ElectryicParticipantVorpX basically gives you around 8-10 times less FPS than you will get on your regular monitor. Even games that I am running at around 200-300 FPS still slog along at around 30-40 FPS in the headset. Left For Dead 2 (source engine 2)which runs at 400+ FPS on my monitor is the only game so far that I have seen using vorpX that gives me the 60-90 FPS silky smooth that you want for VR. 45 FPS is sleep inducing. And all of this is on a brand new $700 1080GTX.
10 times less? Thats horrible, can anyone on this forum confirm this?
If I get 10 times less FPS, then with my GTX 1070 I could play only games from 1998.
At that time I had just upgraded to the 1080GTX but was still using an older AMD 8350, which although I thought was a decent enough processor, apparently didn’t play well with VR/VorpX etc. I’ve since upgraded the rest of my system and am now getting the expected performance.

Mar 1, 2019 at 1:22am #179902In reply to: Metro Exodus in VR with vorpx. What profile to try?
MacrobyteParticipantHas anyone run into an issue where the vorpx just isn’t hooking to the game? I tried the alternate hook method, switching between the steamvr and oculus load method, running as admin, and disabling my anti-virus but nothing seemed to work. Was getting paranoid about vorpx just not working at all so I tried a cloud profile for dungeon defenders and the local profile for left 4 dead 2. Both appeared to hook fine. I checked the executable in task manager to make sure it matched the one in the profile.
Any help anyone can provide would be appreciated.

zahncistenParticipantYeah, I guess I did misunderstand you. I had no clue you were using an HMD. Right on! OK, well, AOE Online has no official profile, so its not super surprising that its only showing up in 2D. However, you could try creating a profile for it using one of these profiles:
http://rjkole.com/gamestuff/engines/index.php?selengine=Havok
The game is listed as coming out in 2011, so just use search (CRTL+F) to look for previous year games to find established profiles. For instance, Dark Souls, Left 4 Dead 2, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising all have listed profiles (you can tell because they have the Pipes || after the year).
In the VorpX Config, you just have to download (“Import”) one of those profiles from the cloud, then in the Local Profiles panel, locate the newly downloaded profile, then select “Create Custom Profile” give it the name of the Game. In this case, Age of Empires Online.
Now, locate the new profile you just made in the same Local Profiles panel (It’ll have the name you gave it). After selecting it, associate it with the actual game .exe file (Under “Assigned Programs” there should be a blank box, but to its immediate right, press “Add” locate the main .exe file for the game).
Next, press “Apply” on the VorpX Config Window, and try starting AOE Online. If it hooks, and displays in 3D, you got it! (You may want to go into the VorpX in-game menu by pressling DEL and tweaking and testing the 3D strength, etc, and flipping between 3D modes to be sure that it is actually in 3D)
Finally, you may have to try more than one of the games in the Havok list in the link I gave you above from RJK.
Sorry if this is confusing, I’d do it for you, but I don’t own AOE Online to test it out.
Good luck! 👍😃Nov 24, 2018 at 11:05am #176990Topic: Good Full VR Games for Beginners
in forum General vorpX Discussion
RalfKeymasterIf you are new to vorpX, you probably want to hop right into the action instead of learning how to configure vorpX. The list below contains first person games that work with litlle to no configuration in ‘Full VR’ due to vorpX’s DirectVR functionality, which can configure important things like field of view, head tracking or resolution automatically.
For third person games that are usually played best in immersive screen or cinema mode not much configuration is required in general, so this list focuses on first person ‘Full VR’ games that can be a little harder to configure without DirectVR.
If you are stuck, make sure to check the ‘Essential Hints Guide’ and the ‘Quick Reference’ in the help. They help you understand a few basic concepts.

