I bought Vorpx 3 days ago. I bought it mostly to play fallout 4 as the VR version isn’t enough for me (Mods) but every time I play it – it crashes after about 20 seconds. The crash offers no error, it simply shouts down the game and I’m left looking at my desktop screen. (no error message)
For the past 3 days I’ve been going through this Vorpx forum trouble shooting my problem. So I believe I’ve tried everything that’s available to the public?
I’ve also imported Vorpx cloud profile after doing a full restore believing this would offer a good and basic setup. My GPU is running at between 40% and 60% and the game/vorpx crashes.
On the config menu device selection I’ve tried both Oculus and OpenVR, game/vorpx crashes
I launch the game through Mod Manager 2 using F4SE with no active mods or plugins running, But once I see a cockroach ingame at the settlement the game/vorpx crashes.
I’ve googled the problem, looked on redit also.
Incase it matters? I’m getting steady FPS in the few seconds I get to play, between 30-90 I guess, but the rendering isn’t good. due to image stretch? maybe?
I’m probably missing a heck of a lot of details here but any help would be welcomed. I’ve read people on this forum saying Vorpx is amazing etc. I would love to experience this software as they do!
Again, Any help would be welcomed
The main reason for not having two button actions for menu/edgepeek per default was/is that they are too hard to discover. Shouldn’t be a big deal to add them optionally though. No promises, but I’ll take a look at that.
That would be fantastic! Apart from that one issue, I’ve been loving Vorpx (best $40 I’ve spent in a long time.) Amazed at how well it works with most of what I’ve tried–even a few unsupported games like Everquest and Fallen Earth. The latter has a custom engine unfortunately so there aren’t any compatible profiles to my knowledge and thus the 3D effect doesn’t work (no Z3D in the options), but in first person with the head tracking it still feels much more immersive. So glad I learned about this program. Already have a friend on board as well, possibly 2.
Thanks for the work you do!
Oh Im so glad this is being implemented Ralf, and I love how you used Titanfall 2 as the example, the very game I will be using this for – a lot!
Is there any reason you couldn’t bind edgepeek and menu to a button combination (like L1 + R1)? It wouldn’t interfere with the in-game actions so much then. As it stands, I’ve almost died several times trying to run in Fallout 76 because I keep accidentally bringing up the menu button. If I change it to start/back, I’m actually unable to open the map because the game itself has a long press action for one of those buttons that interferes with it.
If a button combination option isn’t viable, could we at least have the option to re-map these binds on the gamepad (to whatever button we want), just as we do for the keyboard? Seems like that would be the best solution as it wouldn’t interfere with the default option but would allow us to change it to make it work seamlessly with whatever game we’re playing. Edgepeek is essential for most fullVR games as it’s nearly impossible to navigate menus without (for me anyway) and it’s a pain to have to constantly search for my mouse or keyboard with my VR headset on. This simple addition would make using a gamepad much more enjoyable.
Anyway, just a thought.

Funny, i love Bethesda games so much. I played Fallout 4 several times, many hundret of hours, loved Oblivion but for some stange reason i was through Skyrim within just a few days. Perhaps i expected abit too much from the game, perhaps i didnt like the same voices on every corner, donno. The graphics werent kicking as promised from reading through the web,too somehow.
@dborosev can you give us a list of those 30 Mods that work with vorpx ? ( May save some time with experimenting )
There are two kinds of positional tracking:
1. The default G3D pos tracking: pro: works with any G3D game in principle, con: may introduce visual glitches (and often does in newer games with complex shadow/lighting systems).
2. DirectVR pos tracking (where available): pros: also works with Z3D, no visual glitches by design, con: as always with the memory scanner, scanning may fail occasionally.
If the default pos tracking works well enough in a game, you don‘t really have to worry about a DirectVR pos tracking fail. Provided default G3D pos tracking is enabled in a profile, vorpX automatically falls back to that when a scan failed.
I am actually playing it myself at this moment and i am using a PS4 controller, which works flawlessly with Fallen Order as well with other games like Desperados 3, the Resident Evil 2 Remake etc.
Tried your ps5 controller with other games in vorpX? Probably a ps4 controller solves it after all.
