The last 3 I’ve played in VorpX have been awesome. I prefer third-person games in VorpX Immersive Mode.

    Batman Arkham Knight
    Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order
    Resident Evil 2

It is a very frustrating situation.
I bought Vorpx mainly to play certain games like GTA4, GTA5, Red dead 2, bioshock or The Outer Worlds and it just so happens that the company that owns it is a b#####hit.
Luckily I discovered great experiences with vorpx with fallout/Elder scroll saga, but there is no guarantee that in a few months I will be able to play them due to similar circumstances…

I see that RDR2 has been taken off support!

    Can anyone share:
    -What happened?
    -When/if it might be back?
-Is there any alternatives to launching in Vorpx?
(I tried ‘Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order’ profile and Vorpx straight up messaged that the game isn’t supported! Can’t even run it in Desktop Viewer!!!).

    Please help me understand!

    Thank you so much!

This past weekend, prior to today’s update, I have been playing Fallout 76 in Geometry 3D mode.

Today, after installing the update, Geometry 3D looks the same as No 3D Reconstruction, with the exception that lighting effects and shadows shift location slightly, as if it’s trying to work but doesn’t properly kick in.

Z-Normal and Z-Adaptive work as before.

Perhaps the update changed some settings?
Or, is there a change that stopped Geometry working?

Appreciate any troubleshooting steps you can recommend.

Part of the problem is that different game engines produce wildly different amounts of 3D, and Ralf has expressed that he is (understandably) wary of increasing the range of the depth-slider as people will just crank it up and then complain that it’s all distorted (Z3D). IMHO it would be nice to be able to crank that slider up, however, for the titles that don’t produce much 3D effect, with a warning similar to what vorpX provides if you try to alter certain other settings such as curved-screen.

You can also try pushing the Near<->Far slider towards the Far side. As a general rule this will increase the overall 3D effect, but in many titles it doesn’t work well as you end up with a flat ‘near you’ scene and better 3D at distance (effectively the opposite of reality and very disconcerting). However, I have found some titles in which this works really well and does not produce the ‘flat near me’ effects (Vanilla Greedfall and TW3 with First Person Mod come to mind).

New to VorpX and, frankly, still learning… Like, I think I can just run any game and it ought to hook to VorpX and give me some kind of experience……. About to try.

Anyway, there are many games on here that I own and am excited to play, but two games I always fall back on to pass the time are not, so if anybody feels like making a profile for them that would be rad.

    ShootersPool

    and

PGA2k21, albeit 23 is out in a month or so…

I run a 3080 Ti and Alyx, TWD Saints and Sinners, Assetto Corsa, and a few others I can run at Wide FOV at 100% Steam SS or greater and at very high quality settings.

Sorry but I don’t believe it. I have all these games and a 3080 and I know there’s just no way. Maybe with reprojection. You only get smooth FPS in Alyx because it changes your resolution dynamically according to your performance so you’re not really running 100% SS there.

It wasn’t necessarily easy to get there, but yes, I do indeed get those resolutions and frame-rates. My 3080 Ti is a factory OC model that stays right around 2ghz under heavy load. . Assuming you aren’t CPU bound, however, you may be able to do something similar. Note that at one point I had to do a complete clean reinstall. Old PiTool versions or possibly even Windows updates had messed things up so badly that it was killing my performance.

Here are the titles I can run at Full FOV with no “Smart Smoothing” (I keep a spreadsheet of settings since getting this stuff all working right on Pimax equipment is such a PITA):

Alyx runs at 109% Steam SS at 90 fps except in one single battle scene (Fred? What’s that things name?) That’s with the auto-resolution setting left on and (you can defeat it through an ini tweak). You can also tweak it so you can see which resolution-setting you are actually getting real-time in the HMD. If I run at 75hz or 60hz I get additional clarity, as the title can use the higher-resolution modes more often, but it will maintain 90fps if I prefer the smoothness. IMHO this title is the way all VR games should work. It’s simply amazing how smoothly it transitions up and down those 5(?) resolution modes. If you don’t have it, make sure you use the tweaks for Alyx that remove the PP requirement.

TWDS&S runs at 90fps at 120% in-game SS, 75fps at 130%, and 60fps at 140% (resolution has a HUGE effect as you can see).

AC runs at 60fps at 104% Steam SS, but I don’t need any more performance than that for a seated racing sim. That’s with SOL+CSP+Rain effects at night with tons of special effects. If I wasn’t using all that eye-candy AC would easily hit 90fps and stay there.

Other titles I also run at Wide FOV at 100% or greater Steam SS with no smart smoothing are Dirt Rally 2 and Into the Radius. AFAIK you’ll never get *any* game that requires PP to run at Wide FOV at 90fps at 100% Steam SS. At least, nothing I’ve ever tried will do that. Dirt Rally 2 requires PP and I get 60fps at Wide FOV, 100% SS.