RalfKeymastervorpX 18.2.4 has been released. This is a maintenance release that addresses the issues below.
- Opening the vorpX ingame menu with a gamepad can no longer cause games to hang.
- Vive/Touch controller gamepad stick emulation no longer feels jumpy under some circumstances.
- Vive controller trackpad rotation sensitivity is not framerate dependent anymore.
- VR controllers cannot be considered in use anymore although they were never used.
- Deus Ex: Mankind Divided: fixed issue with occasionally losing depth when exiting menu screens.
- Left 4 Dead 2: DirectVR resolution and tweaks added.
May 8, 2018 at 12:50pm #172742In reply to: VorpX and Vive and Source Games Technical Issue
RalfKeymasterThe Source engine issue might be related to some recent SteamVR update. Some still work fine (e.g. Stanley Parable, Left 4 Dead 2), others don’t (e.g. HL2, Black Mesa Source). I can’t say anything more specific yet, but the issue will be looked into before the next update. The SteamVR/Source issue has been addressed with a profile update. Importing the updated “Half-Life 2 / Portal [vorpX]” profile from the cloud should fix it. Same for Black Mesa.
@ Sauermon: BTW: Gerry’s Mod currently is not supported and 2D only since it uses an older Source engine build that the current vorpX version can’t handle. Geometry 3D for Gerry’s Mod will be available in vorpX 18.2.0.
Jan 21, 2018 at 11:20am #170300In reply to: DirectVR game list and question
RalfKeymasterDirectVR is a collection of multiple features that help to make games a better experience when you play them on the headset, it is not linked to the kind of stereo 3D that is available for a game. It can take care of resolution, FOV, settings-tweaks and head tracking. Which of these four potential DirectVR options are available varies from game to game.
Oculus Touch/Vive wands work with almost every game, that is unrelated to DirectVR. You can use the VR controllers to either emulate mouse and keyboard (freely configurable) or a gamepad.
Games that have all four potential DirectVR features are for example the ones below, a lot more have support for at least one of the potential DirectVR features.
Skyrim (original DX9 version is usually the better choice)
Fallout 3
Fallout New Vegas
Fallout 4
Portal
Portal 2
Far Cry 3

Far Cry Primal
Left 4 Dead 2
Mirror’s Edge

The Stanley ParableDec 24, 2017 at 8:08pm #169055In reply to: vorpX 17.3.2 Available Now
RalfKeymasterNo need to import profiles from the cloud for these games. Please make a factory reset in the config app (trouble shooting page) in case you imported an outdated profile from the cloud.
WoW is a third person game, hence it opens in cinema mode, not much point in playing a third person game in full VR mode, especially one that is so interface heavy as WoW. There is a new mode that sits in between cinema mode and full VR immersion wise in this vorpX. Switch the ‘Play Style’ to ‘Immersive Screen Mode’ to try that. Basically that’s cinema mode as immersive as possible.
However, if you want to check how first person games work in full VR mode, I would recommend one of the games below, they work in full VR out of the box.
Good games to start are (in no particular order):
Skyrim (original DX9 version is usually the better choice)
Fallout 3
Fallout New Vegas
Fallout 4
Portal
Portal 2
Left 4 Dead 2
Mirror’s Edge
Bioshock (DX9)
Bioshock 2 (DX9)

Half-Life 2 Episode 2

RalfKeymasterDid you check the “Essential Hints” guide in the vorpX help? It explains the essential basics you have to know, e.g. what options you have if vorpX can’t automatically adjust the FOV for a game. Reading this guide really is essential (hence its name :) ).
Apart from that I would suggest to try Direct VR games first, which do everything automatically, so you just have to push a button after entering the game. Save the ones that require manual steps for later when you know a bit better how vorpX works.
BTW: the next vorpX version will have auto FOV for about 40 more games.
Good games to start are (in no particular order):

