I also noticed that the support from Microsoft will be submitted later. have already pre-ordered the HP Reverb and the G2. I am only concerned with the time until it natively supports VR. therefore I would be interested to know if this is possible via Vorbx. at least like some kind of bigscreen.

Literally EVERYTHING (unless theres some edge cases that break your PC cause its too much for it to handle) is supported with the Vorpx Desktop Viewer.

To get to this, launch Vorpx as you normally would. Dont launch a game or an application though, just get the program “Started” so its on the bottom right on your screen on the Start Menu bar. Right click it and Select “Start vorpx Desktop Viewer”

Put your headset on, you will have Vorpx displaying your desktop in Cinema/Immersive screen mode. No 3d, that requires actual ‘support’ for the program you are running; but I use this for watching movies or playing games without support all the time. For instance, Forza Horizon on Gamepass has an awesome battle royale mode, love launching it up with Desktop Viewer with music blaring and just go to town.

You can also launch Netflix or Disney+ or Hulu, etc and watch movies like you’re on a giant screen.

Small tip – Increase your Desktop Resolution to whatever you want the video output to be. For instance, Disney+ till only play a movie at 1080p if your desktop resolution, when you start your browser is at 1080p… so even if your monitor doesnt support 4k; go ahead and add 4k to your monitor as a resolution and then Disney+ movies should look much crisper. I believe Netflix does the same thing.

Good luck! Hope it works well for you until official support for Flight Sim

    https://hothardware.com/news/microsoft-flight-simulator-is-coming-to-steam-vr-support

Its getting native VR Support after a few months for all of the more popular headsets. Buy it on Steam to increase likelihood your headset will get support – even if MS drops the ball and only manages to get it to work on limited headsets, I have confidence Valve will get it working just fine with SteamVR and get it working on headsets other than their own.

    From the article:
The first VR headset that will be supported by Microsoft Flight Simulator will be the Hewlett-Packard Reverb G2. The Reverb G2 was announced back in late May as a “no-compromise VR headset” and features dual 2.89-inch (2160×2160) displays – one for each eye – along with a pair of motion controllers. “We’re starting with them,” said Microsoft Flight Simulator lead Jorg Neumann.

“There’s some extra work to be done for some of the others. I mean, we’re going to bring it to all the devices – all the common ones. It’s just going to take a few more months after that.” So, all of you Oculus Rift and HTC Vive owners out there will likely be supported; you’ll just be waiting a bit longer.”

    Ok
    Another questions

I was playing Assasin Creed Odyssey in 85 fps and all on max , when i play it in VR with same settings it goes to around 40 fps lol …same for Witcher 3. Is this normal ?
    I have a rtx 2080 and core i9

Yes, this is a laymans explanation which anyone can feel free to fix/extrapolate on, but I will try to explain.

For VR to “WORK” (this goes with Vorpx or actual VR Titles like Saints and Sinners or Half Life Alyx) the game needs to be ‘rendered’ twice (basically your PC needs to run the same game TWICE, once for each eye, to create the 3d VR effect; you have two eyeballs, each one can not detect true depth or 3 dimensions on it’s own, it needs the second eye and together they pair together to create an image with depth)

So.. Your example of Assassins Creed and Witcher both basically running at 1/2 the speed your PC would run them OUTSIDE of VR lines up EXACTLY with what should be happening IN VR. Your PC is basically running Assassins Creed TWICE.

You will notice, if youve been in VR for a a little while… most VR games dont tend to be very pretty, they tend to go with pretty simple graphical styles; and the ones that are ‘pretty’, like Half Life Alyx – they dont tend to be very open ended like something like Assassins Creed cause simply – most modern PCs cant handle the strain.

This is why PSVR (Playstation VR) games are exceptionally poor looking. They are trying to do what we are doing with a grossly underpowered machine. More power to them for trying, but, the graphics and resolution on those games speak volumes about how much raw power is NEEDED for a good VR experience.

So, for me – I have an RTX 5600XT. I can basically play RDR2 at 1440p with pretty much high/some max settings on my monitor. In Vorpx tho, I need to tone everything down to medium and low. Its just the nature of the beast. This has nothing to do with poor programming on Vorpx’s part or anything of that nature; this is just what VR is. It needs to RENDER the scene TWICE to give you the feeling of depth and thus the whole point of VR.

We will have graphics cards capable of running incredible full sized worlds like Witcher at that graphical fidelity one day and run smooth – but we arent there yet.

