movement support currently.
There might be at some point, it was asked a couple of times most recently here:
    controller movement

Just to note there are two lists: the official list which is automatically loaded into your local profiles, and the cloud profiles where you have to explicitly search and import.
If you can’t find a game in either list then you can follow @steph12 ‘s guide.
