… I honestly don’t know what I’m getting. So I’d like to ask some questions to decide for or against buying.

1 – I have a Pimax4K with the Nolo for positionnal tracking. It’s steamVR compatible and front facing only. While reading around both this forum and pimax’s I saw some issues. Most of them dating from the begining of the year.
So my question: Is there still issues and if so what should I expect.

2 – Is there a kind of official manual I could consult to get a sense of how this system is used? (I couldn’t find one but maybe I’m not searching the good way)

3 – How are games without profile handled does it use a default profile or does it fails to launch?

4 – How easy/hard is it to make or tweak a profile?

5 – Is the memory usage when the driver/software is idle low?

6 – I expect performances loss when running the vr mode (seems logical to me), but how big is it?

7 – Can you easily switch on/off vorpx ingame, is it even possible?

8 – Now the same question of game?

Now that’s about all the questions I can think for now, and if all those are answered this should give me plenty to think.

    Thanks in advance

Even in VorpX things stretch out. I actually got it to work by creating a custom resolution in the Nvidia control panel and using borderless windowed. I also noticed that you can adjust the size in windowed. I have a hotkey with ultramon to set the screen res but my folders get screwy. I’m going to poke around VorpX settings a bit to see if what you suggested works. I think there is a option for borders. Thanks for the reply. The game really does look amazing in VR.

Same here, same issue. Maybe I’m doing this wrong? Feels like they should have a how to for this stuff since it doesn’t appear to work right or maybe I’m doing this in the wrong order.

    Steam overlay disabled. SteamVR off.
Turn on VorpX, put on Oculus hmd, I’m in Oculus home.

Launch a game(even created a desktop shortcut through VorpX, in this case, for Dishonored).
Launch the game, it opens on the desktop. Oculus hmd is still on, I’m in Oculus home. Press the Oculus button which usually toggles whatever else is being used (as it does with SteamVR) but it does nothing.

I can press the DEL button but it does not bring up the VorpX menu on either screen.
I can use the VorpX Desktop Mode but cannot play games through it, get a white screen when launching Dishonored.

There are two kind of reactions to Vorpx. Either you aren’t ready to do what it takes to get it to work and you hate it, or you get it working and play dozens of games in VR and have a blast. No matter how small the price is it’s not worth even a dollar if you can’t get it to work. If you can get it to work you get dozens of games in VR and Vorpx is the best money you’ll ever spend on a VR app.
I don’t think the price is too high, but I think Ralf should introduce a refund system or a demo version, and a big disclaimer, that it is not a perfect VR app and that you can’t expect games to work like the native apps on Steam or Home. Though a handful of games work pretty damn well if you set it up right. Like really well!

Ps. Jeg er fra Danmark og mener ikke at det kostede ekstra, da der kun bliver trukket told af fysiske varer.

    I don’t expect a sale ever.

If you like/don’t mind tinkering the software will let you revisit old favorites. Even truly playing 1 or 2 can make it totally worthwhile. If you want to make sure it’s not $$ out the window make a post listing your top 2-3 desired games to play and see if they are actually workable. Some games really aren’t, some are. It’s going to take actual work to get most games to the playable point, but once setup you should be in for some fun :)

    Hi There,
I keep getting an error when i install vorpx:

Sorry. vorpX encountered a critical error and cannot do its magic. :\

Try restarting the application. If the problem persists, reinstalling vorpX might help.

dont get your hopes high tho, i gave up playing the game using that profile because 1/ Z3D sucks 2/ fps sucks horribly even on high end hardware (i7 5820k 4.5ghz, gtx 1080 gtx, 16gddr4, SSDs, windows 10 x64 all up to date)

I tried it with Syrim and it worked well but now I don’t want to play it in VR anymore. I have tried launching skyrim after exiting vorpx, tried uninstalling vorpx, even tried reinstalling skyrim. But it still displays in the VR mode, like the visual is like bent in a 3D way. How do i get rid of it to play it normally because it is so frustrating.

Vorpx is without a doubt the best $40 I’ve spent in VR software for sure. Gaming in general, dunno about that one, but vorpx validates VR in a way that the native game offerings, (what, two or so years in now?) haven’t yet.

I was trying to write a review for Dead Effect 2 VR the other day, and found it really difficult to decide how I felt about it as it’s the closest VR native games have gotten to ‘modern day games’. I wanted to praise the game’s strong points like locomotion movement on the motion controller, having a narrative; but the game itself is so bland and behind the times- and that was enforced by just how nuts and fun VR is with vorpx, and having that exist side by side with this highly praised new release- and I realized that honestly I’ve had the most fun in vr with vorpx and games that are already fully rounded. I wonder when, or if VR-built games will ever catch up to the price tag they carry. For the time I’ve had my headset though, Vorpx and my library of owned, and bought-for-vr titles have been cheaper than most of the developed-for-vr games out there.

I can only hope that the list of games and game engines supported will continue to grow- honestly I care more about the development of Vorpx in games than VR developed games themselves at this point.. The development and updates to vorpx have always been a huge step forward while the VR game market seems to be standing still. I like good games, not overpriced novelty galleries, and software like vorpx be the biggest value in seeing that there really is potential with the hardware, after motion controlled environmental VR sheen wore off.
I think the first game I tried was GTA V, followed by stalker. I was first blown away with Z3D GTAV, then really had my mind blown with geometry-3d in Stalker Call of Pripyat; some time later, thanks to the vorpx development, now I get to go back and try GTA with geometry 3d and it’ll be even crazier, I have no doubt.

