Hi Guys! We’ve just started a petition to SEGA about Alien Isolation CV1 support here: https://www.change.org/p/sega-alien-isolation-vr-support-for-oculus-cv1-and-htc-vive?recruiter=591235358&utm_source=share_for_starters&utm_medium=copyLink

Perhaps it worths a try. If you agree, please, sign it!

Seems we quite much share the same opinion…:)

Hi! Does this run with runtime 1.3?

I’d like to add two notes to this conversation.

    1. I don’t think it’s impossible to build 4K VR rig. Many people say it is, but that’s not true. F.e. new GTX Pascal Titan X SLI could easily handle this. I know it’s expensive, but not impossible! (unless problems occur with bandwith)

    2. I wouldn’t say the commenter guys are negative, they are much more realists. I’ve also made my research when these chineese HMDs came out, but the conclusion was it’s not worth buying. So yes, in this term the 4K screen they use is still kind of a “gimmick”. You have to consider, resolution is only one piece of the puzzle! But there are others as well, like type of the panel, refresh rate and the lenses. First, LCD is NOT an option for VR. You don’t see LCD in any major HMD manufacturers’ products and this is not an accident. Secondly, 60 Hz is far too low! DK1 was 60 Hz and it was only enough to show a little piece of how VR will work some time in the future. Thirdly, proper lenses are extremely important (f.e. to reduce blur, chromatic aberraion etc.). And in these chineese products lenses are not anywhere close to what Oculus uses. So all in all, usable 4K VR is NOT here yet, no matter, how chineese hype their new products. There are dosens of HMD manufacturers out there already, and if 4K was a reasonable option at present, they’d have put their 4K solutions onto market already, trust me.

I have high hopes about Samsung’s upcoming S8 4K screen. If it can handle 90 Hz or more, than you will see high quality 4K HMDs by late 2017 or in 2018.

Untill than the most I expect is CV2 with full HD per eye (4K in total) at 120 Hz. That’d be the first “worth buying” HMD product in my opinion. Unless Star VR would be released in the near future…

    Hi

Just one question. Since Alien Isolation has native OR support programmed into it’s engine, why do you want to play it with VorpX? I play it without VorpX and works like a charm. Try it this way if you have issues.

    Hello Ralf!

I would really appreciate if you helped me in the following matter.

Nowadays more and more games use ENB and SweetFX graphical options, that improve graphics quality really much.

The problem is, that these programs use d3d9.dll file, but VorpX will not launch untill d3d9.dll file is in the game directory. So it means, that it seems to be impossible to play these games on DK2.

Could you please recommend any solution?

Or would it be possible to fix this problem anyhow in future releases of VorpX?

    Thanks: Szabby

    Hi!

I recommend you not to use VorpX for Alien Isolation, since it is one of the few games that has “unofficial” Oculus Rift support built into the engine.

To make it work you simply have to edit a line in the cfg file.

Here is a quick guide how you can do this:

One of the most impressing OR experiences by the way.

    Cheers

To my knowledge at present the only STALKER game that runs in DX11 under VorpX is Call of Pripyat. Other STALKER games – SHOC, CS, LA – run only in DX9 mode (I hope Ralf will implement R3 renderer to LA soon).

If you don’t want to enter game only for changing DX settings, than I recommend you to enter user.ltx in appdata folder. In user.ltx you find a line “renderer renderer_r*”. You must turn it to “renderer renderer_r2”. R2 is DX9 mode.

Makes sure you use the rift in extended mode.

You’ll also have to set the FOV, becouse STALKER games use 75-85 FOV as default, and with the rift you’ll need a much higher FOV, around 120-130. STALKER LA and COP do have fov command from console. SHOC doesn’t, it is rather tricky to alter FOV there, but not impossible. I don’t remember right now how FOV is altered in CS, but surely possible.

    Hi!

I try to help yout problem.

First and most important question: do you try to play the game with Vorpx in DX9 mode?

    Hi Ralf!

First of all, thank you for implementing STALKER – Lost Alpha support. However, Geometry 3D causes several graphic issues (flickering shadows and textures, doubled edges etc.), but Z3D works well.

Would you please help me answering the following questions:

    1. In STALKER – Lost Alpha DX10 mode offers much better visual quality than DX9. Do you plan to implement Z3D supprt for DX10 as well?

    2. There is a SweetFX/ENB mod for Lost Alpha, that makes visuals much better under DX9. The files of this mod have to be copied into BIN folder, where the exe file of the game is. There is a file of the mod, namely D3D9.dll, and the problem is, that VorpX won’t launch becouse of this file, VorpX sends an error message due to this file and quits. So this means, that if I want to play the game in DK2, I must delete d3d9.dll, so I won’t be able to use the mod.

Could you please recommend me any possible solutions to solve this issue?

    Thank you!

Just one more addition: Autumn Aurora 2.1 seems to be the best visual mod for SHOC right now (but of course, there are many more outstanding mods as well). AA2.1 was developed by some of the developers of Lost Alpha, so the quality is guaranteed :)!

    Hi!

I use COP with Multi Merge mod, and the graphics is really outstanding! Especially with geometry 3D. But don’t use maximum amount of it, becouse it might cause headache, if there is too much 3D turned on.

Yes, LA is great, I’ve told to Ralf in several of my previous e-mails, that he should focus on this game, and yet it couldn’t be that hard either to integrate into VorpX, becouse LA uses a little bit tweaked version of XRayEngine used in COP.

Like I said, most importan to set FOV to around 120-130 in STALKER games in DK2, otherwise you will get a serious headache:).

I have spent weeks to make STALKER games run properly on DK2. So if I can help you, don’t hesitate to ask.:)

    Hi!

You already can play STALKER COP in geometry 3D in DX11 (as I’m sure you have already tried). SHOC, CS and LA are only Z3D and DX9.

However, I recommend you to try SHOC+Autumn Aurora 2.1. That game is extremely powerfull in visuals, even without “real” 3D.

Just don’t forget to set FOV around 120-130. That is necesary I think to have the real immersive experience (vanilla STALKER games have FOV only around 55-67.5, and even FOV switchers offer only FOV90 at maximum. But I think you must set FOV to much higher than 90).

In one of his posts Ralf promised to add geometry 3D for all STALKER games. Let’s hope, he was serious on this. Especially Lost Alpha, which offers the highest quality visuals among all STALKER games so far.

Question is, when will Ralf be able to make this changes in VorpX…

Yet there is another thing I can think of. Before launching the game in extended mode, didn’t you forget to PAUSE OR SERVICE??

    Hi!

Not at all, and nevertheless, unfortunatelly I was not yet able to solve your problem. Although, I would like to.

What I asked: in Oculus Configuration utility there is “show demo scene”. This demo is for adjusting IPD. Did you go through this?

And besides: have you ever tried to switch geometry 3D to Z-buffer 3D?
