    Hi Ralf,
is it possible to add an option for adjust the width and height of the screen separately ? For example , Alien isolation – the screen is too much zoomed. The only option at the moment is to zoom out, with the result that black bars appear above and below.

I got Alien: Isolation (almost) perfect with the exception of shadows…. tried reducing quality to really low and looked into removing them completely through the xml file but to no avail.

    Hi Jim,

Thanks for responding. I get this error with Bioshock, Bioshock 2, Bioshock Infinite, Mirror’s Edge and Alien Isolation. I got the same missing dll error as well. The workaround isn’t that great because most of the time I’m not quick enough to resume the watcher in time for it to properly hook. The Steam games that still work are Skyrim, The Forest, Borderlands 2 and Fallout 4. Thanks for the info about the log. I’ll let you know if I figure anything out.

    Peace \/

I recently bought VorpX because I’ve seen a lot of videos where people were amazed about using it with GTA V, Skyrim, & Alien Isolation.

Well, I barely got GTA V to work. There’s still a lot of tweaking involved but I’m wondering if it’s even worth it because I am very disappointed. From what I have seen I would not call it virtual reality at all. I would say it’s more like you’re playing a 3D movie with head tracking and the screen stays in front of you.

I get that these games are not native to VR. But I expected better than this because these games are programmed using models/assets/sprites. So why can’t it actually look like you are placed in the space rather than feeling like you are interacting with a 3D video?

Honestly, I hope I am just doing something wrong and someone can point me in the right direction because I am very let down by the experience.

Hello, although I have talked a little about this step on another topic for a specific game,I have decided to create this proposal,to ask if it is technically possible,or consult opinions about it. Open to any discussion :)

It seems to be that we have some modern games that have a hard time getting narrower aspect ratios (some more than others) when it comes to better adapting to the headset screens and probably more games in the future continue these trends.
    (Elders scrolls online,Alien isolation,RE7 e.t.c.)

I am thinking of a secondary solution for these cases, and I would like to know if it is technically possible,if it is feasible to enter it in the next update.
In the aspect modes section of Vorpx internal menu, we have the options:
    Pixel 1:1, letterbox 1, letterbox 2, strech.

I would like to know, if possible increase a little wider, the strech mode.
Increase it a little but without turning it into a letterbox 1,but rather a value between these 2,or create a new mode between these two.
I think this could help with some games and having one more option is always good.

If there is any response from the developer on this subject, grateful.

Dreadhalls was a good native one that used keyboard and mouse. I’m not sure if it requires touch now but it used to be mouse/keyboard. Alien Isolation was also really great but the VorpX profile takes some tweaking to get it looking good. If you are looking just to jump scare your friends and laugh at them “Emily Wants to Play” has keyboard/mouse support.

I’m using an old ancient version but here’s the top choice cuts in my book:
    1) Skyrim (completely modable, highly tunable, 95% perfect)
    2) Bioshock Infinite (outstanding visuals, great gameplay and story)
    3) Fallout New Vegas (like Skyrim highly modable and tunable)
    4) Grand Theft Auto 5 (highly tunable/modable, great visuals and gameplay)
    5) Dishonored (Great visuals, ganmeplay and story, DLC is fantastic)

    honorable mentions are:
    Alien Isolation
    Dying Light

    Hello,

It would be grateful if the lighting issue can be fixed in the next patch. I remember playing AI on oculus rift runtime 0.8 natively couple of years ago.

For now i must use vorpx, however the geometry 3d setting is glitchy. If this could be fixed then i must say that supersampling makes it much better than the native resolution.

If there is a fix for this, please do share!!

    Thanks!!

I used profile from Alien Isolation. No good, flickers. FOV was limited. It had geometry turned on, but didn’t appear immersive. Not like in Fallout 4, which is incredible. I wonder if FOV hack (cheat engine) works, but then you’d have the flickering.

Something for people to try, in the case where G3D is not supported, and you are plaing in Cinema mode. Not sure if its just my imagination, but its seems like if I really increase the eye separation to around 1.8 or so with some games, it almost looks as good as G3D. Its not a substitute for G3D for sure, but something to try if you have no other option. I noticed this in alien isolation most recently. Looks really good, combined with a very wide FOV.
Seems to work better for first person games and not 3rd person, as it can make things look small.

    Hello first time here.

I bought a Rift a few weeks ago and so far have only used it with Elite Dangerous. I first set it up with Steam VR but seems I can just use the Oculus application.

If I understand correctly, VorpX is not replacing these applications right ? It is inserted somewhere between the game and the Oculus application ?

Although I intend to buy VorpX if only just for Skyrim and Alien Isolation eventually, I wonder if it can do anything for me in Elite. Specifically, some graphical stuff like distant stars rendered as red and green streaks, but mostly the possibility to take notes or consulting PDF documents without having to pause/leave the game (apparently Elite doesn’t like alt-tabbing to and from it…).

