@ nieda : Far Cry 5 is unlikely to happen. The game uses anti cheat software that prevents vorpX from hooking into it. Unfortunately they don’t reply to inquiries about whitelisting. Whithout even being able to talk to someone there is not much I can do.

@ dellrifter : IIRC I implemeted that option sometime last year on someone’s request (maybe yours?).

You have to restart the game though after changing it. Once the ALT key is added to the blocked keys list, it doesn’t get removed when you change the option. On next start however it won’t be added to that list in the first place, so a restart should do the trick.

Admittedly not exactly ideal, I will change that in the next update to make it more intuitive.

I did not even dare to ask for Gothic 1+2 in the request thread since they are so old… this would be perfect!!

Unfortunately I couldn’t get them to work with VorpX so far (couldn’t attach). Only when the D3D11 renderer for Gothic 2 was installed VorpX could hook into in, but 3D didn’t work then.

I have a couple of mods installed to get G1/2 running for Windows 10. Did you use any mods when testing Gothic 1 /2 (I suppose so, otherwise it probably wouldn’t work with Windows 10…) and if so, which ones? Which versions did you use?

    Thanks!

This should be addressed in the next vorpX version 18.2.0.

I’m not 100% certain since the issue was semi-random, but I was able to get past a notoriously crashy section in the game more than a dozen times now without a single crash, so it’s very likely fixed.

Feedback welcome after vorpX 18.2.0 is released (no date yet though).

    Hi Ralf,

I’ve been keeping an eye on this thread because I too have found Bioshock 2 to be an issue, even though Bioshock 1 worked very well in DirectVR.

For me too, Bioshock 2 on Steam crashes frequently, even with 18.2.2 release 26th May 2018 in DirectVR mode. I can reach points on the first level when it will crash each time (when you first enter the sea), then during Ryan Amusements stepping off the train at the start on the 3rd level. I can play normally outside of VR in standard monitor mode to get past a crashing moment so I know it isn’t the game itself, but it happens so frequently and instantly it makes i impossible to continue in VR. It can also crash when trying to save progress, so it seems this Unreal Engine title is particularly unstable compared to Bioshock 1!

I’ve tried updating my nVidia 1080 to the latest drivers (they were only a couple of months out of date anyway), turned off all graphics options in the GUI, changed resolutions and have been through most relevant VorpX options in its GUI too, but no progress.

Are you able to try Bioshock yourself to see if it happens to you too- for me, it will crash from game start within 10 minutes of gameplay on that first level alone.

    and yes, i tried everything.

I had some trouble starting up ESO, every time I tried to switch to immersive or cinema, the game would lock up and crash. Eventually I loaded up vorpx config, paged through some settings (didn’t change anything) and clicked save, and now the game works fine.

I am very impressed how well G3D works! Very little that is wonky…lighting, water, spells all work fine. Shadows are a little janky, but that is to be expected.

The height of your character very much matters…unfortunately my main is too tall.
With the default settings, the UI interaction and cursor lines up very well with the 3D plane, and it feels good. However, I didn’t think the 3D effects were enough. I bumped G3D up to 1.50 instead of 1, and that helped immensely.

There are two mods I advise you to get, that immediately made the game better for me:
The first one is Immersive Horse Riding. This mod lets you ride your horse in 1st person mode instead of forcing 3rd person. It is very lightweight with no further settings/interaction required..it just works.

The second mod is Free Dialog Camera, which doesn’t force the game to zoom your camera up to whoever you’re talking to. This is important because when the game zooms the camera in, most of the 3D-ness of who you’re talking to is lost, and you’re looking at a warped perspective. This mod properly keeps things in perspective, yet brings up the dialog interaction system as normal.
The only thing you need to fix (compatibility kinda broke) is to go to your ESO document folder->live->addons->FreeDialogCamera and modify the .lua file (can open with notepad) to change 1 line. Change ZO_ItemPreview_Shared.IsInteractionCameraPreviewEnabled = IsInPreviewMode to ZO_ItemPreview_Shared.IsInteractionCameraPreviewEnabled = GetPreviewModeEnabled and that’s it.

    Anyways, happy questing!

    Thanks for the info Ralf.

I have encountered another error, dont want to open another thread.

