The industry is generally GARBAGE and too scared to try other formulas let alone trying something rather NEW and so we have dozens of GTAs, hundreds of CODs, thousands of FAR CRYs, millions of ASSASSINS CREEDs and billions of PUBGs.

The big/huge games companies are like this yes (Ubisoft, Bethesda, RockStar EA) but we have loads of great titles coming out too. These big companies don’t consider games as art, they don’t make to be fun, they make games that tick the most money-making boxes which formula will be the easiest to digest for most people.

Also, people always complain about UBI, but what is actually ROCKSTAR doing so great, besides releasing “GTA Games” every couple of years while improving graphics but sadly not the games, so then you have an open world game with great graphics but repetitive and boring gameplay.

Ubisoft are on a whole new level though. All Ubisoft open-world games are copied/pasted with terrible cohesiveness. They don’t introduce enough mechanics or variations of the same mechanic to fill an open world. FC6 is a perfect example, every single roadblock is exactly the same, the same number of guards, the same patrol routes, the same buildings, and the same rewards. The only difference is that the level designers just rotate the model slightly. RockStar at least put some effort into the filler content, I’m sure Ubisoft just pick the first 3 mechanics they like and then say stick 50 of those into the world, 100 of those, 30 of those. Done – ship it!

A good example of an open world done right (although not without some repetitiveness) would be Horizon (ZD & FW), and my personal favourite Days Gone. The world in Days Gone was much smaller than FC6 but each base was designed specifically for the location it is placed, FC6 just flattens the terrain and plonks the generic base there.

Ubisoft arent just repeating the formula, they are taking the formula and stretching it out to four times its sustainable size, then filling the gaps with repetitive garbage. The world would be better without them IMO.

    Regarding RDRII

You know, I really appreciated the visuals of that game, the detail of the environment, the thought they put into every single area. However, I could never get into it, it just didn’t click for me. I felt no connection to any of the characters except the horse, I finished because I wanted to finish what I had started, but after the first 4/5 hours I played only the main missions just so it would end sooner.

So INDIES are our only hope, forget those AAA franchises and companies, those titles take 180 hours to complete with 100%, but are actually fun for approx. 3 hours.

Again, I will agree with what you say here. The only difference for me is that sometimes I just want more of the same. If a game style clicks with me I want more of it. Obviously, I would like to see advancements in that formula such as better AI, better branching stories, and so on and so forth. Perhaps a procedural generation algorithm which can produce a meaningful world that can also contain an actual story, I mean we have AI that can produce a fairly decent short story now, surely we can integrate something like that to give us more gameplay in the same world/universe.

    Ubisoft garbage.

Then you have to either look for a different hobby or do it like myself: Having dozens of games installed and switching between titles every couple of days, to have at least some variety.

The industry is generally GARBAGE and too scared to try other formulas let alone trying something rather NEW and so we have dozens of GTAs, hundreds of CODs, thousands of FAR CRYs, millions of ASSASSINS CREEDs and billions of PUBGs.

Did i already mention all the REMAKES and REMASTERS these days?

Also, people always complain about UBI, but what is actually ROCKSTAR doing so great, besides releasing “GTA Games” every couple of years while improving graphics but sadly not the games, so then you have an open world game with great graphics but repetitive and boring gameplay. And yes, GTA V did something new and interesting with its 3-character-switching on the fly, but the missions were the same as boring and repetitive as GTA IV.

The last ROCKSTAR games i really had fun with was every GTA title besides GTA IV and V. RDRII wasn´t a game, it was a lame horse riding simulator with a better story and better characters than the actual game itself. But people obviously forgot about what “playing a game” actually means.

Regarding RDRII, thanks to VORPX i can really enjoy the title and also have fun with it while i can really say “great experience”, but without VORPX, i wouldn´t even bother with it.

Times when devs made videogames because they can make a living with doing what they love doing the most, are over. Today they make videogames to make lots of money and there is no time to bother with “new” stuff let alone someone would risk something, that are indie devs who actually try risky stuff.

