kia75ParticipantHi,
I own Vive Pro 2 and it is really good headset. No other headset feels that real with price less then 3k so far.
But.
But it does not work properly with vorpx! Image looks blurry with z-buffer mods, geometry mod not working.
Just want to echo this. I own a Vive Pro 2, love it, it’s great for most of my games! I’ve never been able to get Vorp-x to work.

KazeonParticipant@Ralf: Thanks for the encouragement!
@moarveer: Thank you! I don’t plan to just buy it anytime soon tho, maybe early next year that is. Hopefully the price has already dropped a bit by that time.
@Lawrence1962: Wow that’s a lot of information in one post! Thank you so much! I’d like to run my games at full resolution as well. What FPS is your PC able to run at tho? Have you experienced any nausea caused by low FPS? I’m a kind of person who simply go all-in for visual quality even if it costs good frame rate. I’m totally fine with low FPS (~40-ish) on flat screen since motion blur or v-sync usually helps a lot. But I wonder how it will affect my brain in VR. Have you ever experimented on this?I didn’t expect to get quick replies here. I’m so glad the community seems to be pretty active!

Lawrence1962ParticipantI own a Reverb G2 and i use it with the FrankenFOV Mod extrem and VR Optician lenses and it’s amazing ! Before i bought the Reverb G2 i had a Valve Index and was not sure if i will like the FOV, but with the mod and the lenses it’s fantastic ! The Pimax and the Valve Index have have a worse picture than the Reverb G2, and the Quest 2 has a softer and blurry 4k image and has the same image problems like a movie file which is worse encoded. Except the Varjo HMDs the Reverb G2 has the best image quality, but you have to set very high resolutions in the games to get the full experience. Since i got my Reverb G2 i never play games in lower resolutions than 2160p or 1920p. But not in 16:9, i prefer 4:3 or 5:4 aspect ratios and zoom into the image with vorpx, it’s better in the performance.
Important: The Reverb G2 V1 has big problems with AMD x570 and b550 Mainboards and even the controller tracking is not perfect, and there are a few more problems you have to know. I would advise you to buy the Reverb G2 V2 in a few weeks, which fixed all that issues. Have a look into the videos !

RalfKeymasterThe desktop viewer image isn’t mipmapped on purpose since that would make it more blurry, but changing the Clarity setting on the image page of the vorpX menu from low to medium will raise the final headset resolution as well as enable high quality Lanczos instead of bilinear sampling. That should do the trick.

vorpX 21.3.1 has been releasedEvery now and then it’s time for a bit of spring cleaning, occasionally even in late October. ;) That’s what this maintenance release is about: lots of annoyances and uncritical bugs fixed, also some minor improvements. Some things you may have noticed, others you probably haven’t. Reasonably complete changelog below:
Improved/Fixed
- Improved: Smarter profile merging during database updates.
- Improved: Minor config app layout modernization.
- Improved: Hooking conflict warning shown as overlay if hooking isn’t prevented.
- Improved: Revised DXGI hooking.
- Fixed: DirectVR scanner start via keyboard shortcut could fail (e.g. Borderlands 3).
- Fixed: Some settings in the vorpX menu didn’t update properly occasionally.
- Fixed: Resident Evil 2 FOV mod UI (and probably other mod UIs) weren’t visible.
- Fixed: User shader definitions for official profiles were removed during update.
- Fixed: Pixelated cinema/immersive screen with ‘Generic VR Headset’ device.
- Fixed: Installing hook helpers could fail occasionally if requiring admin rights.
- Fixed: DX12 settings weren’t handled correctly during database updates.
- Fixed: DX11: switching to/from highest Clarity could occasionally crash some games.
- Fixed: DX9: some vorpX UI elements drawn out of place under some circumstances.
- Fixed: vorpControl didn’t exit cleanly when switching from admin to non-admin.
- Fixed: Waiting for dialog confirmations wasn’t reliable under some circumstances.
- Various other small fixes/improvements and some internal refactoring.
Profile Changes/Fixes
- Quake 4: fix for blurry textures on modern GPUs added to DirectVR auto settings.
- Metro Exodus: a bunch of additional shadow shaders defined.
- Borderlands 3: More reliable hooking, DirectVR tracking added, defaults fixed.
- Fallout 4: hang on launch when run fullscreen in Generic 3D/headset mode.
- Elder Scrolls Online: HUD shader definition fixed for latest game version.

mr_spongeworthyParticipantThanks for the tips. I’ve been eying RDR2 for quite some time now, as it’s a title I’m sure I’ll enjoy.
I’ve glanced through the thread, but I’m not seeing your system specs? I have to push a ton of pixels to get the clarity I need (unfortunately for me I’m super-sensitive to blurry images. Show me a screen that isn’t sharp and unbidden by conscious thought my brain/eyes will continually attempt to bring it into focus, causing immense eye-strain. It’s bad enough that I can tell immediately if I walk into a theater that still uses the old 2K digital projectors, for example, as those look continually out-of-focus to me.)
I’ve found that through vorpX I have to push 2560×1440 as an absolute minimum (to my Pimax), with a full 4K being far preferred. I’m curious what GPU you are using in particular.
Thanks!