When using MPC-HC (64) and pressing DEL, vorpX goes OFF and the Player asks me if i want to delete that media file. – Configuring the VorpX menu key to any other key raises the same problem. It appears that vorpX somehow sends “DEL” to MPC-HC even a different key has bee assigned.
I found a .reg in the vorpX backup folder, using that didnt help. The player wont show up in the HMD at all.

Removing the settings completely in the registry let me start the player but i cant get into the settings because of the problem described above.

Reading Exception of Data Base when trying to get any local or Cloud profiles.. I have no profiles.

Not meaning to sound impatient here I just went through the nightmare of WIndows 10 and WMR, my first experience with things that don’t work and the infamous Windows 10 quote “Something went wrong”… The Horror lasted 4 months and costed me several hundred bucks in buying new components even though WMR check said rated my computer as Ultra for VR. WMR Ended up in the trash can.

Happy to report the VIVE Works great… like night and day… rock solid with Steam VR. I was expecting VORPX to be the same but so far it is feeling like a rewind back to the WMR days.

Any help appreciated, not sure if I just caught the service on a bad day or what. I am getting “Reading Exception of Database” and a “trying to attach to VR Helper” windows .. many of them.

    Thanks

I’m trying to get vorpx to work as the mouse in warframe. That is, I want the camera to control where the warframe is looking (not control the camera). I seem to have this working by turning on head tracking. But I have two problems I can’t seem to overcome:

    1) extremely high sensitivity
Even when I turn down the sensitivity of each axis, it is still extremely sensitive.

    2)cannot interact with the menu
although i can interact with the vorpx menu, the warframe menu won’t work. If I bring it up (hit esc) I can neither click on any of the menu options nor use the keyboard to interact with it.

Has anyone got experience with warframe and vorpx who could help out?

I’ve read that some versions of Piplay have some sort of magnetic calibration setting for the gyros, but I still only use the old 1.1.92 and have never run said calibrations. You say other vr apps work fine though, so maybe it is some conflict with a gamepad or other connected USB device as Ralf mentions.

Another way to test without positional tracking and directvr in games would be to checkbox “Never change any game settings” in the vorpX Congig.

    ————————————————–
Side notes from my pimax experience…

I still use 1.1.92 as it gives a satisfactory image quality without any super-sampling or performance hit. I haven’t personally needed any IPD adjustment (offered in later versions), and therefore have not felt the need to test more recent Piplays. There are a couple minor inconveniences to consider though:

When I first installed 1.1.92 I got the “Pimax disconnected” loop, but was able to solve that somehow by right clicking piplay in the system tray and setting it to Pimax mode and/or uninstalling/reinstalling it’s drivers in device manager. Now I no longer get this problem.

By default the display is very dark. There are two settings I must adjust in piplay everytime I plug the pimax:

    -First turn on “Cool colors”.
-Then enter the max brightness code 10033036 into the debug tool.

(I could skip these steps and jump directly into steamvr without piplay, but to get desired colors I must do this every session) Also note, piplay will prompt you to reconnect the USB after each step, but I’ve found that unnecessary.

After each session I unplug the pimax USB to power off it’s display. Otherwise, when my PC is off, the screen stays on – full grey.

Audio usually gets passed through with vorpX as intended, but if it ever fails, simply set Pimax as the default sound device in windows Playback Devices.

Due to having only gyro sensors, Pimax4k struggles with drift. Not so severe as you describe, but a very slow panning to one side or the other. to combat this I have dedicated my Q key as recenter hotkey for vorpX. I now subconsciously spam Q every half minute or so as needed. This only applies when playing in immersive/cinema modes, as playing fullvr will center lock the display. For most games however I choose to play immersive cinema to relieve FOV constraints.

If you want to increase the visual quality/clarity of games in vorpX, learn to use higher custom resolutions rather than antialiasing or supersampling via steamvr. vorpX can handle virtually any resolution you throw at it. In some games I go as high as 4224 x 2640 and still see subtle improvement in the pimax. Sure it’s still downsampling to 1440p input to then be upscaled to 4k by the pimax, but I still see improvement.

I have created 20+ custom resolutions with Nvidia Control in incremental steps from 1080p to beyond 4k of various aspect ratios. Now I can use which ever works best performance-wise on a game by game basis.

Also try changing the vorpX ingame setting “Crystal Image” to Aggressive and see how it looks. Sometimes Aggressive looks good, sometimes Normal is better. I also prefer to slide the Sharpness setting all the way up. This will drastically increase clarity from default. Increase the brightness and color saturation as well to improve the duller display of the pimax.