So INDIES are our only hope, forget those AAA franchises and companies, those titles take 180 hours to complete with 100%, but are actually fun for approx. 3 hours.

Does anyone know why some games start up well with Vorpx Viewer and some instant crash?
Outriders, Far Cry 5, 6, New Dwan, even Star Trek Battlefields 2 – all run perfectly on start up,
on the other hand MARVELS Avengers, Control, Quantum Break straight away crash with the Vorpx Viewer running.
No idea why.. cant really be the 3D engine as Tomb Raider runs great with the Vorpx Viewer but Marvels Avengers crashes, both run same engine..

Anyone has an idea or tip how to bypass those crashes on start up?

yeah! for some reason Virtual Desktop is going downhill for me with my Quest 2. Hardly any game starts and frankly it starts to suck big time, hence I am now all in in the Vorpx Desktop viewer – which is great especially with the ambience background, but you can choose any including Cinema and all. The Input you select in the menu itself when you press the DEL button. Change from normal to SBS and thats all she wrote!

For example in Far Cry New Dawn I had to set the FPS limited as it was really poor but Far Cry 6 and 5 run very well on low to mid settings. Need to test whats best on your machine.

I launch the game itself and once its launched I launch the Vorpx View with the VR controller on my dashboard, I find this the easiest way vs the Win button or ALT TAB.

What is strange that some games play straight up (outriders, Far cry even Star Wars Battlefield II), some on the other hand clash and crash straight away like MARVELS Avengers, Control and Quantum Break. No idea why..

After i downloaded Vorpx, I noticed my reticle being higher (centered but higher) than its suppose to. when i shoot my weapon the reticle has to be higher then normal to hit someone. the reticle is white when not on an enemy but turns red, when on an enemy. well when i put my reticle on an enemy, it remains white until i raise it up about 5 inches or so, idk why it is doing this, i uninstalled several times, and i have done a CLEAN uninstall of a drivers and clean install. i even tried it on Normal flat screen to see if it was the VR giving me issues, well no its still does it on flatscreen.

I would call dx12 functionality very limited right now. We only have a handful of official dx12 profiles to try from, which makes it risky to pick up any new games at full price.

I for example wanted to play AC Valhalla and Far Cry 6, but no existing dx12 profile provided working Z3D, only flat. I have stopped buying new because of this.

G3D (true 3D) is not even coded for dx12 yet. Only about 3 specific dx12 games have specialized mods for alternate eye rendering to imitate G3D visuals.

So if you’re lucky, Metro Enhanced with ray tracing and Z3D is possible yes (3D enough to convince your brain that the general scene has depth and space), but if not lucky, you’ll see only a flat image.

One more thing to note is that you will need to push high resolutions to gain a satisfactory image in a vr headset, so make sure your pc can run the game at least 50+fps @ 4k+ with ray tracing on.

Not trying to discourage you, just being realistic. You might have luck with some games, and you might not with others.

Did you change to a 4:3 res? has to be exactly 4:3 for Portal 2 and other games based on the same engine (e.g. Half-Life 2 or Black Mesa). Viable resolutions would e.g. be 1600×1200, 1920×1440 or 2560×1920.

On a sidenote: Watched your Far Cry video earlier and noticed that you changed the aspect to ‘Letterbox’. While that is highly useful when vorpX can’t handle FOV automatically, it’s not necessary in games where vorpX adjusts the FOV. Whenever a profile supports automatic FOV, vorpX computes an FOV that perfectly fits your headset FOV regardless of settings in the menu.

The only reason to prefer ‘Letterbox’ with automatic FOV handling would be getting a crisper image, which of course can be a good reason too.

Just a guess, but I wouldn’t rule out that in case of Portal 2 that may introduce flicker.

    My Initial Impressions:
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING in VR and one of my FAVOURITE Far Cry games!
    * Full VR Mode
    * Play with Mouse/Keyboard or a Gamepad.
    * Geometry 3D 5/5
(If you recently played and enjoyed Cyberpunk 2077 in VR with the VorpX standalone mod, you’ll LOVE this, its just as good and plays the same!)