Anyone ever find a decent fix to the lights issue in alien isolation? (Besides dropping down to Z3D)
Geometry is the only way to go for these close quarters games.

Hi Guys, Alien Isolation I can see is awesome, took some tweaking with the settings but I now have it running on 3 monitors 5860×1080.
    Here is what I did;
    Downloaded the following files,

    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=324612199
    Download these 2 files;

    Alien: Isolation – Modded Settings[dl.dropboxusercontent.com]
    Alien: Isolation – Original Settings[dl.dropboxusercontent.com]

from the above steam link, make a copy of the original file.

In the local files in Vorpx (v17.1.2) configuration choose AI from the local files and apply it.
Start AI via desktop or steam, it may crash first time but run it again.
In the game settings I have FOV=90.
    Then in the game press del (Vorpx menu) and set the following;

    Main Settings
    ————-
    3D reconstruction = Geometry
Seperation (3D strength) = 5.00 (set yours accordingly)
    3D FOV enhancement = 1.50

    Head Tracking Settings
    ———————-
    HT Sensitivity = 1.00
HT Pos. Tracking Strength = 1.00

    Mouse/Gamepad Settings
    ———————-
    Disable Mouse Acceleration = Yes
    Override xbox gamepad = Partial
    Override Left Thumbstick = On
    Override Right Thumbstick = On
    Left Stick X Sensitivity = 0.20
    Left Stick Y Sensitivity = 0.20
    Left Stick Deadzone = 0.15
    Right Stick X Sensitivity = 0.30
    Right Stick Y Sensitivity = 0.30
    Right Stick Deadzone = 0.00

My machine spec is i7 6700k 4Ghz, 32Gb ram, 480 Corsair ram, GTX1060 oc, GA-Z170X Gaming 3 motherboard, liquid cooled.
    All settings on ultra.

Don’t forget that you may have to tweak them depending on your machine.

    Have fun 🙂

With regards to the scanner being off the screen that boils down to the written software, so you need to use edge peek.

Here is a link to a video of AI from me on Youtube.

The quality is poorer than when I play it but I have no idea as to why Youtube does that!

    Hey guys,

I had the same problem as you initially. Here are the steps to get Alien Isolation running with Rift CV1 (at least those that worked for me), but this process should work for any game that’s supported.

First thing you need to be sure of is that you load Vorpx FIRST. If you load the game first it WILL NOT load into your Rift.

Once Vorpx is loaded, go to local profile and select Alien: Isolation (or whatever your game is) and click apply and close.

If you’re running the steam version, as I am, you’ll then start the game from the desktop icon. I initially tried starting the game from steam, and that didn’t seem to work, but the desktop icon fired it right up. At any rate, the executable must be named AI.exe which is the default exe for the game. ANY other name will fail to load properly because that’s what the profile looks for.

Once it’s loaded, there are quite a few configuration changes that are needed to get the Rift to look mostly correct, which took me a while to figure out (and it’s still not perfect but definitely playable).

Note: I have not been able to get the gameplay using the controller to work properly. Anytime you click a button it seems to take over your view and headtracking stops working. If anyone fixes that I’d love to know how to do it.

So here are the settings I use. I have seen others that have crazy stereo depth settings, maybe for Vive, but those do NOT look right in the Rift at least for me.

    Main Settings:
    3d reconstruction: geometry
    separation (3d-strength): .06
    3d FOV enhancement: 0.00
    Camera height modifier: 0.00

the reason the separation has to be so low is that with a high separation level, the other characters in the game and some items blur significantly because essentially you’re looking at two of them. I do not find that this affects the immersion at all. Adjust to preference obviously.

There are other profile settings listed that use high 3d FOV enhancement, which to me warped the walls significantly so that it was very nauseating and caused my perspective to be all screwed up. Again, I find that to give an unrealistic perspective so I lowered it to 0. Your milage may vary.

    Image Settings:

    Crystal Imaging: Normal
    Aspect Ratio Correction: Letterbox 1
    Image Zoom: 0.96

    Head Tracking Settings:

    HT Sensitivity: 1.65
    HT Roll On
    HT Pos. Tracking: Off
    HT Pos. Tracking Strength: 1.25
HT Invert X and Y axis both OFF
HT Crouch Jump – off, set to preference.

I guess you can leave Touch and Gamepad settings alone mostly, but here is what I have though I use keyboard so it doesn’t affect my gameplay.

    Disable mouse acceleration: off
    Override XBOX Gamepad: Partial
    Overright Left/Right thumbstick: both ON
    Override buttons/trigger: off
    Left stick x/y sensitivity: 0.20
    left stick deadzone: 0.15
    right stick x/y 0.30
    right stick deadzone 0.00

Like I mentioned earlier, if anyone has gotten the gamepad and headtracking to work simultaneously on a Rift I’d love to see how you have yours setup so that I can try it. Gamepad would be much more enjoyable to use than keyboard and mouse is while in VR.