Zel1984ParticipantYeah fullscreen, has to be fullscreen or the game looks too blurry.
Already tried OBS to capture Oculus mirror but it did not record the picture only the sound.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Oct 13, 2021 at 5:26pm #206734Topic: Sharpening is confusing me
in forum General vorpX Discussion
SmoilsParticipantNew amd sharpening thing works and looks great, no doubt about it, but if I choose “Off” just out of curiosity it looks more like additional blur filter is added, not just sharpening removed.
The reason it is confusing is I dont remember games ever being THAT blurry before, so my question is about old system – there was “sharpening” parameter before, was it always on at a certain level as well? Is CAS approximately at the same sharpening level by default as old sharpening was?
Oct 7, 2021 at 10:36am #206637In reply to: Cyberpunk depth-map wonkiness
RalfKeymasterThe only setting I’m aware of that causes a garbled depth buffer is the game’s ‘Color Precision’ option, Which has to be set to ‘High’. vorpX handles that automatically though.
It also sets a bunch of other settings. If you happen to have disabled auto settings, please first and foremost re-enable that. Automatic settings can often be vital for a profile to work correrctly. With default settings (in FullVR mode) vorpX also disables stuff like motion blur etc. for example. Not unlikely that one of these settings also affects the depth buffer heuristics.
Also please reset the profile to default, just in case.
If that doesn’t help, it would be great if you could send me a trouble shoot data archive (config app/trouble shooting) and your CP2077 config file ([User]\AppData\Local\CD Projekt Red\\Cyberpunk 2077\UserSettings.json) to support at vorpX com.

mr_spongeworthyParticipantPersonally I think for CP2077 in FullVR mode 2400×1800 (DLSS at ‘Auto’, i.e. the game originally renders a res below that) is the sweet spot on a high end machine if you aren’t willing to dial down graphics detail and still want a crisp image. An RTX3080 is able to maintain almost stable 60fps that way incl. raytracing, so there even is a bit of headroom. With the clarity setting cranked up that looks quite good even on a headset with high pixel density (e.g. Reverb G2), on headsets with lower pixel density (e.g. Index/Rift S) it’s already borderline overkill.
I could probably do that if I didn’t need to turn Parallel Projections on with my Pimax for use with vorpX. Parallel Projection causes a huge overhead. Unfortunately I’m also super-sensitive to blurriness; just massively prefer an extremely crisp gaming environment. Im running a 3080 Ti (factory overclocked, so it runs right over 2GHz out of the box), but because I can see a huge difference, even in Virtual Cinema mode, between 2880×1620 and 3840×2160 in every title I send to my HMD through vorpX, it leaves me really struggling when it comes to performance in some titles. It’s just my unfortunate preference for sharpness getting in the way (well, plus the need for PP). I tell you what, CP2077 at 4K with DLSS at Balanced 64hz/32fps looks, well, it looks incredible (I moved back to CP2007 v1.23). It’s essentially unplayable at that low frame rate, but WOW, just WOW.
I’m very excited to try the FidelityFX enabled version when you release it. Even if it doesn’t help this particular usage scenario, I think it’s going to be great overall.

dellrifter22ParticipantThe sharpen filter is always the first thing I go to when opening a new profile. I often turn it to max 2.0, as I find it works really well for texture clarity on high resolution headsets, especially when pushing higher resolutions for Z3D. Frankly, I think at least some degree of sharpening should automatically be on by default. I think it might stem some complaints about blurry visuals.

RalfKeymasterIf you haven’t done so already, please first check the ‘Sharpen’ option in the vorpX menu (image page). That can help to reduce a good chunk of the slight blur that comes from the unavoidable rescaling of the game image vorpX has to perforam.
Apart from that: modern monitor games these days typically use antialiasing methods that are more blurry that good old multisampling antialiasing typically used in VR games.
If you actually consider that image not crisp enough, you might want to try turning off antialising in the game options altogether. However, turning off antialiasing will introduce ‘jaggies’, so you have to see what’s more important to you. Most people will probably opt for leaving AA on.