Ghost Recon Wildlands + FPS mod (G3D) cloud profile updated 2/5/2022

-clouds, stars, water reflections, and light sources are now correct in stereo (nice!)
-increased 3D strength for more accurate depth and scale
-decreased image zoom a bit for improved image clarity and FOV (better with vehicles)
-TAA motion blur effect now assigned to vorpX Shadow Treatment for toggle options:

Auto = motion blur on static objects/furniture, but clear guns and moving vehicles/NPCs
Turn Off = motion blur on guns and moving vehicles/NPCs, but clear static objects

Or if the slight TAA blur bothers you altogether, you can try the other AA methods in Game Options to see which you prefer.

I have been quite pleased with how the authoring tool (and a bit of patience) has been able to bring this profile together with near flawless G3D. It is very rare that a dx11 game has correct stereo shadows and lighting effects. Now all that remains to fix are decals for wall art and bullet holes (if those are even possible, I’ve always struggled with decals..Ralf?)

Anyway, worth trying out with the mod if you own Wildlands. I prefer the stealthy approach, but as you can see here, it can now play like a Far Cry game if you want:

p.s. oh, I get a crash sometimes when trying to access my loadout menu directly, but I’ve found if I indirectly access it by opening the skills menu first (press J), I can navigate to loadout from there okay.

Want to add that “OpenXR session init failed” popup will still occur on some apps that used to work (Far Cry 5 / mpc-hc) since roughly the last quarter of November 2021. OpenXR is used by mixed reality portal and SteamVR also confirms OpenXR is being used.

The only way to run those apps is to set VorpX to use SteamVR.

    Using samsung odyssey wmr headset,

Thank you for the info, Ralf! Any ideas re my original question, i.e., what I could try to get both inputs back? It used to work, stopped working between two game starts yesterday. Like I said, I tried restarting everything, deleting and reloading the game profile from the cloud, etc.

    > Natively gamepad input usually handles walk/run in an analog way,
    > i.e. there is no hard switch between walking and running

I don’t think that’s true at all. Most modern 1st-person games (Cyberpunk 2077, the Far Cry series, Rage, Wolfenstein TNO + TNC, etc.) have standardized gamepad controls: RT for shooting, RSTICK for looking, LSTICK for walking, A for jumping, B for crouching, X for using / picking up stuff / reloading. Beyond that, there may be differences, but these seem to be set in stone. Sprinting / running is *always* done via pressing and moving the LSTICK, i.e., there *is* a hard switch.

    Check out the following links:

    > With the override walk/run (obviously) works like keyboard walk/run with two distinct velocities.
It’s not about having a gradual buildup in speed (Wolfenstein has none, and neither does Cyberpunk), it’s about how you switch between the two velocities. The native mapping makes me press the LSTICK for that; Vorpx’s override messes it up and starts analyzing how far I’ve moved the LSTICK. It doesn’t seem to allow me to get the switch back. I have to be very careful when touching the LSTICK lest the guy start sprinting like crazy.

I see there are already some mods on Nexus to increase/customize both weapon viewmodel fov and driving in vehicles fov. These were the 2 main issues preventing an ideal FullVR mode experience in FC4&5.

If we can get some Z3D, this might be a good Far Cry to pick up. And no anti-cheat yet as far as I can tell.

    My Setup:

    Reverb G2
    RTX 3080
    Ryzen 7 2700x
    16GB Ram
    Evo 970

I want to buy a new CPU and new Ram. This PC is for Vorpx only and will not be used for other things.

I want to play Singleplayer Open World Games like Far Cry 6 and Dying Light 2 in 4K and preferably in Ultra settings.

Are a Ryzen 9 5900x and 32GB Ram too waste for vorpx only ?

    Or are a Ryzen 7 5800x and 16GB Ram a good setup with a RTX 3080 and a Reverb G2 ?
