Everyone who has been waiting to play Alien Isolation in VR properly (currently only Oculus Rift) can now start enjoying in VR with still some limitations, but totally playable…in seated position only, currently.
Check out this link.
1) Set field of view to 100. Do this by editing ENGINE_SETTINGS.XML file in notepad.
You will probably find the file in this directory.
D:\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Alien Isolation\DATA
But you may have installed it to a different drive.
Then add in this line to the file.
<Quality name=”100″ precedence=”8″ float=”100.0″/>
You should place the line, under this heading, which you will find in the file.
-<Setting name=”Field Of View”>
Save the file!
2) Run VorpX
3) Run Alien Isolation
4) Go to options > Video and set resolution to 1280×1024, and set field of view to the new 100 option.
5) Press “del” and in the VorpX settings set the 3d mode to Z-adaptive. This is because Geometry 3d has (for me at least) different shadows and lighting in each eye – which look terrible!
6) Play the game! (and hope it doesn’t crash!)
That’s as far as I’ve got!
When I set my game to this FOV it zooms in super far and is impossible to play. If I set it back to 75 I can see again but its very zoomed out. Anyone else have this?
Hi same problem as usual with certain games.
Error message :
The game shows: cant find .exe, or game exe takes too long to load , execution error (Dishonored series ,GTA5)
The solution is to pause vorpx and as soon as the launcher closes its window, resume vorpx.
I do have that problem with certain games : Gtav,Skyrim,Dishonored (1 and 2)
whereas Skyrim Se ,Fallout and Alien Isolation start without that pause trick.
I guess the game start too fast and vorpx cant hook that fast.
Some dude is releasing an Alien Isolation mod very soon. He said so a few days ago, so people could buy it on sale if interested. That will probably be much better than Vorpx, so I suggest waiting until that releases.
I bought Alien isolation again (ps4 before) just to be able to play it in my cv1, but vorpx doesn’t seem to hook on to any game I have in steam, far cry from the uplay launcher works fine but no games in steam. Help? I have launched it separate from steam and launched as administrator and it doesn’t matter, the game is already configured for the headset.
Hi Ralf,
Are there and changes regarding the gamepad override with the last update?
Since the update i cant get it to work properly with Alien Isolation .
Importing user Cloud Profiles for both ‘Alien Isolation’ and ‘Bioshock Infinite’ gives no new entry (blue or otherwise) in the Local list.
I do have some user Cloud Profiles that have successfully appeared in blue in the Local list, ‘Enderal’ and ‘Resident Evil 7’ for example.
I think you are playing it in cinema mode, do you find yourself in a big room, sitting on a couch with a controller in your hands, playing on a big screen TV ? If so, you need to turn off Virtual Cinema Mode and enable Normal or Adaptive Z-buffer from 3D Reconstruction menu.
Besides that, in order to get native like feeling in VorpX games and objects to appear at normal size/scale, you need to increase the FOV manually from games menus (if available), config or ini files or use a 3-rd party tool, designed for that game. Also display resolution is key. I can confirm that if u set almost any game properly in Vorpx (some take more time, some take less than 5 minutes) they will be displayed like a VR native game or very close. For details of how to set resolution and FOV properly please read this:

As for performance, I’m not sure how u set Half Life 2, to get terrible performance on GTX 1080. I played Half Life 2 + ep 1 and 2 at a constant 90 fps on a GTX 1070 and i7 CPU. Same goes for Alien Isolation where the performance wasn’t always 90, but now, with Oculus’ Asynchronous Spacewarp (ASW) which requires only 45 fps I’m sure it will run just fine.
alien isolation looks like im playing on a big 3d screen, its supposed to be in this way? a i really regreat to purchase vorpx software, all games i try the things looks big, only one has the perfect 1;1 ratio like native games was half life 2 , but the performance its terrible on my gtx 1080
I’m gonna make it a top 10 😉
1. Alien Isolation
2. Dead Space 1-3
3. Dying Light
4. Stalker COP Misery Mod
5. Metro 2033 and Last Light
6. Half Life 2
7. Outlast
8. Fallout: New Vegas
9. Battlefield 3-4
10. The Witcher 3 (only a part on cinema mode)
Unplayed, potentialy top 5: Mass Effect 1-3, Skyrim SE, Splinter Cell 3, GTA 5, Dishonored, Bioshock, Portal 1-2

is there a fix for the shadows? iam just trying to make alien isolation look good
I just wanted to share how awesome Dishonored in VR is. The atmosphere and gameplay lends itself perfectly for VR. The cutscenes makes me a little quezzy, but mapping edge peek to my controller fixed that. Vorpx is becoming so good that the line between Native and hooked-in games is truly thinning out. Even though I decided not to use Direct VR, because of the many issues with scanning I am enjoying myself in manual setting where positional and headtracking seems almost perfect. From what I can tell from people who played Resident Evil 7 VR in PS4 this seems to be up there with it. And it is certainly better than the semi native VR for Alien Isolation I played back in the DK2 days. I truly hope Ralf keeps updating and advancing this app and I personally feel I have gotten more bang for my buck with Vorpx than with any other VR pruchases so far.
Exactly.
Although we may be able to reach an agreement with one of these propositions, and end up getting an improved result,as far as possible.
The comment above, by Benobi user, I find very interesting.
Probably a good idea, do some testing with Oculus Cv1 and Elder Scrolls Online and Alien Isolation for this possible functionality.
In any case,it is appreciated that you consider some option, although no promises are possible.
