This is awesome can’t wait to play on my vive and try some of the newer profiles. Also hope that we get a lot of profile sharing going on.

I do want to post some caution to every one thinking VorpX is going to make all their favorite games prefect in VR.

I’ve been using VorpX for a while. (A few years on my DK2) while I think it’s worth the price (for me) you need to understand there are limitations.
First of all these games were not made for VR. Depending on the game this can cause huge issues, including not being able to finish because something breaks or won’t render properly for you to see it.

Also there can be major performance issues making the game unplayable in G3D mode (with positional tracking) you might need to switch to Z3d mode and that does not look as good in most games (theater mode is also an option)

A lot of games need mods (like GtA 5, skyrim) to make the game look proper in VR. Also FOV can be an issue and usually needs to be changed.
Also head tracking can some times might not work correctly since mouse look is programmed to move you when the mouse is moving (Star Wars battlefront)
It’s rare that you can launch VorpX and then the game and not need to tinker. You will most likely need to take some time to get games to work good in VR. It can been a pain, but a lot times your are rewarded with a pretty good VR experience. Other times you just need to give up and go into theater mode or not play the game in VR at all.

As long as you know what you are getting into and you have a least one game that works well with VorpX and VR it will be worth it.

Thanks for the warning Ralf. I was tempted to roll the dice but figured I’d hold off. So it’s mostly your built in desktop/theater that is hanging up in the transition from Oculus Home. Any type of log you could use to look at?

Hello! Oculus shipping is around the corner and i think i can finally fulfill my long dream about experiencing Dark Messiah of Might and Magic in VR. I have waited this since 2008. I ordered the freaking Trimersion back in days because i didn’t know any better back then.

So anybody knows how well this game is working with VorpX? Anybody have the game and can test it with VorpX 0.9? That game is just freaking amazing and it goes to “you need to play it” -category.

This game works great in geometry 3D. My settings:
    Steam Start Options: -console
    and paste in console:
    bind “w” “+forward;sv_cheats 1;fov 120;viewmodel_fov 120”

    because bow zoom resets fov

    Pixel Ratio 1:1 in VorpX

You can’t see the HUD, but its playable.

Of course changing the FOV (field of view) makes a difference, it actually makes THE difference. The latest post on this thread before yours was from June, 7th. If this was an unsolvable issue, there would probably a lot more posts about this.

If you can’t see a difference, something went wrong. If a game normally uses an FOV of 75 for example, it looks very narrow and zoomed in, but if you set the FOV to 120 successfully, you have an FOV that is equal to what see in native Rift applications, nothing is zoomed in anymore afterwards.

That is possible in many games, but not all. vorpX also provides workarounds if it’s not possible in a game.

From best to worst here is what you can do (taken from the Essential Game Hints in the vorpX help):

    1. Set the game FOV directly in the game if it provides to dial in an FOV of 120°.
    2. Set the game FOV directly with the vorpX Game Settings Optimizer (vorpX config app) for games that support it.
    3. Set the game FOV to 120 manually through an ini tweak or external tool (avaliable for many games, google FOV + game name).
    4. Set the game resolution to a 4:3 or 5:4 aspect ratio mode. 1280×960 for example. In many games this helps with FOV.
    5. Use the 3D FOV Enhancement in the vorpX ingame menu (availabe in Geometry 3D games).
    6. Use one of the letterbox aspect ratio modes in the vorpX ingame menu and/or ImageZoom.
    7. Play the game in Virtual Cinema Mode (can be enabled in the vorpX ingame menu).
    8. Use the 2D FOV-Enhancement in the vopX ingame menu (be aware that this distorts the image).

Well actually I did most of that last night. I applied the vorpx optimisations to each game. I was able to press F4 in Dishonored and that worked. Metro LL no way. No amount of FOV modding (including the .ini) made even the slightest difference. The games that are zoomed in look normal (good) in theater mode) or when using the peek feature (mouse M).

I had also used vorpx FOV controls and that helped slightly but Borderlands and Metro LL were still far too zoomed in.

As soon as I adjusted IPD in-game vorpx on Metro LL it looked normal for the first time. Increased stereo depth too.

By the way… I’d also changed the vorpx aspect ratios last night and none of them helped the extrem zoomed-in look.

So now the game is set to 90 via .ini and adjusted IPD and it looks good. As I said.. setting the FOV to 120 via .ini last night didn’t help at all.

    Hi again,
to you first point, they call the feature VRboost and the feature is described like this:

…to reduce latency to bare minimum, to make it possible to separate head tracking from mouse control, to allow game controllers to properly function…

and since I tried a few games it seems to work

to the second, I tried borderlands 2 and bioshock infinite again and the Hud is still in the lower left and upper right corner, where I can´t see it without “edge peek,” but I don`t know if this is the case in other games
(this is how borderlands 2 looks in the other driver with Hud moved into vision)
    <img src=”http://www.theriftarcade.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Vireio-Perception-Borderlands.jpg&#8221; alt=”” />

to the third, not the default value is the problem for me, but the lack of a calibration tool
    (like this one)
    <img src=”http://www.mtbs3d.com/wiki/images/thumb/d/dd/Normal_defaultsettingsSHOCT.jpg/700px-Normal_defaultsettingsSHOCT.jpg&#8221; alt=”” />

to the fourth, your right, I didn´t thought about the Game Optimizer

to the fifth, I didn´t change any settings and you even mentioned the fisheye effect yourself, you said that smart AR introduces vertical distortion, but others said too that it´s also a problem in other modes.
    <a href=”https://www.vorpx.com/forums/topic/fisheyeimage-warping/”></a&gt;
This problem becomes less obvious with a higher fov (but is still noticeable) and might be only bothering me (it´s not that game breaking as it might sound in my first post). I`ll try changing some options again and see if this will help.

to the last, with “more time,” I meant creating the VRboost profile since they need cheat engine for them (tried to make my own profile and it took an enormous amount of time, more than the shader profile), but I never created Vorpx profiles, so I don`t know how much work it is, so I´ll just believe you.

