Is it possible to use your VR motion controllers for movement? I made a profile for a flying game and I want to steer the ship with my motion controller, I don’t mean using the sticks I mean by physically moving them up, down left and right to steer, at the moment I am steering with my head, but I wondered if this is possible with the controller? I can’t find any options to do this in the settings, I am on the beta version.

I worked all yesterday to make Elden Ring work hook with vorpX. Ralph is my hero, the new Beta 23.0.1 manages to hook perfectly after renaming eldenring.exe to start_protected_game.exe. Extra props to dj1212 and MGSnake19 for their great cloud profiles. Steam loads my steam controller profile so does that mean that avoiding EAC breaks my steam controller? I would appreciate any work arounds because my God I am loving the 3D on this, but I have 100hrs into this with a steam controller so its hard to go back.

You can try using x360ce (https://www.x360ce.com/) software to emulate xbox controller from your steam controller

A little teaser for those who wanted some customization when using the virtual monitor. As a ‘normal’ user you won’t have to touch these settings at all since the virtual monitor comes with a huge list of resolutions predefined, but the tinkerers among you can now add even more. In a fairly easy and well thought out way, I might add, that doesn’t require more knowledge than having heard of things like ‘4K’ or ’16:9′, which probably almost everyone has.

On a sidenote: a highly curved 32:9 desktop that surrounds your head clearly isn’t what vorpX is primarily made for, but it *almost* makes working in VR have some actual advantages over a real (even ultrawide) monitor setup. Tried that for quite a while yesterday.

Uh, and I added gestures to Aliens: Colonial Marines yesterday. One of the games that all of a sudden start to feel almost like a native VR game by adding a bunch of motion controller gestures. If you never touched the game because it had a somewhat bumpy start when it came out, try it with the next vorpX beta and motion controls. Straight forward sci-fi shooter that works very well in VR. Can be played standing with full 6DOF tracking, but even seated it’s almost uncanny how much a few basic gestures can add to immersion.

I bought Vorpx a few days ago and have been unsuccessful in getting anything to work. Troubleshooting says “is vorpX Control running?” I’m going to say no? When I use the Start vorpX desktop shortcut I get a window saying it is already running. I do not see any vorpX app in my taksbar, which I believe should be there if it was indeed running. I do not have any virus software running other than what is configured by default in Windows 11 virus defender. I do not have any other programs running, and I have disabled the Steam FPS software which is supposed to be a no no.
The Desktop Viewer app briefly opens a small black window and goes away. The only interface/menu I can ever use is the Configure vorpX. Is this the only real interface you see other than the in game menu you get when hitting Del? I can’t seem to get that far.

I’ve individually downloaded and run each of the cloud profiles for Stray, which I really wanted to try first. I’m currently using a Quest2 with Virtual Desktop. Is this a problem? I run VD, start Steam VR, view the desktop and start Stray from within Steam. I get the initial popup saying VR isn’t supported and hit OK run it anyway. I then get the message “the map cannot be found. Exiting”. I’ve tried a few other games that are within the local profiles list and essentially nothing happens.

I can’t seem to find a path within vorpX configuration to uninstall the whole schnitzel.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

if you see an ‘Image Zoom’ setting currently, you probably have set the ‘Play Style’ option to ‘Full VR’, immersive screen size/distance/etc. controls belong to the ‘Immersive Screen’ play style.

That is a shame about the defective Pico 4 headset, I think you might have liked what they can do if it worked. Don’t get me wrong, they are not without fault but still, they are a really great alternative to the Quest 2. In fact, from what I’ve heard the render quality is better than the Quest Pro.

In regard to the G2, yeah that is essentially what I heard from elsewhere too. It is a shame because they look like a very good wired option, some flight sim enthusiasts are buying multiple units when they pop up on eBay, that is a big stamp of approval. I think the controller disappearing might be a SteamVR problem. I’ve been getting several issues where the game glitches then SteamVR goes into a weird state. If it happens again try killing SteamVR from the task bar, then open Task Manager if you see SteamVR in the process list kill it from there too.