Hi,
I want to play Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order with my controller (not with KB/Mouse) and in vorpx immersive screen and with no head tracking. Therefore, i run the game (which looks brilliant in vorpx, i might add) and turn head tracking multiplier all the way down (i.e. 0). i choose immersive screen mode, and i turn off the override x-box gamepad option. So, basically just using vorpx for the 3D environment, and the controller as if i were gaming without vorpx. but the controller does not work. When i push and hold the PS button and move the sticks, i get the camera rotation, but thats it. Im thinking that vorpx is using my controller as a KB/Mouse alternative in this situation? is there a way to just completely disable KB/Mouse and have the system default to using the controller the way it would typically?
thank you!

The geometry is the selling point for me – ive played Fallout4 modded for nearly 3 years solid now, its without a doubt my favourite game. I think mostly due to the fact that i can change and tweak things and alter bits to suit how i want to play.
Vorpx is the icing on the cake for this game – i can play it and be IN it – the geometry is without a doubt the golden lining for me. Im running my 2060 RTX now on 1368×1440 windowed game res, and thats nice and sharp and REASONABLY playable in most areas – ive been used to 25-35 fps machines so its not bad for me.
Well ive been tweaking and testing for a little while now, and scouring these forums and a few other sites ive hit some interesting issues.
My Vive + Vorpx configuration seems to work the best when the custom window size is TALLER rather than wider – odd but the pixel density is tightest like this.
For some odd reason, the picture quality is AMAZING in geometry when i run FO4 with a custom resolution of 1080×1440. (window, set in Nvidia custom res.)
If i lower the height of the window, i get bad pixelation – but with that exact height, i get really good quality, and the fps is 45-65 with geometry on, full vr.
Im happy to run it like this, it looks amazing and plays well, minor stutter in heavy built up places.
Im interested in finding out why the geometry stutters so badly at higher resolutions, and depending on where you are looking – the Nuka world dlc map in Fallout has very little structures in it, so the fps is decent enough to run Geometry in 1920×1440 res at 45 fps – but as soon as i enter an area with houses or lots of trees it tanks. Is it the cpu or gpu thats struggling here? Should i be lowering texture resolution or finding LOD / draw distance tweaks?
Im basically trying to figure out the best way to tweak my config files for each mode.
Z3d is ALOT faster, as i read many times here, but i cant make the 3d look “right”, and the config files from the cloud ive tried dont seem to make the picture look natural – there is a lot of distortion.
I downloaded a cloud profile for “Ark Survival Evolved” called “The Isle” and this put Ark on a curved screen, a slight distance from the VR “centre” and has geometry and Z3d support and looks amazing, but i cant seem to simulate that with Fo4 – different games and all that i know.
If i can run Z3d with a decent enough looking depth that would be awesome, but i cant get Fo4 or Skyrim to look like 3d – i either end up with depth but strange mirror like halos around everything, or i get a cardboard cut out like depth XD
Is there some sort of generic guide here that i havent found about the basics of the Z3d mode and what sort of settings im looking at? A sort of, set this to this, and slide that to that and then adjust this bar to get the depth type guide?
I took a break from gaming – about 2 months. When I came back, my controller doesnt seem to be working the way it used to in VorpX. Im using a PS5 controller connected via blueteeths and, sometimes, usb cable (if BT doesnt work for whatever reason). It always simply worked with PC games (via Steam) and with VorpX. Some games required me to turn off Xbox Controller Support but now when I do that, it just no longer works. (When playing outside of VorpX, the controller works fine, so this issue is just in VorpX). Interestingly enough, one game works fine (Days Gone), but not the others ive tried (Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, and Mass Effect Legendary MS1/2).
I notice that when I hold down the PS button, the right thumb stick works as a mouse, and right and left bumper 1’s work (zoom and shoot). So that tells me there is some form of kb/mouse thing going on. But these games worked fine a few months back. Now, nothing. I tried also switching to ‘game pad’ in the menu, (where you can select gamepad / KB/Mouse etc.) as well as all the Xbox Controller Support Options (off, partial, hide, full etc.) and nothing.
Any assist is greatly appreciated!
Ben
As far as mods are concerned the best rule of thumb is avoiding anything that hooks into the graphics pipeline as this tend to cause conflicts with vorpX (which does the same). Post FX mods, shader mods etc. typically fall into this category. A good indicator of whether a mod has the potential to cause trouble is whether it puts any DLL in the game folder, which usually means that the mod hooks into the game similar to vorpX.
Also camera mods are to be avoided in games where vorpX handles the FOV or applies head tracking via its memory scanner function.
Most other mods usually work, but of course there is no guarantee for that. If in doubt, first try without mods, then add mods in batches to easily find an offending one.
