In reply to: Track IR with Vorpx

No need for external tools, vorpX handles TrackIR on its own. Whenever TrackIR support is detected in a game, an according hint is shown in the top/left corner of the game window. In case of Arma 3 TrackIR should already be enabled on the vorpX side (if not, please reset the profile to default in the menu), so you just have to enable TrackIR in the Arma 3 options menu.

Yet more playing and tweaking the FOV and the head tracking is now playing properly in 6DOF with the weapon sights, not sure what had happened before!

Also realised that the headtracking is simply an instance of opentrack (which I’m very familiar with) running in the background; it wasn’t part of vorpx last time I used it! I tweaked the curves and settings to my preference, now back to being able to lean to peak around corners and forward to zoom.

Changing the HUD layout in arma has removed the need to edge peek in normal usage (only needed for main menu), it is now much better than pancake + opentrack that I’ve used previously and I dare say probably revitalised my want to play arma again!

Switching from G3D to Z normal actually seemed to improve the image significantly in addition to performance, I now have perfect image quality and smoothness :)

Hey just wondering if there is a way to use Track IR software with Vorpx like opentrack without hardware such as trackhat or trackclip. Or a way to decouple Vorpx headtracking and mouse? I use Vorpx headtracking in most games but in Arma 3 it takes away freelook headtracking seperate to mouse movement and makes flying not enjoyable.

Following significant hardware upgrades I set up arma3 last night and once I’d got the higher custom resolutions running it’s all pretty good, I have a couple of questions though.

In order to replicate the pancake version weapon position/size I’ve had to adjust head position and image zoom accordingly, this seems to give a slight barrel distortion swim when I move my head – I presume mostly from the image zoom.

I’ve adjusted the FOV in the arma3 configs to 120°, would changing this improve things? Is there a defacto baseline value that most people use?

I’m currently using a 16:9 custom resolution of 3200×1800, however I’ve read that the 9:8 can reduce GPU load. Should I be shooting for keeping the 1800 width to achieve the same image clarity?

System is 5800X3D/3080ti/reverb G2 running @60Hz. With high arma3 settings at the above resolution is running above 60fps without a problem.

Any thoughts would be appreciated 🙂

    I figured it out!

In my case, I have Tobii Eye Tracker 5 for many games, and in the case of Arma 3 Tobii apparently uses its own version of Freetrack, which was causing a conflict when Opentrack was running. So my solution is to turn off Tobii Game Hub and Tobii Experience before starting up Arma 3 in VorpX, and now it works great with no more glitching.

Oh I see. I did as you suggested and uninstalled/reinstalled VorpX, but unfortunately the problem persists. The strange thing is that this also happened the very first time I ran Arma 3. The problem suddenly went away without me changing anything and it ran very well for a few days, until now. When troubleshooting yesterday, there was one instance where the issue went away and it worked as intended – but I haven’t been able to reproduce the steps that fixed it.

    Hi there,

So I’ve been able to play Arma 3 with VorpX for the last few days with good results, and suddenly I’m getting major flickering. I’ve tried reloading the default profile multiple times, as well as trying different VorpX settings, 3D modes, etc to no avail. Any suggestions on what could be going on?

    GIF for example:https://gfycat.com/flakydrearygreatdane

    My specs:

    CPU – 5900X
    GPU – RTX 3080
    2TB SSD
    64 GB RAM
    Quest 2 w/ Link Cable

Hi everyone I am playing arma3 and using a Xbox controller which works to control the character in game but when I use Vorpx the sensitivity is way to high so moving the stick a little makes me move way to fast
If I try and turn down the sensitivity in the game itself that does nothing
How can I lower the game sensitivity through vorpx

    Thanks

    Hi support and community,

I recently bought VorpX to replicate what this guy has done with WoFF, getting VorpX to hook into its engine (Combat Flight Sim 3) using the Flight Sim X template; he has it working fine – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k130n3K6PPI&t=650s

I also have the G2 headset and a similar specced PC. I notice he has a slightly older version of WoFF which still uses CFS3 for the 3D engine, and a slightly older VorpX which doesnt have a separate WMR choice for VR, including it within Steam VR.

I’ve tried every combination I can think of in the setup to get VorpX to hook into CFS3, including waiting for it to time out and install the ‘hook helper’, but it refuses to hook. I know VorpX works as I had it working fine with ARMA3.

Could anyone in support offer me advice? Could something have changed with the newer VorpX version?

    Thanks!!

I’m having 2 issues with trying to run arma 3 with a valve index and vorpx.
The first issue is that in full VR mode the whole screen moves with my head and I have to turn to cinema mode to make that stop, trackIR is on in the settings and headtracking is also on in vorpx but it isn’t working at all for full VR.
Second issue is that as soon as I launch a mission in arma with vorpx running it locks up the game and I can’t play. If I run arma 3 with vorpx not running I have 0 issues so I know it’s a vorpx thing.
I have tried searching the forums and used the suggestions to fix this but I’m pretty frustrated at this point.

    Hi,

I’ve adujusted the vorpx hud scale option much lower so I can see everything without needing to use edge peek however it now leaves a darker box with the hud scale visible is there anyway to make the darker box invisible/transparent? I’ve already tried setting the alpha of the arma 3 background to 0 but that doesn’t seem to affect it so I believe it may be a VorpX box rather than one relating to arma itself.

If you can’t find a user profile on the cloud profiles page of the vorpX config app, you can try to make your own by copying another UE4 profile and then assigning the game’s .exe to the copied profile.

For more detailed instructions check the ‘User Profiles’ section in the vorpX help. It also lists a bunch of UE4 profiles that you can try as a base profile.

Hi Ralf, I have tried these UE4 profiles (Conarium, The Turing Test, Get Even, Vampyr) but in none of them I have achieved any 3D effect, neither with G3D nor with Z3D. Is it possible that with this game the 3D mode cannot be activated?

On the other hand I have been testing the VorpX profile for the Arma 3 and it is very successful.
I like that you can play with the head separated from the weapon, but it would be even better if you put the option to assign the movement of the touch controller (pitch / yaw) to the weapon and it would be perfect. I have tried it with the auto_oculus_touch program and it works perfect but this program does not work from SteamVR.
In addition, this configuration would be useful for those who play FPS games in Immersive Screen mode and it is not convenient for them to use the head or the gamepad to move the weapon, and do not want to use the mouse.

It would also be perfect if you left free decision of assigning buttons and axes to the touch controllers, since for example I need to assign the movement keys (wasd) to the thumb pads of both touch at the same time, but you only allow me to assign it or to the right or to the left. Wouldn’t it be easier to leave free assignment of axes and buttons to any remote control and to adapt it to any configuration?

By the way congratulations on the development on the VorpX, very good job.
    Thanks a lot.