I had a Pico 4 beside my G2, but sent P4 back the next day. It had bad distortions in the middle of the lenses (faulty production run), very noticeable screendoor effect, really bad lens glare and the screens looked dark with completely crushed blacks and choked whites. I doubt that i had multiple defects at the same time, the product was unopened. Very bad experience.

The G2 tracking seems OK from the reviews. Haven’t used the HMD for anything else than vorpX yet, and i’m playing sitting with a gamepad. Though i have to say that if you are letting your arms hang by the sides while you play without moving them for a longer time, the cameras can’t see the controllers and lose the tracking. Worse, when the tracking is lost, the controllers don’t react to button presses anymore. Could be a vorpX thing, didn’t notice anything like this in my short SkyrimVR test.

@Ralf The mod you are looking for is Gervant First Person and it is absolutely brilliant. Full control over when you are in 1st v.s. 3rd person by context. Witcher 3 has animation issues with first person combat unless you run something that greatly slow game-time, for example, so if you prefer you can simply have GFP switch to 3rd person for combat. It has FOV controls, animation controls, a VR mode that hides your body if you prefer when in 1st person. It’s a very long list of features and all of them work pretty darn well.

IMHO you should start with that mod as a baseline for anything you do that’s Witcher 3 + vorpX related because that mod has already done a LOT of the work that you would otherwise need to do. I’ll certainly never play Witcher 3 without it (well, unless you implemented an entire set of similar features through vorpX, but that sounds like a huge amount of work.)

Unfortunately Witcher 3 (DX12 mode) is not currently supported through vorpX so I’m not able to say how well GFP plays with vorpX. Hoping an future vorpX release will work.

The mod that comes with the profile only does 3D and FOV currently. The camera controls aren’t changed at all, hence moving your head feels kind of weird. Unfortunately the Witcher 3 camera is implemented in a way that makes converting it into something that works well in VR via the game’s scripting language a major PITA.

There is a first person mod for the game though that you can download from nexusmods. I haven’t tried it myself, but reportedly it works together with the profile’s 3D/FOV mod. Alternatively you can switch to immersive screen mode in the vorpX menu.

Great that HL1 got the raytracing treatment, sure worth tinkering around with.

BUT: if you actually want to play Half-Life, play Black Mesa: Source with vorpX instead. Half-Life was great at the time for sure, but Black Mesa is the better game in every imaginable way. Incidentally also one of the highend vorpX profiles with DirectVR support at its fullest extent. And it actually looks better than the raytraced HL1 (way better models and textures) while being 10x faster.

Pretty much a close to native VR experience, and even better if you add two or three shooting related controller gestures with the latest vorpX beta.

Thanks Ralf, already experienced that awesome game in awesome Vorpx Vr

Just in case you aren’t aware, there’s a good VR mod for HL1 with full VR and motion controllers, available on Steam. I’m playing through it now, and I realized that I never played HL1, I started back in the day with HL2. A lot of things make more sense now, go figure.

I love vorpX but I think a dedicated mod is even better. Anyway, I realize that none of this answers your ray-traced question. :)

Thanks, I know of it, tried both on quest and steam, but Ive played hl1 before and ray tracing is more refreshing than full vr mod for me to muster a will to try it again.

Ah, never mind, i found it! I disabled headtracking, and then disabled “override x-box gamepad” (or some such). Now i got back my gamepad right stick, and some of the controls of The Witcher 3, exclusive to the right stick, are finally accessible.

This solves one of my biggest gripes with vorpX: that i couldn’t use my gamepad natively. But i was wrong, obviously.

I hope that someday we’ll get a full documentation, with every single setting properly explained. That would prevent much confusion. :)

I just saw a Paradise Decay video about God Of War in vorpX, and he explained that he disabled head tracking (=mouse) in vorpX settings to get the DualSense controller to work.

I expected that the screen will be locked to his vision, but he still could move his head in front of the Immersive Screen.

That tells me (contrary to my beliefs) that mouse-based headtracking is only used inside the game, but not for the looking around in front of the Immersive Screen (can’t word it better, sorry).

If this is true: where is this setting located in the in-game menu? I remember trying to disable mouse in the past for playing with gamepad, but that locked the screen to my head!