In terms of vorpX performance, that wipe and completely clean reinstall did wonders. I had all kinds of performance issues creep into my rig over time, and they hit vorpX performance worst of all. If you have a second drive you can play with, you might try setting that up as a boot drive, doing a clean install of Windows with only the most basic software you need to get things working, and do a test run to see if you suddenly get a massive performance uplift.

Also, Shadows are often a bigger performance hog than one might expect. In nearly all the title I’ve mentioned I probably have Shadows set to Medium or lower and I’ve also probably turned down particles, so it’s not like I’m getting that performance at Ultra settings across the board. I can usually get away with the highest quality textures and meshes however (if controls for such are available,) which I find very important.

I do wonder, however, how in the world we are going to drive the 12K (if it even becomes a real thing). That’s so many more pixels, and I just can’t stand less than 100% Steam SS, even with something like the VRPERFKIT installed for upscaling. To my eyes the image just falls apart at anything less than that. Here is hoping a 4090 can actually drive a 12K at 100% SS.

@TheLastStarfighter Z3D in-general has come a LONG way over the past five years or so. I also used to be absolutely unable to tolerate it in any title and could only use G3D. But vorpX and other solutions now offer some pretty good Z3D, sometimes extremely good. It is very game-engine dependent though. Definitely give it a try, and be willing to work a while with the settings. Title that come to mind off the top of my head that look fantastic in vorpX Z3D are Greedfall, Dragon Age Inquisition (and thus probably Mass Effect Andromeda, although I have not tried it yet), and The Witcher 3 with the first-person mod. Those titles are all excellent. (Witcher 3 could use a little more depth, but it’s OK, the other two have fantastic depth with surprisingly few Z3D artifacts.)

Some titles just work better in vorpX than others, and Greedfall has certainly been one of them for me. It’s a story-rich RPG that will probably appeal to persons who like Dragon Age etc. It has two things going for it that make it work well in vorpX (virtual cinema mode). First, it performs pretty darn well, and second, it’s engine is good enough that it also looks good. I’m managing a solid 60fps/60hz on my Pimax 8K-X at full 4K game resolution with only the need to turn shadows down. Every other quality setting is maxed. Turn the resolution down even a little and full-quality shadows are also fine. The TAA in this title is not the muddy-blurry mess it is in most games for some reason, so using the vorpX sharpening will get very crisp results.

    A few quick tips:
    1) Download the vorpX Cloud profile by domjacksonuk (thank you!). Make sure you are in Z3D Normal mode and that the depth is set to 1. Now set the near/far balance all the way to FAR: 100%. Now set the Focal Distance nearly as low as it will go; around 3 or so. At least for me this provides far and away the best results – surprisingly good 3D with few artifacts and excellent in cut scenes as well.
    2) Set the in-game FOV slider to the maximum. That seems perfect to me, so no need to tweak it with mods or ini files, IMHO.
    3) That’s about it, it’s a fairly good title without modding, although I do strongly recommend this particular Mod as it is a game-changer, allowing you to travel with additional party members: https://www.nexusmods.com/greedfall/mods/43 Follow the install instruction found in this post (just install it manually): https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/7994778-increase-party-size/?p=110975918

Make sure your controller is on when you start the game or it won’t detect it. It also has some bugged controller issues that have never been fixed, but it’s far from a game-breaker.

Jul_18_22 – Little Update on this Game

Please ignore the DGVoodo2 profile and use Deus ex: The Fall (G3D) instead. Vorpx
underwent some changes since 2019 which allowed me to fix the game properly now.

Note: The Dgvoodoo2 profile is still working but may not look as good as the new one.

Hi Ralf, I believe my issue has been solved.

I reinstalled fallout but this time I ran it through Vortex Mod Manager and it ran as normal. I then installed some of the Mods I use and ran the game again and it worked perfectly.

I believe my issues are with Mod Organizer 2

Thanks for your help and suggestions, Vortex from now on!

I don‘t really think the issue is related to ModManager per se, more likely some feature or option you have enabled or your general setup. I don‘t recall any similar issue and given how long Fallout 4 is supported, a general ModManager issue would certainly have come up.

Trying a different mod installer is one way to proceed, an entirely fresh install with a default ModManager setup might be another.

    (UPDATE)

I did as you suggested and fallout is working without Mod Manager 2. I got to run around for 2-3 minutes with a crash.

Great news apart from the fact Fallout 4 without Mods is like the Cinema without popcorn, Just doesn’t work…

Anything that can be done? Vortex? Anything????

I just gave fallout a full reinstall this morning as I seen you recommend someone else do a few years back. I really hope it’s not mod manager, Actully, I seen someone person uses it with Vortex, Any issue with known with Vortex?

Thanks for your reply, I’ll start that trouble shooting process when I learn about vortex and other mod managers.. Hopefully!
