RalfKeymasterLeave it at the value Steam suggests or at least do not raise it above 100%. The important resolution for vorpX image quality wise is the actual game resolution. The second pass resolution for rendering to the headset – which this value affects – should be the normal headset resolution to not waste unnecessary resources without gaining anything.
RalfKeymasterI’ll look into it. Any map where the issue shows reliably? The ones I tested when doing the profile looked OK, otherweise it wouldn’t have been included in the first place.
RalfKeymasterI could replicate the issue on Windows 7 with the file you sent me. No problem with Windows 10, on Windows 7 however updating the new ini with data from the old seems to fail. Extremely odd, the reason for that has still to be determined, but removing the file manually will help.
Hopefully Valve/Oculus will ditch Windows 7 soon for VR, far too much extra hassle for the remaining 3% percent of Windows 7 users among VR headset owners.
Please leave this as the final reply here, so that the step-by-step instructions below can be found easily. Thanks for your help!
To fix the issue:
1. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Animation Labs\vorpX
2. Delete vorpControl.ini.oldvorpControl.ini.old might show as vorpControl.ini if you don’t have file extensions enabled in Windows-Explorer
The C:\ProgramData\ folder is hidden per default by Windows. Enable “Show hidden files” in Windows Explorer if you can’t see it.
Alternatively you can delete the whole ‘C:\ProgramData\Animation Labs’ folder and reinstall vorpX afterwards.
RalfKeymasterDid you read my reply a few posts below yours regarding the same issue?
If you by any chance have enabled the new alternative hooking method in the vorpX config app, please uncheck that option. Seems to deadlock reproducibly here with alternative hooking, but works fine with regular hooking.
The new alternative method is not meant for general use. Only use it when you encounter a game that fails to hook with regular hooking on your machine and always try both methods in case of issues.
The new option is not better per-se, it exists to give you options in case of issues with regular hooking. Don’t use it unless necessary.
RalfKeymasterThe same answer as above applies.
RalfKeymasterSince it’s you :) : Please make sure that you do not have the settings optimizer disabled. That big red warning on every game start that you might have noticed is shown for a reason.
vorpX has to change some .ini values for G3D to work correctly. The more complex games get, and many new AAA games are highly complex technically, the more important it becomes that the exact right settings are active.
Also live switching from Z3D to G3D often causes glitches currently with new Frostbite games, so a game restart might be required when you do that.
If you still encounter issues as severe as you describe afterwards, let me know and I’ll look into it.
RalfKeymasterAlmost certainly a virus scanner issue. Avast is a well known candidate for problems. Please try to disable/uninstall it for testing purposes.
Some AV scanners make it purposefully hard to disable them fully. You may have to disable several modules for example, so uninstalling is the only way to ensure they are out of the way unfortunately.
I would suggest to switch to Windows Defender, which provides excellent protection without being as invasive as some other scanners. If you don’t want to do that, please report the issue to your AV vendor, they might have to whitelist every new vorpX version.
RalfKeymasterYou already have the new profiles in your local profile database. No need to download them from the cloud. Accessing cloud profiles usually is only required when you want to download profiles made by other users.
Unless something went wrong, you should see the new games in your “Local Profiles” list in the vorpX config app.
Thanks for heads-up though. I forgot to update the cloud profiles yesterday.
RalfKeymasterRift had that before SteamVR, Oculus calls it ‘Spacewarp’, pretty much a matter of taste. It’s basically the same debatable motion vector based method to create extra frames that TVs have since ages, just with new names. In contrast to the prior reprojection (or ‘Timewarp’ for Oculus), that only handles rotation, Motion Smoothing/Spacewarp also handles position changes. The price you pay for that are the typical visual artifacts you noticed.
Personally I prefer the rotation only reprojection which doesn’t introduce artifacts and is good enough for my taste. Oculus/Valve (also many users) however seem to favor the more glitchy motion smoothing for whatever reason.
RalfKeymasterCan the menus be navigated with the keyboard? If so hitting enter or space might work. I can’t really imagine how vorpX could cause that, but nothing is impossible.
I’ll check whether your issue can be replicated here, but not today (Sunday), sorry.
RalfKeymasterThe update with FS2019 support is live now.
Thanks for your offer re Pimax. Can’t hurt to try. I was briefly in contact with someone at Pimax a while ago. While they were interested in a vorpX version for Pimax 5k/8k, everytime I mentioned that the best course of action (actually the only one that makes sense) would be to provide a headset, they somehow managed to ignore that completely. Or maybe it was just some communication problem.
RalfKeymasterUnfortunaly there wasn’t enough time in the end to get a BFV profile done for yesterday’s update. It’s the No. 1 entry on the profile to-do-list for the next one though.
In the meantime you could try to make your own based on BF1 if none is in the cloud already. Probably makes sense to wait for the official one though. Official Battlefield profiles usually have a few extra bells and whistles like automatic camera FOV that make your life easier.
RalfKeymasterSounds more like an input focus issue than something directly related to vorpX. Try ALT+TAB out of the game and back, also switching between fullscreen/windowed or vice versa is worth a try.
RalfKeymasterIf you by any chance have enabled the new alternative hooking method in the vorpX config app, please uncheck that option. Seems to deadlock reproducibly here with alternative hooking, but works fine with regular hooking.
The new alternative method is not meant for general use. Only use it when you encounter a game that fails to hook with regular hooking on your machine and always try both methods in case of issues.
RalfKeymasterUpdate: resolution scaling is called ‘Resolution Modifier’ and vorpX automatically sets it to 100% on AC:Origins with the optimizer enabled. Can’t really remember why, but something like this never is done without good reason. So that might very much be the problem.
As always: usually not a good idea to disable the settings optimizer. If you have to, at least always first try with it enabled whenever you encounter issues.
