No dice so far on the Stalker games. Went into setting, changed to DX 9, and also messed around with a lot of other settings. The games start on the monitor and never in the headset. SteamVR is on as well, and I have also tried with it off. Also tried starting straight from the exe. Also imported a cloud version of the profile. I’ve tried both call of Pripyat, and Lost Alpha. Let me know if there is something else I’m missing!

That sounds like maybe the profile database is not available or cannot be read for some reason.

That would certainly explain your second issue, games without a profile loaded would behave exactly this way. It would also have an impact on how well vorpX can inject games. For games it knows that usually works better.

Desktop shortcuts usually only work for games that are launched directly without Steam/Origin/Uplay etc. Not much falls into that category anymore these days.

For now I can only recommend to reinstall vorpX and then make sure to run neither vorpX nor Steam with admin rights (or both, but that’s not really recommended).

If you can’t solve the issue this way, try to launch a few games, create a trouble shoot data archive in the config app and send that to support |at| vorpx com.

    Hi
I have rift cv1 and no matter what game i choose to start (from the supported list) I get message xxx.exe have trouble loading. Even steamvr and vorpx desktop viewer won’t work.

I’ve troubleshooted for hours and I’m ready to give up, oculus rift store and all games there works perfectly, but when it comes to games or apps “outside” of the store everything fails.

I have read the basic troubleshooting and followed every point, now I’m at loss what to do. Win10 x64 970gtx, 8gb ram i5-2500k

Exactly, that’s how it works. You can launch games from Steam, Uplay, Origin, any other publisher launcher or just the desktop for games that aren’t started through a frontend.

Please make sure that you run games at least once without vorpX with the same user account and access rights (admin or not) that you are running vorpX with, otherwise the config files may not exist.

On a standard Windows install user/rights are not something you have to care about, but in case you use an extra admin user, you have to make sure that the games and vorpX are both run with the same user account and access rights for the Optimizer to work correctly.

The majority of game config files are stored in your user’s documents folder respectively folders below that. vorpX uses a standard Windows function to locate this directory and goes from there. Unless you installed games with a different user account or there is some very arcane issue with said function returning a wrong path on your system, it should be able to locate the correct directories – provided you run the vorpX config app with the the same user account and access rights that you run your games with.

Same for Steam. Steam location is read from the Windows registry. Unless it’s wrong there for some reason (or the reg key doesn’t exist), it doesn’t matter where you have Steam installed.

Apart from that a list of games that has this issue for you would help. Since there are many different kinds of config storage methods that the Game Optimizer can handle this might help to understand what happens.

I have the same problem. Whenever I start up games on steam whilst running Vorpx the screen on my Vive just turns red. This also happens when I start up games via Origin, or from the steam directory. The next time I use my Vive I’m going to disable Norton Anti-Virus, maybe that helps.

I’m having this issue for every Steam game. Cannot find path.
Running normal or admin doesn’t make a difference.
Steam is installed in a custom location (could be part of the issue?)
All Steam registry keys are available (I reinstalled Steam too to be sure) and the games have been run.

Is there a way to manually point to the config files?

Ok after no solution to my issue, i have another question…

In excluded programs list, i see a few programs on it that are associated with my games, i even see oculus on this list. All of my games are steam/windows except Battlefield 4 which is origin. both steam and origin is on this list also.

“Programs on this list will never load vorpX even if vorpX ‘thinks’ it might make sense to try”

Im confused because I never touch the list, but there’s plenty of game oriented programs on there that are directly involved… What should I do? I get the same outcome for games. Sorry, we have trouble loading {game}.exe…

Please help, i just want to experience my game library in VR…

For Codemasters racing sims vorpX can emulate gamepad axes for head tracking. That should be enabled in vorpX already, but you might have to assign the head tracking movement to the according look around option in the game’s input config.

Be aware though that this is rather laggy. A better solution would be OpenTrack which can emulate TrackIR input through head tracking. Not sure though whether it has been updated to the latest Oculus runtime or supports SteamVR yet.

The third option would be to play these games in Virtual Cinema Mode. That’s probably the easiest one, but not 100% immersive. With the “Ambience” scene and the screen moved closer it works quite well though.

Ralf, are you saying FluidSync caps our fps at 45? How is this helpful?

I’m having similar problem, no matter how low I put the settings in games I’ve tried, I cannot get fps above 45 in the vive. It hits 45, but never above it (and thus inducing the sub 45 black flicker).

Also I’m not getting near the performance I was with DK2 just weeks ago. Using same settings and same resolutions as before, but vive running steamvr is just not even close. Is this your experience as well? Should we expect similar frame rates between the rift and the vive?

The headset has to be in direct mode. vorpX shortcuts don’t work with most Steam games, just try starting through Steam.

The red screen sounds rather odd, never heard of that before, but maybe it’s an injection conflict with another program on your PC. Likely candidates are: virus scanners, any sort of GPU/CPU utility, video recording software, chat programs and generally anything that can show notifications in games or hooks games for any purpose.

Best way to trouble shoot this is to disable/uninstall absolutely everything that is running in the background and would not be there after a fresh Microsoft only Windows install.

If you can’t find anything, send the trouble shoot data and I will check whether you might have overlooked something.

So, I am LOVING vorpX, and I guess I am one of the lucky few almost completely immune to VR sickness. Anyways, I was trying to configure my steam controller, so I can use it properly standing up with 360 rotation with my Vive. I wanted to disable artificial up and down look, and just use my head. What I’ve found so far, is there is absolutely no way to configure the steam controller while using vorpX. I can make a profile before using vorpX, and then exit out, and start it with vorpX… But when I tried it the controls were all messed up from the custom map that I had made. This is a very very laborious process of exiting vorpX, starting game, exiting game, starting vorpX, starting game, ect ect ect. Does anyone know how to either configure the steam controller while in a vorpX game, or disable artificial up/down look?

A number of steam and non steam games are throwing this error when I try to use the optimize settings feature in the configuration window. What is weird is one of the games with this problem gave me a search window so I could browse to the correct settings file location. I closed this window and tried to optimize again, and it did not pop up the search window this time and I can’t get it to again.

Can someone please tell me how to correct faulty settings paths? All I need is to get that search window to pop up again.

Please try to launch a few games and then create a troublshoot data archive on the trouble shoot page of the vorpX config app. Send that to support |at| vorpx com. No promises, but I will check whether you maybe overlooked something.

The desktop viewer working but nothing else sounds very much like an injection conflict.

Please try to reboot your PC and SteamVR if you didn’t do that already.
