I know you just released some amazing updates lately, we have now a lot of games to play in VR using vorpx and that’s great.
But i am very curious to know about wether or not we can hope for latest API/engines in the future, even if it’s a far future.
As you surely know, more and more games are going to be developped with those engines/API, for example wolfenstein the new colossus is vulkan only game, great game, wish we could play is in VR with vorpx.
And i would gladly pay another full Vorpx price for such support.

I am seconding that I would be willing to pay for Unreal Engine 4 and Vulkan support with an upgrade fee. I would also tell people how awesome it is even if it is just cinema mode since that is amazing in 3D and I’ll be sure to stress how under rated it is. Also if all you can do is Z buffer for Unreal Engine 4 games, that would still be amazing.

Today i did some serious testing with my GTX970 and i figured as higher the resolution the better the image quality, speaking here about resolutions above 1920×1440 (90FPS), i tested up to 2880×2160. I reached a stable 45 FPS at 2240×1680 , a very few framedrops at 2520×2268. 2880×2160 locked best but lower then 45 FPS with permanent framedrops. ( Unreal 3 Engine )
Now since the 1080 TI is 150% faster then the 970 what exactly can i expect from that and what does 150% exactly mean ?
i guess i am wrong when i calculate 45 FPS * 150 % = 67.5 FPS , am i ?

There is a game i have just added to the engine list called “Off-Road Drive” from 2011 using the Unreal 3 Engine. I would guss this game should habe G3D. Unfortunately the game seems only to be availiable through “Steam”.
Interesting that Unreal 2 works with 3D Vision. May be the Engine has either DX8,1 which seems to be a half DX 9, or its recognized as DX9 by 3D Vision or 3D Vison supports DX 8,1 period. Even the web says UN2 is DX8.0
Hello everyone, i’m a college student from Italy and since 1 year i’m partecipating to a medical research about treatments through virtual reality. The virtual enviroments we use are developed a lot time ago by a San Diego studio using Unreal Engine 2. We have new enviroments in developing by UE4, finally with native VR supporting, but in meantime wanna start a new trial using the old UE2 enviroments with an Oculus Rift DK2.
So we bought vorpX and tried it successfully with Fallout 4, but the UE2 didn’t work; the enviroment start normally, but vorpX didn’t hook it. I tried to optimize settings for Thief Gold, which use the same engine, but vorpX didn’t recognize the path of the folder of the UE2. And that’s all.
There’s hope to make it run? I’ll attach a screen of the installation folder of enviroments if @Ralf or someone of you could find some useful hints. Thanks all guys!

After having gotten an almost perfect 1:1 setting yesterday, my game crashed and I had to reinstall. I think I broke it somehow.
Since then I am having trouble getting the headset go back to the central position after looking around. It is quite disorientating. Fortunately you can map a recenter button to the controller in the Unreal menu.
At 1440p (custom resolutions dont work, 1440p is nvidia DSR resolution), right now I use 0.53 headtracking, 0.2 3d fov enhancement. It isn’t great though. And there is a lot of judder on my system. We could do with an official profile. Still it is the best way to play Unreal by far.
@Ralf, any chance of official support for Unreal?
I was using 2560 x 1440, but it judders a lot. Need to mess with drivers. I think it will depend on your pc/headset setup. I seem to remember custom resolutions working well in vorpx but dont know if unreal supports it. Bioshock for example would let me use an 8:9 or something resolution. Will test and get back to you. 16:9 is kind of a waste cos the edges arent visible.
Ok, so I got it working pretty well.
In addition to the above points.
4) In Unreal disable mouse smoothing, set mouse speed to 1.0.
5) Disable crosshair. You can do it through the old Unreal 1 menu, or by doing this.

