I have both a CV1 and a Vive (Yes I select the proper headset under ‘general’). Both work fine when I launch Skyrim, however when I launch doom 2016 or GTAV, nothing shows up on either headset at all, its as if nothing happened, I can see a smaller window running the game on my monitor.

I tried following all of the basic troubleshooting steps, including disabling anything that could interfere with the injector, cloud/local profiles, etc for each game. No matter what I do, each respective headset shows just the default steam vr or oculus home screen, its as if it doesnt even try or see the games being launched at all.

I tried to create a desktop shortcut as recommended in the basic troubleshooting steps, but I get the error message ‘please start vorpx control before using vorpx shortcuts’ when I try to run the shortcut (it creates it successfully) even though the control is running and is visible in the sys tray and works perfectly when I run/launch Skyrim.

How do I make vorpx work with anything other than Skyrim? Please advise. Thanks.

This software really kicks ass, it just needs a bit of practice to make it work at its full potential. I got nearly native results with a bunch of amazing game (i wrote a small list on another thread). I am collecting VR games on Steam so i made quite a lot of experience with VorpX as well and i can tell that beside these ones, which i consider the more performant, there’s many many others that may have few glitches or minor incompatibilities but still worth to be played in VR with Vorpx because they are 100% more engaging than the monitor in any case. This is the most honest review i can do after 2 months practicing with Vorpx and many many games. I cut&paste the list of my favourites here:

    My list of favourites:

    Dishonored
    Outlast
    Mirror’s Edge
    Bioshiock Infinite
    Aliens: Colonial Marines
    Shadow Warrior
    The Darkness 2
    Dear Esther *
    Life is Strange *
    Dead Space 3 *
    Max Payne 3 *

    * Unlock prosiontal tracking form advanced options

These are my favourite perfomance wise. I would add also:

Alan Wake, which doesn’t suppuort geometry 3d or positional tracking but runs so well with Z-Buffer that you won’t miss the 2.

If you have a good pc and are interested on 2 or 3 games above you shouldn’t hesitate because, once learned how it works, you definitely won’t be disappointed in my opinion.

Pleae check whether you maybe added something to the game’s launch parameters in Steam manually. If you can’t change the resolution in the game’s options, you are likely starting it with manually modified start parameters.

Nothing I could see has been changed in Steam. Is there a file I could simply delete in steamapp/common? I’d tried deleting .ini files in My Documents with both games, that doesn’t make a bit of difference.

I was bit put off for a while and then one day just decided to look at it like a gamble.. a night out etc. I was ready and accepting that it might not work and just looked at it like spending $40 bucks and had no expectations. I ended up being quite pleased with it.

What I like about it is it is just a set of tools basically. The list of games is just a small starting point for what works. Once you learn how to create profiles and how all the in game settings work I find I am constantly looking at my steam library and reinstalling old games to see if I can get them to work in VR.

Sorry I have the Gog version.
When I launch games using Steam, I launch from the shortcut in the game installation folder.
I’m not sure if that would make any difference.

Thanks kurry – I tried it but the it doesn’t kick in, it only starts on the desktop.

Seems likle I have this problem with Steam games in general – is there something that needs to be configured so Steam games work?

I can’t be the only one with this issue? This is my second time with the dk2 on entirely different hardware.

Dark areas are murky, posterized and entirely devoid of shades/details.
I’m on the latest Oc runtime/home and I’m booting alien isolation and other games via steam. This issue is visible in every game and it’s definitely due to the dk2 hardware not handling the rgb range correctly.

I need some way to set the dk2 to the proper rgb range but I don’t know how to access it as a display in the nvidia control panel.

Normally everything is off. And also the notification system as there are on steam or shadowplay.

I tried to restart the games and this time it puts me an error message: “Vorpx could not initialize your oculus rift. It reported :” With no end to the error sentence.

I created the trouble shoot data archive :

Thank you for your speed :)

I received my HTC Vive two days ago and I also bought vorpX. My monitor is a TV connected to my GPU via HDMI and my Vive is connected to the GPU via Displayport. When I try to launch a game, an error message pops up on my monitor saying “vorpX could not initialize your headset. It reported: HMD detected over USB, but Monitor not found (208) This is a SteamVR error. Please try to restart SteamVR.”
I have restarted SteamVR multiple times, but I get the same result. I have tried launching multiple games, again same result. In the vorpX config I have HTC Vive selected. I am confused and frustrated. Any help would be much appreciated.

Well, VorpX injection is working for other games. The only other 2 DX hooks that I can think of are the Steam overlay, and NVidia’s GeForce Experience (which I’m not sure if it’s even a lower level hook).

I’ve disabled both and it still didn’t work. I’ve also reconfigured to run fullscreen and it also didn’t work.

General question regarding VorpX: Should we always try to run games with it at 1080×1200? Does that map to a 1:1 pixel resolution on the CV1 after VorpX does its viewport manipulations?

I don’t know exactly where you guys are hooking into DX to create the individual viewports for each eye. I’m assuming its not only at the Present() (DX9) and then doing changes to that buffer.

Half resolution (one eye) would make sense if you are just translating the view in the second eye. But I noticed that even on games like GTA V, the recommended resolution is 1280×1024, which is not 8:9.

So I found some old threads related to X3, but it seems no one was able to properly use VorpX with X3. Why is the game listed in the supported games list, when it isn’t?

I’m trying this with the Steam’s X3TC veresion, and here’s the progress that I have made so far:
    1) Edit the res.dat file, and add a line for the 9:10 resolution:
    1080;1200;
    2) With VorpX closed, launch the game and select that resolution and windowed mode in the launcher. The game should be running fine, except for the weird aspect ration resolution.
    3) Set on the game properties on steam the following launch options:
    -noabout
This will effectively skip the launcher and avoid the launch loop that happens when VorpX tries to inject itself too early.

If you open VorpX now and launch the game, it will “try” to initialize, but for me it doesn’t work. X3TC.exe throws a dialog with title “Steam Error” and content “Application load error P:0000065432”. If you inspect the threads on the exe, there are two that apparently execute for a while before dying:

    f4805a42-0.tmp!CreateDXGIFactory2+0x2dd50
    f4805a42-0.tmp!Direct3DCreate9+0x1a660

I assume that the DX/DXGI initialization failed due to the hook that VorpX is placing in DX.

The EgoSoft developers for some reason included the d3dx9_37.dll file in their folder, even though they are including the DX runtime that includes _37 (Mar 2008). The digital signature matches Microsoft, so it was not modified in any way, just distributed incorrectly in my opinion. I tried also renaming that file out of the way so it would the system’s DX dll but the same error happened.

Ralf, since you mentioned that VorpX used to work with the demo, are we missing something? Has one of their updates broke the compatibility? Which comes back to my original question, is this game really supported?

I am using 1080, but I haven’t been able to run many games on vorpx. Witcher 3 and Star Citizen both crash for me. Performance in steam VR games and Oculus Home games though is solid 90 fps all the time. I am gonna try some more games tonight through VorpX, play with resolutions etc.

If vorpX doesn’t kick in automatically for a game you want to play, create a vorpX desktop shortcut for the game: right click the vorpX tray icon, choose “Create Desktop Shortcut”, then navigate to the games .EXE and double click it. For games that have a launcher program select the main .EXE not the launcher. This will create a shortcut on your desktop that hooks more reliable into some games than the automatic detection. Shortcuts may not work correctly with some Steam/Uplay/Origin games.

Everytime I try to open a game, say fallout, it instantly crashes, the same goes for all steam games.I try Star Citizen and nothing happens to my Vive, but the game opens on the desktop.