The Stanley ParableDec 10, 2017 at 7:46pm #168624In reply to: Standing Ovation
RalfKeymasterThird person games like Diablo 3 or WoW usually start in cinema mode. You can switch to full VR mode in the vorpX menu (DEL key), but that doesn’t necessarily make much sense for every game. Diablo 3 for example has an isometric camera perspective looking down on the playfield, so it’s best best played in cinema mode. vorpX cannot change the actual game mechanics of a game.
However, for first person games, especially those with Direct VR (like Portal 2), the experience comes quite close to native VR games. Portal 2 does not run on a virtual cinema screen with vorpX, it takes you into the game exactly like a native VR game, even including basic roomscale capabilities in that particular case.
Good games to get started (all with Direct VR support) are listed below. Later, when you know a bit better what vorpX can and cannot do and how it works, you will also be able to bring other first person games close to that.
Borderlands 2
Borderlands Pre-Sequel
Skyrim (original DX9 version is usually the better choice)
Bioshock (DX9)
Bioshock 2 (DX9)
Bioshock Infinite
Dishonored
Fallout 3

TheGamingOnionParticipantDirectVR games always work very well for me tracking wise, It’s just a pain to figure out the 3d scale, which doesn’t get set automatically.
In Non DirectVR titles, not having a proper Y lock is really disorienting (the built in one, doesn’t work when I move my head up and down) but I’ve seen a few people who modified those old ball mice and took out the Y axis from them, resulting in a great experience.
VorpX allowed me to finally achieve one of my childhood dreams, and that is play Left 4 Dead (2) in VR, it worked flawlessly with DirectVR, if you ever really wanted to play one of your favourite games in VR, and they are supported with DirectVR, I’d jump on it right away, easily worth the money I spent on it.

RalfKeymasterThe best games to start with are undoubtedly those with Direct VR support. After applying Direct VR these have perfect 1:1 head tracking and perfect FOV without the need for any further setup. In *some* cases Direct VR even provides basic roomscale, i.e. you can walk around a bit more freely than with the normal vorpX positional tracking.
In no particular order:
Bioshock 1 (original version in DX9 mode)
Bioshock 2 (original version in DX9 mode)
Bioshock Infinite
Borderlands 2
Borderlands Pre-Sequel
Skyrim (original DX9 version is best for VorpX)
Fallout 3
Fallout New Vegas
Fallout 4
Dishonored
Half-Life 2 (incl. Ep. 1+2)
The Stanley Parable
Dear Esther (Source engine version)
Portal
Portal 2
Black Mesa
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Left 4 Dead 2
Mirror’s Edge
Aliens Colonial Marines
Duke Nukem Forever
Quake III
Star Trek Voyager Elite Force
Return to Castle Wolfenstein [2001]My latest personal recommendation would be Half-Life 2 Episode 1, which I just recently played for two hours. Something I don’t do nearly as often as I’d like to these days. Call me heavily biased, I am for sure, but that was more fun than 99% of made for VR games. I actually ended up doing that after buying and trying a bunch of highly praised made for VR titles the same evening.
In case someone never played HL2 Episode 1: right at the start you enter an alien fortress, which not only still looks great after all these years, it’s also a perfect-for-VR mix of shooting sequences and (easy) physics puzzles. Most importantly: all that in a highly intense atmosphere that almost inescapably sucks you into the game. Creating such an intense atmosphere is the hard part of making good single player shooters and it really makes all the difference in VR. Hard to top if you ask me.
Similar things could be said about Bioshock, Black Mesa (Half-Life 1 remake), the Fallout games, Skyrim or – insider tip – Aliens: Colonial Marines, which may just be a mediocre shooter on the monitor, but is actually great with vorpX.
Important side note: whenever possible play standing with Touch controllers or Vive wands!
One last thing: not a Direct VR game, but also extremely intense (and visually great) is Resident Evil 7. I chickened out before the introduction mission was over. Good luck with that one.

Hello guys, do you want to play Left 4 Dead with No Big Guns Effect? I made a video tutorial, please follow and enjoy ,) I hope you will like it because immersion is now like never before.
If you are new to vorpX, you probably want to hop right into the action instead of learning how to configure vorpX.