Thankfully there is Timewarp, which is built into Vorpx – if you can get your game to run at 46 FPS, the game will appear utterly smooth thanks to some magic done by VR devs. So, not all hope is lost, just get that FPS ticker up to 46 FPS; it will show you if youre not reaching it in the corner of your headset while playing in Vorpx… just means you need to lower some details or lower your resolution a little bit.

Ok there was a demo from like 6 months ago (not the actual game demo; a sort of alternative storyline to main game) and got it working in Geo3d with Ori Will of Wisps profile. Seemed to be running pretty smooth with Geo3d at anything below 4k on my 5600xt.

Ill post an actual profile for full game tomorrow if it works fine.

Thanks, Ralf! I had to rollback my drivers and gonna give a shot at getting them updated again to give this a go, I appreciate the work!

    Stay safe out there

Not shure how good radeon cars perform with VorpX. I would guess DS3 is a demanding game. Your hardware doesnt look that bad to me.

Thanks for taking the time to respond… Going to still dig thru Darksiders 3 and hopefully ill be luckier with Geo 3d in the next game.

Its a fun little spin on the Souls formula – No lie, its the best whip in a game ive ever seen too. If you wanted a more ‘lighthearted’ take on the Souls formula and to play a totally badass chick (Fury is awesome compared to the other horsemen so far) with a totally wicked video game Whip, give it a try. Its on Xbox Game Pass for PC if anyone has that!

    Take care and be safe

I followed the trouble shooting guide and still nothing with RDR2. I’ve also tested other games like Bioshock series and those work fine.

Im on a 5600 xt and was having the same issue. I rolled my drivers back to ones from January and it now hooks. You may need to revert your drivers to get the game running. Seems like Rockstar messed with stuff that broke current AMD and Nvidia drivers from working

But, I was having same issue with most recent drivers and reverting to old ones got me up and running on a 5600

    Ralf,

Just managed to get the game running again on older AMD drivers; 20.1.3

Took me a few tries but this one seems to work. Just wanted to let you know!

Just so you know Ralf, I have a 5700 Radeon card and its not hooking for that either, I tried ‘alternative hooking method’ and tried running my CV1 as a SteamVR headset also and still couldnt get it to hook.

Thanks for looking into it, just wanted you to know its not just Nvidia, they mustve done something to mess with everything :\

Thanks for all your time and work! Stay safe!

In contrast to nVidia cards for AMD cards vorpX currently can’t check whether global VSync is on or off, so this message is always shown as a precaution. If you are sure that it’s not enabled, you can safely ignore the message.

BTW: most of the time it doesn’t matter anyway since usually vorpX can override VSync.

Thanks, Ralf. I guess i was just pushing the system a bit too hard with Ac Odyssey, ill try toning my settings down further to see if i can get it running smoother, thanks for the quick response, I appreciate all your time and work!

Take care of yourself in these crazy times!

Hey Ralf after this last update im getting an error ‘the config app seems to be missing. if the problem persists, reinstalling vorpx might help.”

Im not sure if it was the update or not that did this but i have not deleted ANYTHING regarding Vorpx.

Is this something I might be able to fix without reinstalling or should i send you a support ticket for a new download? Sorry, this has happened to me a few times and hate harassing you for a new download, but, if theres no fix I can do, ill submit a support ticket.

    Thank you for your time!

Not that i know of, Ralf and i use the application regularly. their anti cheat garbage is too extreme, i got nothing running and cant even get gears 5 to launch because their anti cheat system is so overzealous, i have no clue what it thinks its finding but ive tried disabling everything and it wont even launch a game WITHOUT Vorpx being involved.

I have had Gamepass games work perfectly with Vorpx that were single player – like Darksiders 3 worked 100% fine. Outer Worlds worked fine but there was another user who had controller issues with the GamePass version as well, I think the profile just wasnt able to get into the ini files or whatever it is you usually tweak to get the mk/controller functionality to work at same time.

So, sorry, thats not exactly an answer to your question, but my experience with this program, even on its own, has been sketch. Vorpx has worked for single player games, but Outer Worlds did have a control problem I think another user replicated, neither of us could figure it out.

So – long story short – you work hard for us and i appreciate you coming out and just asking bluntly to help make the program more functional for us – but i think youre fighting an impossible battle with the current iteration of Xbox Game Pass games. Its going to work sometimes but I wouldnt stress it, as a consumer, I appreciate you trying to get it to work – but dont beat yourself up over this one at all; its very much so still an application with many of its own issues that are totally out of your control.

Thanks for your time and be safe with the craziness going on!