6) Enable joystick in Unreal. Turn off Looking Up/Down (forgot what the option is called) in vorpx in-game menu.
… probably forgot something but I think that is the gist of it.
With the mouse set to 1.0 headtracking sensitivity might need changing a little to get 1:1 movement.
Sorry that wasn’t written very clearly. Using a phone. Basically:
1) Change your unreal.exe to haloce.exe
2) Launch and set up your game for vr. Resolution, font size, etc.
3) Press delete and select geometry 3d. Add 3d effect to your liking.
That is pretty much as far as I got. Dont know the ideal settings yet for mouse speed, fov etc, but ill investigate and edit this.
I had to come give further props to Ralph and vorpX. I’ve used it for a long time, ever since I got my DK2 when those first shipped. It’s always worked, and been a great tool to enjoy non VR games in VR. I got a Vive now and am going over all my favorites to see how they play now. I tried the direct VR in a few games and it worked great as an easy solution to just tweaking settings like the old days. But when I ran it in Fallout 3 I about fainted.
I have to say vorpX has really, really knocked my socks off yet again. After running the direct scan in Fallout 3, it just feels like your actually transported into the wasteland. The FOV gets set, the position locates you and bam your there… Its damn near perfect 1 to 1. Crystal clear image, the best image quality in an injected game I have ever seen. The vanilla textures even look good in VR! They’re muddy up close but the clarity of the image and the fact that parallax textures now work in 3D and you got a feast for the eyes.
The room scale works so good I’m actually stunned. You can use cover, peek around corners, walk around and browse and loot. Its unreal how good they got it working for this game. This feels as close to a native game as your going to get. Sure there are some issues with UI and CTDs but that’s more a Fallout issue then vorpx. Really need to patch the memory and get some other UI mods to see if I cant solve these few issues..
I was so floored by how amazing it worked that I ended up playing until 5am two nights in a row. I haven’t even tested out mods because I cant resist popping back in to Fallout 3 VR. Its just so damn good, its freaky…. Really guys, if your half a Fallout fan you must try It in Direct VR. Even if you think you’ve played it with older vorpx versions, try it now, you wont be disappointed.
One thing you could check is whether you maybe force VSync in your graphics driver control panel. vorpX normally takes care of that, but it can’t hurt to check. Also check whether you maybe have antialising forced in the graphics driver. If so, disable that too. Can cause framerate issue with a handful of Unreal engine games.
If you still see a 45fps lock after checking the above and having FluidSync disabled, vorpX cannot be the cause. In that case for whatever reason the Oculus runtime decides to throttle. Older games like FEAR or HL2 run with higher framerates easily normally.
That is definitely not how it’s supposed to be. Mass Effect 2/3 should work just fine, including the videos.
One thing you could try is resetting your graphics driver settings to default in the driver’s control panel. With some Unreal Engine games there is a huge framerate drop with forced antialiasing, maybe that’s the issue here. Just a guess, but worth a try.
Outlast for some time was a fairly popular vorpX title, there certainly is no general performance issue with it, should run at steady 45fps using a decent resolution (1600×1200) with a much slower GPU than yours.
What I would recommend is resetting your graphics driver settings in the nVidia control panel to default and make sure that antialising is disabled in the game if it has such an option. Some Unreal Engine 3 games suffer a severe FPS loss with vorpX when AA is enabled. I don’t recall Outlast to be among them, but I wouldn’t rule it out either.
More general: although that shouldn’t be necessary for Outlast on your machine, it’s always worth to consider Z3D in games that don’t perform well with G3D. Doesn’t look as natural, but is a lot faster.
Halo 2 reminds me strongly on Unreal 1, escpecially the creatures.

I had originally set up Unreal for triple monitors so my FOV and other settings were already altered, I just copied the folder from my old computer to my current one – I didn’t really alter the Vorpx settings or make a profile. Just getting a nice FOV for the weapon
I may revisit this, since I would like to play Klingon Honour Guard and DS9 The Fallen. They are also unreal engine games. When I do I’ll upload a profile.
By the way you may still be crazy, but not as far as Unreal on Vorpx goes…