So yeah, tldr; maybe not in games overall, but for vr gaming- yeah vorpx has been the biggest blessing to the new platform. Here’s selfishly hoping that continues to expand!

Hi, has anyone gotten F.E.A.R.2 to work at reasonable FPS?

I got an OCed 1080Ti and I get only about 21 fps… the GPU is idling at about 35% usage, so even lowering the graphics settings doesn’t help at all!

    Any tips, ideas?

    Thanks

I expect to keep playing both games with VorpX even after the official ports are released. Mostly because of mods.

    What we know now:
    1. There is no mentioning of mods support in the PR Begtehsda is doing for the games whatsoever. This is very unusual for them.
    2. The VR ports are new games and not editions of the old games. Bethesda doesn’t allow porting assets between games so no mod can be ported from the flat game into the VR port.
    3. There is no mentioning of Creation Kit for those ports been released. And it is not possible to predict if/when community created modding tools will be developed.
    4. Additionally – there is no official info about SkyrimVR been exclusive -temporary or not, to PSVR. There are several articles about it that quote “a Sony rep”. Bethesda has never done game exclusivity and it will be very unfortunate if they start now. I hope SkyrimVR will launch on PC in November together with the PSVR version. If not – I’m still not sure how to react to that.

So I’ll probably buy the official ports out of pure curiosity but I plan on continuing playing Oldrim and FO4 in VR with VorpX.

Ok, I presume if its a profile update, I can pick that up from the cloud profiles?

Thanks for the resolution tip. On UE3 games the performance is usually there to push it passed the 1280 x 1024 recommendation (on a 1080ti). If I can alter the config I usually try for 2560 x 2048, which looks great (I use this in Fallout: New Vegas). I haven’t tried to get in a higher 5:4 / 4:3 resolution as yet with Bioshock but I may give it a try. Unfortunately even with a custom resolution set up in nvidia control panel some games don’t offer me more than 1080 height.

@Lathander not sure if you are still playing. However if you get through that water bit and into “Atlantic Express” in non-vr mode (takes about 3 minutes), then the scan will work again. I got crashes throughout the water bit even after the glass cracked. In Atlantic Express game seems to be stable with VorpX again :-)

I have previously tried to use the forum but entered my password wrong 3 times and gave up! It turns out you don’t use your vorpx password on this site – you have to register separately. Wasted a lot of my time I will admit. Who would of thought…

    I am wondering a few things –
1- I received an update to vorpx the other day and my headtracking and gamepad stopped working in Enderal Skyrim. I can use Gamepad without headtracking and even headtracking with controller emulation – but it feels janky and awkward.
I also deleted my ControlMap_Custom.txt around the same time.
This was to get a gamepad shortcut mod to work properly – could this be the culprit?
I recalled you saying that you have a solution for gamepad and mouse at the same time in Skyrim

How to use Xbox controller with… anything?

Can you shed light on this please? It’s the reason I brought Vorpx..
I have tried every permutation of options as well – but it says rotation failed – and looking with a mouse does not work if controller is active. Although as I said – It did work previously.

2- The books and dialogue in enderal are disappearing of the edge of the screen – probably because of the 1280 x 1440 resolution I have set.

    Performance/Quality Tweaking with Custom Resolutions

Is there a fix for this as well?

3- I also set SKSE skyrim as the exe for Enderal – all other options do not hook (enderal.exe and skyrim.exe) Despite other profiles suggesting other wise – do you know why this is? And why cant I set SKSE skyrim as the .exe for the default vorpx profile (it wont allow me..) This seems odd.

    THANK YOU!
without your program VR would be just a gimmick!

ASW (Vorpx-menu async render) setting to off even more reduces my fps.
Best performance i encounter when Liquid Sync is off and Async render is on.
In Borderlands 1,2,3 and Mass Effect (the ones i tested with yesterday) i see exactly the same result. If i turn Liquid sync on it gets choppy with 33-38fps and if i then also turn Async render off (directly above the liquid sync-setting) it goes down to 22-26fps.

To turn liquid sync off made a BIG difference. It feels much more fluid, now i really enjoy Borderlands 3 (even though i have to disable the shadows in all the games because of different shadows in the two eyes), just looking around, feeling as if i was there on the moon…

Btw, any chance to get g3d in Ryse son of Rome? The game has very nice graphics and i would die to experience it in proper 3d. Fake 3d is somehow not working? I turned it up all the way to 2.0, but i somehow do not see a difference to off. Any ideas?

Ralph is obviously to busy to answer my questions about vsync/FXAA, which is fine to me. How is the opinion of the community? What settings do you use?
I use FXAA wherever possible and vsync mostly on.
What amazes me is, that even if i set vsync to off, i never ever experienced a typical vsync-tearing in any of the games i tried. But if vorpx takes the output of the game and applies it as a warped texture on the Rift, how come that i do not see tearing?

I played a bit with the oculus debug tool and it gave me little insight in what is going on. Very interesting.
