    Phoenix:
Thanks for testing. I fixed my issues with Skyrim, so it’s only Bioshock Infinite. The place I’m talking about is about 10 minutes in, so it is very early in the game.
And yes, SKSE64 is out in a very early alpha, which shouldn’t be used for anything but testing, because it might break something unexpected. Still very awesome news! Only bad thing is I’ll have to wait a while before playing Skyrim now. FAllout 4 here I come ;)

    nieda:
Are you talking about Bioshock Infinite or Skyrim?

Here is all you need to know. Make sure to watch the original video first. There are time codes in the description: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L42LPbcnS64&list=PL7wZ82bhoGB6UOA-1_aUc3QHwMVeEjNv4&index=10

    Ralf:
It’s Bioshock infinite and sadly it didn’t help. I tried to move on to the next part and there the stutter was less noticeable, maybe it’s just that part of the game. It’s the level called fairgrounds if you want to test it yourself.
Skyrim side question. Does turning off shadows through Vorpx help with frame rate or do I have to turn them off from the ini?

More tests. Skyrim runs better now. Both Oldrim and SSE. I’d say SSE has less stuttering than Oldrim, which makes sense, since it is less cpu bound. I can’t get the frame rate to go higher than 45fps on SSE with or withou async and/or fluid. If it’s vsync problem I haven’t been able to turn it off. I’ve tried the Vorpx optimizer, turn off-vsync through ini, but nothing helps. The said, it feels smooth, so might I just say to hell with it.
Turning off TXAA makes the image just as clear as Oldrim, so with a GTX 1080 Ti and my CPU, considering pop-ins, better shadows (even though they are a bit weird, so maybe I’ll turn them off) and general graphics I’d say SSE is the most viable option. If you don’t like the saturated look you can turn it down through Vorpx and/or install a mod like Climates of Tamriel.

Even with the annoying Bioshock performance I’m feeling pretty good about my purchase. I can’t wait for SKSE64 to be officielly out and play Skyrim SSE modded to hell!

I’ve tested some more. Seems like the problem with Skyrim was ASync was off. It run okay now and the fps dips I get are probably CPU bound.

With Bioshock I have no idea whats wrong. The stutters are massive even on Z-buffered, lower resolution or lower settings. I even tried without Vorpx and I actually get very minor stuttter in the exact same places. They are much bigger with Vorpx, though. Seems like it’s the game or maybe a bug with my setup. I didn’t get these stutters 6 months back on my old 980, but of course my frame rate wasn’t good on higher resolutions. Could someone test Bioshock with the first part of the game, mostly the fairground with all the npcs and games, and see if it’s just a problem with the game or maybe windows updates has messed something up yet again.

Lastly I ran Furmark for 10 minuttes (I was in a hurry) without a hitch, but my cpu got up to 100 degrees (C) when running prime and Furmark at the same time, which seems a bit to much. It’s clocked at 4.0 Ghz, which is stock clocking. Right now it’s idling at 53 Degress (C).

I think the difference is quite big. You are definitely getting a smoother experience and higher resolution if you go with GTX 1080 Ti. I just ordered a GTX 1080 Ti and is hoping it will drop today. I upgraded from a GTX 980, which is a bit weaker than 1070, but pretty comparable. I’d say go with the 1080 Ti if you can afford it.

It’s an amazing purchase and it is so sad that people bitched so much about it in the beginning. Most of those comments are fairly old. And then there are people who expect all of their favorite games to work out of the box without doing any research.
I do think it should have had better official documentation that clearly states what games work, what to expect and how to set it up, instead of having to scour the internet for unofficial how-to-guides. I honestly think Ralf could have prevented a lot of the misconceptions had he called it experimental software or early access in the beginning… Maybe even still, even though it has achieved amazing things, that I’d never thought to be possible.

Sounds like you are in virtual cinema mode and have mouse movement enable at the same time. Hit DELETE and set virtual cinema mode to off. You could also be in edge peek mode, so try hitting middle mouse button and see if that helps. Here is a tutorial series. I strongly recommend you to start with a game on this list and get to know the app before trying other games or at least watch the first episode, which is a general guide to Vorpx. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6upXBJtc9l8&list=PL7wZ82bhoGB6UOA-1_aUc3QHwMVeEjNv4

Try starting Oculus home first. Disable all your anti virus software and turn off windows defender. Also try Bioshock Infinite, Skyrim, New Vegas or Dishonored just to make sure it’s not the game. That is all I can think of for the moment.

Yes, use xpadder or something similar. I use a paid app called Pinnacle, which is more flexible and powerful than the free solutions. How I set it up is a case by case basis. For New Vegas I setup the whole mapping through Pinnacle, while I only mapped edge peek and reset view on top the native controller mapping in Dishonored and Bioshock even though those buttons already did something else it worked like a charm. I changed Vorpx hotkeys for the edge peak and reset to Home and End instead of Mouse 3 and alt+space and then mapped the controller to End and Home.

With Pinnacle you can do other cool stuff. Like having the whole button layout change, when you hold certain buttons, to make room for more hotkeys, or have the right stick only move the on X-axis, and much more.

Have you tried setting a custom resolution through the Skyrimpref.ini? That’s usually how I do it with VR aspect ratios.
Thanks for the heads up on price increase. Luckily my old man is just as big a gear freak as me, so he totally understood why I needed 300 bucks right now, haha!

So you are just playing with the standard format 3840×2160? Have you tried 2880×2160, which would be the 4:3 aspect ratio for 4k? Might give you a few more fps.

Thanks for responding. I think I’m aiming for native Oculus res in G3D and not 4k. I think it’s 1920×1440. But that’s the thing about Vorpx. Everyone has their own preferences. But as far as I’ve learned from different benchmarks 1080 ti will double me fps in most games on any resolution. That’s a good place to start ;)

Thanks, but I do think the whole point of upgrading is running it in G3D. I can get decent visuals and stable 45fps on z-buffered with my current setup. But if you are on Vive fps might be a bigger issue. As long as a 1080 ti can keep me over 45fps, I’m golden.

Well, then it will only take a few seconds to turn G3D off for water sections. Not perfect, but how often would you wade into water in a full set of armor anyway ;)
