RalfKeymasterFairly unlikely that would work in any usable manner. Even in the unlikely case that vorpX could correctly hook into the 3D viewport(s), the GUI would be missing. UI compononents in the majority of 3D applications aren’t drawn with D3D/OpenGL.
Your best bet is using the desktop viewer, but that’s probably not what you had in mind as it would just be the CAD application in 2D on a huge screen.
RalfKeymasterThanks for the heads-up. I’ll check that on occasion, although I’m not really sure whether I can do something about it. Sounds as if the Chrome plugin somehow clashes with the WordPress theme used for the site. Probably solvable, but I don’t think I’ll dive that deep into the PHP/JavaScript stuff of the theme. Things like that can easily cost a few days that I’d rather spend on vorpX.
RalfKeymasterThat’s a list of games that support Geometry 3D. If your are looking for a list with beginner’s friendly games that can be played in FullVR mode with minimal to no manual setup please check this list: click.
RalfKeymasterFor some reason Defender apparently hides quarantined files when the originating folder gets excluded. Experienced the same weird thing here when I checked the issue earlier.
Just reinstall vorpX, that will replace the file. If you didn’t keep the web installer, you can get a new one any time: https://www.vorpx.com/request-new-download/
This issue should be resolved by now BTW, in contrast to many other AV vendors MS usually is quite fast when it comes to handling reported false positives. A manual Windows update check should get you the latest Defender definitions.
Excluding the vorpX program folder is still a good idea, prevents potential similar issues with future updates.

RalfKeymasterJust checked this. As supected positional tracking is disabled in the profile.
However, normally you should be able to override that setting by unlocking pos tracking if you have expert settings enabled in the config app. Unfortunately that doesn’t work as intended apparently. I have to take closer look at that.
I’ll see whether I can do a quick hotfix, but there’s also a chance that it will take until the next major update in July or August.
RalfKeymasterTry MPC-HC if VLC doesn’t do the trick.
Caveat: similarly to the desktop viewer you will have to make sure that the video players run on your dedicated GPU. That should be easier than forcing the desktop to the dedicated GPU though. Most gaming laptops come with some app that allows you to force a program to the dedicated GPU.
RalfKeymasterYou don’t need the desktop viewer for watching 3D movies. That’s actually not even the best way to do that. vorpX comes with dedicated profiles for the free MPC-HC and VLC video players.
Watching movies with the desktop viewer is inferior to using the video player profiles since it involves an additional image scaling operation as well es an additional frame rate conversion (movie > desktop > headset), instead of just movie > headset with the dedicated video player profiles.
RalfKeymasterYou should still be able to import user settings that were built on top of the official profile.
Importing any potentially available older full custom profile from before there was an official one wouldn’t make sense anyway, those would be for the long defunct DX9 version of the game.
RalfKeymasterIf you can’t fully disable the integrated GPU, the vorpX desktop viewer won’t work for you, sorry. Not really an issue these days since as far as I’m aware all major headset runtimes (Oculus, WMR, SteamVR) have a dektop viewer built-in. Apart from having different environment scenes those should provide similar functionality.
RalfKeymasterYou can activate a single license on two machines to cover typical dual use cases e.g. with a desktop/laptop PC. Both have to be yours, you cannot share a license.
May 13, 2021 at 9:57am in reply to: Immersive Screen Size Limits in terms of system/programming? #203997
RalfKeymasterSomehow I get the feeleing no matter what the actual limits are for any setting are, there is always someone who wants more just because apparently more is always better. :)
Since the last update the size/distance now ranges from about 50cm high 50cm away to about 5m high 15m away. I think for all intents and purposes that’s a large enough range. Funny enough I just recently had en e-mail exchange where another user considered the range too large now…
RalfKeymasterThis is a false positive. Can happen shortly after an update,-
If you use Windows Defender, try a manual unpdate check in the Windows settings app. That will also update the Windows Defender definition. The issue should not occur with the latest Defender Definitions.
If you happen to use a third party AV program, report this as a false positive to your AV vendor, so they can fix the problem. Alternatively consider switching to Windows Defender instead. Windows Defender provides excellent protection without being as invasive as some other AV scanners. Windows Defender gets enabled automatically on Windows 10 when you remove third party AV programs.
To prevent issues like this entirely exclude the vorpX program folder from scanning, typically that would be C:\Program Files\Animation Labs\vorpX.
RalfKeymasterIn addition to the above:
Also to accommodate your wish incidentally the default immersive screen size/distance has just been adjusted in the last version. If that’s still not enough for you, you can move the screen closer and make it smaller. Doing so will make appear things “more 3D” without having to actually increase the 3D-Strength, which would create even more artifatcs than the current maximum does already.
RalfKeymasterYou can adjust the sensitivity to your liking in the vorpX menu.
vorpX has to override the native gamepad in this game, no way around that. The game can’t handle mouse and gamepad input at the same time. Since vorpX has to emulate a mouse for head tracking, the only way to use a gamepad at the same time is emulating mouse/kb with the gamepad. The alternative would be no gamepad at all (or no headtracking).
RalfKeymasterIf you use any kind of multi GPU system, be it a gaming laptop or two GPUs in a desktop PC, you have to make sure the headset is connected to the same GPU that the desktop is running on. In case of gaming laptops that might not be possible to ensure 100% safely unless the integrated GPU can be disabled in the BIOS.
Unlikely to be the issue these days, but just in case: the desktop viewer requires Windows 8.1 or newer. It does not work on Windows 7 or Windows 8.0.
