I keep reading that I need steamvr open. However, when I keep it open everything looks weird and washed out. If I load games with it off it works fine.

I can’t get this game to hook. I get audio and a black screen. I’ve read everything on the other forum for games not working on htc vive. I’ve had other games hook just fine. I’ve tried with steamvr both on and off. Antivirus and firewall turned off and no other ingame stuff or chat.

SteamVR has to running or vorpX will not work.

Other than that: there might be an injection conflict with some other program on your PC. Many programs also hook into games and can cause such an issue. Not all of them are obvious.

Hottest candidates are: virus scanners, any sort of CPU/GPU utilities, game video recording/streaming software, chat programs and generally everything that can show notifictations in games.

Best way to trouble shoot is to disable/uninstall every background program that would not be there after a fresh, Microsoft only Windows install.

If you can’t solve the issue this way, please try to start a few games, then create a trouble shoot data archive in the vorpX config app and send me this archive. I will then check whether I can find something that you may have overlooked.

    Hi All

    Vive
    Windows 10
    GeForce 970
    Drivers up to date

Recently purchased VorpX. I have tried using all the advice I’ve seen on the forums. Including disabling applications, services that may conflict with VorpX. I’ve changed my setup back down to one monitor. I’ve tried several different combinations of starting SteamVR or not and then running VorpX. Using the Shortcut option and not running many different games that VorpX has profiles for including Alien:Isolation, ETS2, TLD. All I ever see is the Vive planet/moon screen or nothing.
Does anyone have a list of apps/processes/services that they stopped and then VorpX started to work? Is there something that I may have missed? How about an order of operations from after logon to playing the game?

There are three things that you need to take care of once for each game:

    1. Field Of View

You can get many games look almost perfect in this regard. And even for those that do not offer FOV control, neither directly, nor through vorpX, there are functions in vorpX to make them playable, although not always in a perfect way.

From best to worst here is what you can do:

    1. Set the game FOV directly in the game if it provides to dial in an FOV of 120°.
    2. Set the game FOV directly with the vorpX Game Settings Optimizer (vorpX config app) for games that support it.
    3. Set the game FOV to 120 manually through an ini tweak or external tool (avaliable for many games, google FOV + game name).
    4. Use the 3D FOV Enhancement in the vorpX ingame menu (availabe in Geometry 3D games).
    5. Play the game in Virtual Cinema Mode (can be enabled in the vorpX ingame menu).
    6. Use one of the letterbox aspect ratio modes in the vorpX ingame menu and/or ImageZoom.
    7. Use the 2D FOV-Enhancement in the vopX ingame menu (be aware that this distorts the image).

It’s NOT woking ! I’m trying now for hours and hours to change the FOV setting and it still not working at all, game is ultra zoomed.

” Set the game FOV directly in the game if it provides to dial in an FOV of 120°. ”

=> Impossible on fallout 4, metro 2033 redux, metro last light redux

Set the game FOV directly with the vorpX Game Settings Optimizer (vorpX config app) for games that support it.

    => the same ! ” optimize setting ” for FOV = 120, then ” setting applied ” then ” apply ” then…. NO CHANGE in game !

All my games are original, on steam, and not modified. I paid 35 euros for something that is not working, you have no video of tutorial on your website… great !!

That sounds rather odd. There is no background process or anything similar that remains active after closing vorpX. vorpX only hooks into other programs while it is running.

Only possible thing I can imagine is that vorpX maybe hooks into a SteamVR component while it is active and then remains hooked after closing the vorpX control app, which then might cause unwanted behavior.

You can check for that with the following procedure:

    1. Reboot your PC
    2. Start vorpX and SteamVR
    3. Start a few games
    4. Close vorpX
    5. If you now observe the unwanted bahavior, open the vorpX config app and create a trouble shoot data archive, which contains a logfile. Do not start vorpX again before doing this! Otherwise the logfile is flushed.
    6. Check the logfile in the archive for any programs that vorpX wasn’t supposed to hook into while it was running and add them to the exclude list in the config app.

Please let me know your findings! If there is indeed some unwanted hook, I will add the program(s) in question to the exclude list per default for the next update.

I can confirm that. After starting vorpx every game launched via steam is no longer running in VR Mode. UPlay games are working fine. It seems there is a conflict with steamVR and vorpx.

I’m using vorpx 16.2 and HTC Vive.

    Hello.

I Have a Problem with ETS2. I got it working perfectly before. Very smooth gameplay and Headtracking. Everything worked perfect. Its one of the best VR games for me but there is no official Vive Support.

I played with HTC Vive for 2 hours without Problems.

But the next Time i want to start it, it doesnt work again. Checked every setting in Steam, Steam VR and VorpX but i have no Idea. One time it started after 10 -15 tries to start. Restarted Steam VR. Restarted PC, Restarted VorpX in every comination but no hooking. Vive shows only the Steam VR.

It seems like it hooks only by random. Today i tried it for 1 hour without success. Creating DesktopIcon and staring as Admin hasnt fixed the Problem. Any Ideas?

OK, made a little bit of progress. Super confusing, not 100% sure on what I’m doing, however, am getting closer in baby steps on this.

So I downloaded my copy of Thief II, The Metal Age. I’ve managed to get the menu screen going in my headset. However, the mouse and keyboard (HTC Vive controllers didn’t work at all) were not working in the game. The left click seemed to do nothing at all, while right clicking seemed to only work on my left monitor. The screen in my headset was beautiful and clear as it is on my monitor, but gargantuan and off to the left. None of the hotkeys to change those settings worked either.