Anyway, I’m starting to get carried away here. Just wanted to assure you that you can get a decent experience out of vorpX with a pimax4k, even if it can be a bit tricky. Hope you can get the tracking issue sorted. Perhaps the Pimax forums can further help.

    Jet Simulator (G3D)

This is a re-release of the 2005 Jet Simulator ISBN: 4019393963836 (english). Dont get confused by “microsoft” printed on the package, it probably has nothing to do with microsoft. The game is also known as “Global War on Terror: Death Strike”.

-The cloud profile is using Geometry / Cinema Mode
-if you wish to connect headtracking to plane movement, switch to Full VR
-game stores resolution in crypted file, so you cant get more then 1024×768 out of it
-some parts of HUD are out of depth depending on 3D Strength, if that doesnt annoy you, you can gain 3D strength even further .

Ok so I’ve fiddled around quite a bit with different profiles and still not too much luck. I am getting what seems like some games to attach properly however they will not render anything in the headset and my steam vr shows “monitor and headset plugged into different graphics cards” or something to that nature. When in game the headset is working with tracking, the mouse appears in the center of my field of view on the monitor and works very smoothly, but inside the headset display theres nothing. Only the steam vr waiting room and no game or window of a game at all. Delete here doesnt bring up the vorpx control either. But again, i can move the headset to be pointing at options on the screen and click with the mouse and that is working. I’ve yet to get a game boot together with head tracking and rendering inside of the headset, is there a way around this “plugged into wrong card” error in steam vr? I only have the 1 gpu and both the monitor and headset are plugged in with hdmi.

I just want to add I am very patient, I understand it can take time to get this working properly and if I can even get one game working
close to intended it will be very worth it for me. I appreciate your help!

In general vorpX works with every headset that supports either the Oculus runtime or Steam VR. Pimax 4K and Windows MR are known to work fine and are used by quite a few users.

Can’t say much about the Pimax 8k yet. 200 degrees are technically impossible with a single “camera” as used in current “flat game” rendering though. The theoretical maximum is 180, the more reasonable max. FOV you should assume with vorpX is 140-150, provided games allow FOVs that high.

The maximum resolution is only limited by your PCs performance, that has always been the case with vorpX.

Maybe the virtual screen mode can be zoomed in enough to cover most of the peripheral? I’m a backer so I’m supposed to be getting one within the next couple of months or so, will be interesting to see how the Pimax 8k will upscale VorpX enabled games. I’m happy enough to know that it’s possible that it may function at all since I don’t play too many actual VR games anyway.

The pimax has real good user ratings as far i can read from the internet, but i fear that headtracking and controllers would not be good as with the vive/oculus.

I know it uses the Vive 2.0 tracking system so it should be virtually the same. The controllers are still in design but they are knuckle based with sensors for each finger so you can open hand but I’m sure the game has to support it first. Or you can of course just use the Vive wands instead but I don’t think they are sold separately which is a shame.
Controllers won’t release until end of year anyway. I don’t even have the Touch controllers for my Rift so I’m hoping I can get by somehow without them.

For obvious legal reasons I can’t create profiles that require a hacked game version even if that might be technically possible, sorry.

Try to contact EAC using the above options. I didn’t get a response so far, but they whitelisted several streaming/recording apps, so there may be a chance that they listen if more people contact them about vorpX.

Game specific profiles are vital for vorpX to work. That has nothing to do with vorpX “not being perfect”. Every 3D driver requires profiles for games, and that is even more true for the advanced features like Direct VR. You can’t just open an unsupported game and expect it to work like one that has a full profile with all possible features enabled, which can take many hours to make for a single game.

If you want to create a custom profile for an unsupported game, you should find out which 3d-engine the game uses and then check whether vorpX already supports another game based on the same engine. Using that as a base grants the best chance of success. After making a copy of an existing profile, assign the main .exe of the game you want to try to the copied profile.

There never is a guarantee though that an user profile works, every game is different. Also keep in mind that user profiles created this way won’t have all features that full blown official profiles can offer in the best case.

WoW: make sure to run the official WoW from the Blizzard launcher. That way you will get working Geometry 3D.

I have the same issue, even with a normal GPU setup – one 1050ti with the headset and only one monitor.

I found this happens with HL2 and Black Mesa so far, the head tracking works but I only get the SteamVR loading screen in the headset.

I tried a couple other games in VorpX and those work fine
