yes I remember trying quite a few combinations.
Renaming the gear exe as well as startup.exe, unfortunately none of them worked.
maybe there could be some other way to force injection, once figured out it should work like mirrors edge i.e. FOV enhancement geometry, 3D etc.
would be pretty awesome.
Thank you so much, that got mirrors edge to work finally, though it has a really low fps, but I’ll figure it out.
Btw if u still can get anywhere. I would suggest using a non steam copy of the game(buy a Disc or pirate it) it seems to make everything less glitchy. I can use my steam mirrors edge but it crashes randomly sometimes. So I just use a non steam copy now. Im no longer going to buy steam games to use with the oculus dk2.
I had the same problem with steam mirrors edge. How I fixed it I would make a shortcut to launch the game and place it in the middle of my desktop. I put my oculus in extended mode on windows. Set vorpx to use system settings. Then I would set the oculus as the main display and try to click on the shortcut to launch the game. It really hard to see on the oculus but I would manage to click it and the game would launch and it seemed to show the game in double screens so I figured out that was due to the settings in mirrors edge I had to set the screen resolution to 1920 x 1080 and then it looked great. see if that works
So when I go to play either Miasmata or Mirrors Edge from steam, with vorpx on they crash. This seems to happen with any setup in the general vorpx configuration and works fine without vorpx on. I have the DK2 and it works alright with other games like portal and oblivion. Can anyone give me a hint as to how to fix this? Thanks.
It’s look incredibly zoomed in the game . I have to constantly press the middle mouse button to zoom out to see text on the screen . The fov in the game optimizer doesn’t work when I press f11 nothing changes. Any advice?
Thanks for the tips, Ralf.
I reinstalled, and before running it, I immediately reinstalled the SDK 1.4.3 over the one included in Vorpx. And then I didn’t fiddle with the config other than to set it to only show on DK2.
It seems to be running fine now, and I have a fun test session playing the first few levels of mirrors edge. I think part of the earlier problem was that I’d set the config to clone screens, and something in Skyrim didn’t like it.
It’s not a perfect solution, but as a workaround for using DK2 on older games, I’m pretty impressed with the way it works.
I have one more question, and one suggestion.
First, does the head tracking only emulate mouse movement, or can it be used like trackir in games that support it eg. Arma and rFactor?
Also, I’m guessing that anyone with a DK2 buying this software probably already has the DK2 runtimes installed, and those without a DK2 don’t need it. I think the Vorpx installation probably doesn’t need to download and install them as well, especially if it’s not the current version. At least let it do a check for installed/newer versions. Just a suggetsion.
This is not normal at all. I have no clear idea what may cause this in your case TBH, but both Mirrors Edge and Fear 2 should run with smooth 60fps without much problems on a semi decent machine in G3D.
Mirrors Edge for example runs easily with 60fps here (begin of 1st level, 1920×1080, Geometry 3D, GTX 770).
The only thing I can imagine is that you maybe have an SLI or nVidia Optimus system or something else that also hooks into the graphics pipeline additionally to vorpX, which can cause all sorts of issues. That might be something worth to check.
Mirrors edge had less drop but still too much.
Monitor+vorpx disabled = +200fps
VorpX+ no geometry reconstruction = +100fps
VorpX+ geometry 3D = +35fps
So Im allready losing nearly 50% by running vorpx and I get around 20% of original fps with geometry mode.
I’m having similair issue’s but only with a few games,
These games work for me :
Fallout New Vegas
FarCry 3 & Blood Dragon
Mirrors Edge(but not steam version)
Garry’s Mod
DayZ
Stalker Call of Pripyat(but shows a blackscreen can hear sounds tough)
Battlefield 3
Crysis 3
F.E.A.R – wich launches with vorpx but runs on my normal screen not the rift even tough the rift is primary display.
Games that do not seem to trigger vorpx:
Bioshock Infinite – the game launches but is not running via vorpx
F.E.A.R 2 – Crashes at startup but briefly triggers vorpx.
Rendering performance however is roughly cut in half in Geometry 3D, since everything has to be rendered twice, but not so in Z-Buffer 3D, which works almost as fast as mono rendering.
This is from a another thread, and I wish the performance hit would be so low for me. ;) This happens basicly in every game but Im using F.e.a.r 2 as an example.
Opening scene with normal monitor = 250-400fps
VorpX running + Rift, no “3D” modes enabled = 60-100fps
Vorpx running + Rift, 3D geometry mode = 10-40fps
Needless to say, its unplayable and something is wrong since even running the vorpx drops the fps so much. Im using 290x and normal rift games run much better, some vorpx games don’t give that big of a performance hit but still too much (mirrors edge, skyrim etc)
You have to press F11 in the game to switch to the new FOV after applying the Game Optimizer setting. In some cases additional steps like this one are unavoidable. If that is the case, the additional steps are mentioned in the according optimizer entry.
If applying the FOV automatically fails for some reason, you can also do these tweaks manually in many cases by googling for “FOV + Game name”. For Mirrors Edge you can find multiple tutorials, one of thhem here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=138177233
Alternatively you can use the 3D FOV Enhancement in the vorpX ingame menu. Directly setting the FOV in the game is usually better though.
Hi Russbo,
Mirrors Edge has an entry in the game optimizer database to enhance the FOV (field of view), which is what you are looking for. You can find the optimizer in the vorpX config app, the menu entry is called Optimize Game Settings.
For more general information on the matter you can take a look at the “How to get the most out of vorpX” guide in the vorpX documentation. This is an issue with many games, vorpX has several functions to deal with it.
All games are set to 1920×1080 (i used geforce experiance to set all res to 1920×1080) and launched them once after setting them (with out rift)
now i can get them to appear on the rift but no vorpx message (except for gmod)
im launching them all trough steam because if i launch trough the .exe i get random errors generated by steam
If i look cross eyed i can something with mirrors edge
with Bioshock i can get trough the main menu barley and in-game its black.

the picture above are my Vorpx settings.
i do have bitdefender and i did turn if off to be sure it wasnt blocking it
still same problem.
Thanks for your response Ralf! I hope you succeed.
users in the ISI Forum are very knowledgeable
That’s true, for example Vittorio somehow managed to get 3d mirrors working using his custom Tridef profile (there is actual depth in the mirror image) –
