I tryed using it with vorpx but so far, my best luck was using VLC with movies (still havn’t understood how I managed that but it worked fine).
Couldn’t start any game with it so far. I will try more..
To be known, to use it with steam, you need their driver app to run but you stop the compositor to leave this job to steam vr.
From what I understood, vorpx use it’s own compositor, right ?
So how should it work to prevent conflicting compositor running at the same time ?
Let’s say I want to start “Warhammer, end of time : vermintide”, so I start the vorpx application.. then double clic the application vermintide in steam.. in some case I have an error at launch, sometime it start but nothing happen.
It start steam vrcompositor.exe , vrdashboard.exe, and vrserver.exe from what I can see.
I could not use the desktop viewer also (say it’s already started but nothing happen).
I have a triple screen setting, maybe it’s causing problem I don’t know, only application I could use with vorpx was videolan (VLC).
Any help would be welcome here.
Argh.. it has stopped working again… ;( There is definitly somethig wrong here. Now I can’t get it to activate, even with resetting options and restarting the game. Yesterday it worked fine. We need a fix for this.
I don’t know you, so please forgive me if I misinterpret your message and if I tell you common knowledge here:
VR with 3D geometry and headtracking is great. But since the release of Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Playstation VR it can do better.
Positional tracking “knows” where you are currently positioned in the room. It’s the thing that distinguishs computer generated 3D graphics from filmed 3D graphics. You can easy see the difference if you try to get close to whatever you see just by moving your head. Graphics with 3D geometry and 360 headtracking only, will always stay at the same distance when you move your head, while “real” VR with positional tracking will let you approach and even go around it … That’s a huge advantage over VR as it was 20 years ago. It is the thing that makes your brain belief, your there more than anything of this kind before.
90% of all VR content today has positional tracking. Also Resident Evil 7 on Playstation VR. So this is currently still standing between VorpX and the original release of Capcom on PS4.
I am still unable to get Vorpx to work with Farcry 3. I have tried running it in DX9, mode but the Oculus headset just says that “Farcry.exe is taking a while to load”, even though it is running perfectly well on my monitor.
Has anyone been able to find a solution to this?
Okay, so I have the latest vorpx but cannot play any of the games within my HTC VIVE headset. Nothing happens and I am even using the prebuilt profiles… games always launch on desktop, never anything in the HMD.
I cant even get the damn game to launch or many others for that matter. New to vorpx and not having any luck with ANYTHING.
Hi Ralf,
First, thank you for the update. Even though you don’t mention it in release notes, with this release I am getting better framerate in rFactor 2.
However, after update, I have a problem with program called JoyToKey. This program allows to map various keyboard/mouse functions to joystick. I have Shift+Scroll Up/Shift+Scroll Down mapped to my steering wheel buttons. However, after update vorpX does not respond to that anymore. In addition, Zoom in/zoom out functionality is not configurable, say I can’t map it to anything else but Shift+Scroll. Any ideas how to fix this? I am speculating here, but it is almost like this functionality depends on installation order (like what app handles input first).
This problem really kills my experience, because my usual workflow is zoom out in menu or during pit menu selection, and zoom in during driving. Now I need to reach for mouse AND keyboard (!!!) to zoom in/out.
Thanks in advance.
@aerowyn,
I definitely understand that for some people thats a requirement.
I don’t know if my 2 decades+ of playing with kb+mouse or what, but I can easily get just as immersed that way. My brain doesn’t even notice what’s moving my vision- my head or my mouse.
I think a lot of people would feel the same way, but most people just want Full VR mode without looking back or trying other “lesser” options.
To each their own. I’ll definitely keep trying different modes with various games, but especially for anything with shooting involved, I love cinema mode.
Thanks Ralf, I’ll give it a try.
The things like about Cinema mode however, are that you can run it at higher resolution (You dont need to maintain the super high framerate for head movement), and that for shooting, you get to use the mouse aiming, not head aiming. Much more accurate and feels better. (for me anyways)
And it really feels much the same, immersive-wise.
i don’t find cinema mode even close to as immersive.. main thing is quick turning your head you see the side of the screen in cinema no matter how much you zoom it in.. i like to play standing with 360 controller and non cinema mode is way more immersive then trying in cinema mode for me
Hi!
I am having trouble getting Vorpx to hook into a non-steam version of Outlast 2 using my HTC vive.
I can get Vorpx to run fine with Outlast 1 and Portal 2 when launched through steam, but any non-steam game doesnt seem to work.
What might I be doing wrong?
I have SteamVR open and I have even tried to create a desktop shortcut through Vorpx, but every time I open the game (shortcut or not) it just launches normally on my main monitor? (sound in the HTC vive headset though – dont know if that means anything).
I have tried unplugging monitors so I only have 1 and my htc vive, but it doesnt work. It seems it is only non-steam games I have a problem with.
Hope you can help! Please ask if there is any more information you need to give an educated guess as to what might be going wrong.
Best,
Thomas T
The vids crap sorry. Way too long and still doesn’t solve the issue lol you have to set your in-gane FOV to something like 120 or greater. Then the view pulls back and your not as zoomed in making them “smaller”. The scale DOES NOT change just the view get pulled back and opened up. The issue people have is you can have your FOV set to 120 and yet your hands are still zoomed in, simply re-set you FOV back to 120 and it will zoom out your hands. The scale of the hands can only be changed with mods like race menu. You can adjust the weight down to slim them up but if you want “shorter” arms/fingers you’ll have to edit bones. The new version I think you have to compile your own sliders to be used with it. Could be why some options are missing. I was going to dig into it but pulling the FOV back to 120ish is good enough. Also the hands FOV resets from time to time and may require resetting multiple time during game play. Even if the FOV doesn’t seem to change the hands can re zoom so just reset FOV. Also try to remember that the people in Skyrim aren’t exactly realistic so if the hands and arms are a lot bigger then yours just go work out IRL ;)
Well I have now almost given up with this :(
I cannot for the life in me get F1 2014 (steam Version) working with my vive and VorpX. it works perfectly with steam Theater and open track. But everytime I try with VorpX I cannot even start the game.
I have disabled steam theater mode
is this even possible to get working on the Vive???
Hurry guys! Here’s your lighters everyone, go set your hair on fire! Just run around bashing your head on everything you find because of an issue you haven’t even had yet. Lets just ignore the answers to our questions and just go straight into freaking out about NOTHING. You’re ALL going to be ok. You wont get screwed out of anything. Maybe next time when you ask a question and then it gets answered you should LISTEN to what the person has to say… Or just ignore it and continue bashing your forehead on your keyboard. I have had to install several times and it’s no issue to sort it out just like Ralph mentioned. Relax.
I’ve followed every guide I can find, but even at 1280×1024 I get constant stuttering in-game. I’m using a GTX 1070, and I’ve watched people on YT play it just fine with less.
Any ideas?
I spent weeks last year configuring Halo CE for the Vive, only to somehow lose the install. So I’ve been trying to duplicate it, but can’t get an image that isn’t warped. Even with the official cloud profile imported. Is there a specific resolution I should be setting it at?