But how I got to this little bit of progression was, starting VorpX, then running SteamVR, then running the game. After importing Thief 2, The Metal Age from the configure settings. Where I was going wrong when I read Ralf’s instructions on my other post was I was leaving the configure screen up and then running the VorpX picture viewer running. I thought that was what made VorpX work. Running the picture viewer.

So still haven’t gotten any game to run, but it’s a step in the right direction, hopefully some of this helps.

I’m with you. While I’ve gotten VorpX to start, and I can get the Desktop viewer to launch, I can’t get it to launch/attach for any game. All I get is the SteamVR home area (“This is REAL” with my Roomspace Grid) and that’s it. I’ve even disabled my second monitor while trying to run it in case that was causing issues as there’s no support for dual monitors.

Tried using it with Diablo 3 and if VorpX is running at all then Diablo 3 locks up when I hit “Play” in the battle.net launcher. Also as a shot in the dark I tried running it with other games like ARK and no go there. Pretty lost and confused as hitting “Start VorpX” as the instructions doesn’t seem to do anything.

My Vive goes grey constantly due to performance issues, and this happens in official SteamVR software as well.

Are you sure this is due to performance issues? Mine only goes grey when I lose tracking (reproducable by covering the headset’s sensors with my hands).
You rig more than satisfies the recommended specs for the Vive:

    Recommended PC Specs
    GPU: NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 970, AMD Radeon™ R9 290 equivalent or better
CPU: Intel® i5-4590, AMD FX 8350 equivalent or better
    RAM: 4 GB or more
Video Output: HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort 1.2 or newer
USB Port: 1x USB 2.0 or better port
Operating System: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10

You might wanna troubleshoot for better tracking (reflective surfaces? mounting rigid enough? Line of sight?)

I’ve done this unfortunately. It’s definitely performance. I’ve removed or covered all reflective surfaces, mounted the light boxes on studs about 14 ft apart with great visibility at pretty much perfect angles from what I can tell. No LED lights or sunlight… The thing that makes it clear that it’s a performance issue is that it happens more based on how demanding the application is. I can run Tilt Brush beautifully but games totally drag, drop frames, and ultimately drop tracking. It’s like the throughput of the system on the whole just isn’t adequate.

    Hello Ralf,

Sorry, I didn’t realise you were an employee of Vorpx, I only just noticed your title of Keymaster.

I’m sorry to hear your company isn’t interested in sponsoring an overview and tutorial series at this point in time.

I just received my OSVR today so I can’t gauge how popular my tutorial series will be. However I would like to point out that OSVR posted on the 17th of May that the OSVR is now working with Project Cars via the SteamVR/OSVR driver. That post on Facebook has had 18,289 likes in the last 8 days.
That means that of the 25,344 people that are following OSVR, 72% took notice of their post and were interested.

So being able to tell people that the OSVR can now play each game in your VorpX library right now (after testing, setup process and settings customization is done by myself and uploaded as a tutorial), even if not working natively, would still bring massive attention to your program.

My video on how to get Elite Dangerous working with Google Cardboard via Riftcat and the SteamVR driver has had 1262 views since the 18th of may, so there is definite interest in being able to stream games in VR from PC to phone as well. So you’d be bringing in two entire new markets to your product and at the same time, helping introduce people to stereoscopic 3D VR in older games that they love, which is the reason I’ve started creating tutorials.

I really hope you change your mind, if you do, please let me know as I’d love to get started on a series involving your program.

How do I create a “trouble shoot data archive” because I can’t get this thing to work. This is a clean install of windows 10 64 bit and I don’t have things running in the background. I’m also very careful what I install all my Pc, I disabled my firewall to test it, but this does does nothing to make VorpX work. I tried running Arma 3 another game I bought this for and this doesn’t work. I don’t want to have to keep purchasing games just to see if VorpX works.

Am I suppose to start Oculus Home or Steam VR to get this thing working? Like I say, all I did was run VorpX and then start steam and tried to play GTA 5.

I just installed this and so far I’m not very happy with it. I installed it to play GTA 5 and it doesn’t work. I have started VorpX and applied the tweaks in VorpX with a message to say that they were sucssesful, but then when I start steam and run GTA, there’s just a small screen on my desktop and nothing in my DK2. All my other apps work on Oculus Home, but VorpX does nothing? How am I supposed to get GTA working with this app? Step by step instructions please, because I’m totally lost on how to get this to work. I did watch a Youtube video that said all you do is launch VorpX and then play it in steam.

Got it, thanks again Ralf! Loving VorpX support on my Vive!

How exactly did you fix this issue? Portal 2 simply refuses to work, I have reinstalled VorpX, Portal 2, tried running as both Admin and not Admin, yet it is still unable to find the settings file.

    Thank you

I would like to know that too, still doesn’t work for any steam games. Was hoping my previous post was detailed enough to get a response from Ralf.

VorpX does not work with OSVR and Google Cardboard. You need either an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive for vorpX.

The OSVR has a SteamVR driver, which makes it compatible with all HTV Vive games.

And Riftcat is a streaming service from PC to Android phones that is compatible with both SteamVR and Oculus Rift titles.

So in both scenarios, VorpX should work even though there isn’t native support. Those are the reasons I’m trying to obtain a press copy, so I can evaluate how well both scenarios work, find any bugs and workarounds, and upload tutorials for both the OSVR and Google Cardboard on how to use VorpX.