I dont think VorpX is a bad driver and I appreciate how much work you put into this and I also appreciate the features that you add with every release. I have much fun with the cinema mode, which works really well and is perfect for third person games and if you calibrate the driver right (head tracking, 3D depth ...), the normal mode can also be an enjoyable experience (if you pause now and then and dont move your head quick, to prevent motion sickness).

My first post (maybe even this one) may seem a bit harsh because I mostly mentioned problems, but I didn´t want them to seem insignificant and I also didn´t write my opinion or conclusion.

And my conclusion is that VorpX is still a beta driver and all problems can be fixed and even in this state the experience can be enjoyable. Compared to the other driver, VorpX isn´t the losing one (even if it may sound like this), the other driver got rid of many of the problems I mentioned here, but VorpX has more features, a bigger forum, is definitely more user-friendly, has (in my opinion) a better “basis” and therefore more potential (Both have there pros and cons).

And to answer the question, yes it has added enough (many) features, like position tracking, (I think) the game optimizer, fov enhancement, updated profiles… to be an enjoyable experience (as mentioned above).

Official word on this is that you do multiplayer gaming with vorpX at your own risk.

That said there have been no reports of someone getting banned so far with vorpX over the last year that I am aware of, so you will most likely be safe. Still, it’s up to you whether you want to take the risk.

Currently there isn’t anything in vorpX that could seriously considered to be a cheat. This will change soon though as positional tracking is unlocked in more games. Positional tracking like done in vorpX will almost certainly be seen as cheat, since it allows you to see through walls. Do NEVER use vorpX with positional tracking enabled in a multiplayer game. A feature like this would cause anticheat problems with any driver, nVidia included. A warning in this regard will be added to the vorpX start screen.

Iv been having the same issues as you when trying to get the gamepad to work properly. The way vorpx handles gamepad imputs doesnt alow for deep customization which is fine since there are programs like xpadder that fill that need. However the problem still persists because the internal gamepad seems to have inputs for buttons that simply cant be remapped and it seems to be causing problems with xpadder. When I start a game the gamepad works flawlessly but as soon as I hit the left thumbstick it brings up a weird vorpx menu with numbers that dont seem to serve any function and after I close that all my buttons are messed up. I cant run anymore, sheathing weapons makes me run forward indefinitely and the start and select buttons do other random things.

As a side note, these issues seem to only affect skyrim and farcry 3 as apposed to bioshock infinite, borderlands 2 and COD MW3 which work flawlessly.

I think part of the problem was 1. the recent news update, plus 2. your past history of updating.

    1. The recent “preview” screamed as if a new version of vorpX had Skyrim working with positional tracking. I know I bought it just for that reason, and I know now others have as well. Even though it stated in the article that it technically wasn’t out. The impression gave, that it was just around the corner.

    2. From reading other comments on this forum, it seemed like you have done this before. You released the product, got a bunch of sales, and then didn’t update for a very long time. Although in this case, you didn’t release anything, and I bet you got a bump in sales with that article.

Teasing Skyrim as working with positional tracking, and then saying well I have no timeline on when it will be released, makes it appear as if you are not even close to having it ready, or your starting from scratch, which is opposite of what the recent article and video imply.

If this was free software, or much cheaper, I think most people could stomach the long release times. And I know I’ll probably get flamed for sounding impatient. But, at what point in software development, where you are taking peoples money beforehand, do you say, this isn’t right. And I am not basing this off of the DK2 update only because you are right in saying it hasn’t been that long. I am referring to vorpX since the beginning.

I think the advice given was fair. It would be better to provide smaller, more frequent updates, instead of giant releases. Having a Skyrim only update would suffice for many, since apparently you have most of it worked out according to the video. Even if things were messed up, it should still be playable, and we could look forward to updates when it is all fixed up.

I too have no way of really using your software after I bought it. No rotational or positional tracking for DK2 in any game I’ve tried.

I have no issue waiting for software, but the price of admission, and the amount of time you take to update seems dubious. I feel cheated giving $40 for something that doesn’t work much at all. I know that is my personal opinion, but I also know I am not the only person with that opinion.

I do want to say that I appreciate your customer service. It’s been really good.

vorpX is publically available for over three months now, and we didn’t hear of a single case so far where someone was banned, or even warned because of using vorpX. There are no guarantees though. So if you don’t want to risk anything, stick to single player modes.

That being said, Punkbuster and others would have to ban a lot of people if they would ban anyone who uses some kind of DirectX hook for image enhancement etc., so the chance of being classified as cheater when using vorpX is rather slim. Judging from my own experience I would say playing with the Rift is the opposite of a cheat. ;) But as said above, no guarantees.

DayZ Standalone doesn’t work currently BTW, the necessary profile was added a few days ago and will be available with the next update.

    All,

One concern I have with this software is the Steam VAC and Punkbuster protection mechanisms built into online games.  With using this driver are we confined to local, single player games (oh I sure hope to god not)?  Has this been tested in multiplayer games?  Are the anti-cheat systems aware of VorpX and have the details been worked out so that players are not blacklisted for using this driver online?

If this driver will work online without the worry of blacklist detection then we are good to go, but I would really stress that the VAC and Punkbuster systems need to know about this prior to going live with it.

Major buzzkill to get this driver only to find out your account has been blacklisted due to the driver being used online.

Anyone have thoughts on this or feedback?
