update:
if i put my screen(via windows) on portrait mode it works (no head tracking tough) but then i would have to keep my head tilted.
This screenshot looks odd (no soft fading borders from the circular vignette). Please do a factory reset in the vorpX config app. Do not change the vignette scaling afterwards for the DK2, only select the lenses you are using.
Please also check whether there is a d3d9.dll in your Dirt 3 folder, and remove it in case there is one. That probably isn’t the issue, but just in case.
Your best bet for proper head tracking in Dirt 3 is using an external tool like OpenTrack, which can emulate TrackIR input. Emulating a gamepad with vorpX works to some degree, but is far from perfect. OpenTrack might not have been updated for DK2 yet, but I’m not sure of that.
No no I m pretty sure I have the latest version. I’ve clearly seen (with a big smile on my face) the update :). Nevertheless, to be sure I can give you the executable size.
I have a logitech mouse with its related logitech driver. Do you think that it can cause incompatibilty with Vorpx ? (again why are HL2 and desk scene working anyway)
One other thing I didn’t think of: You need the latest vorpX version (0.71) for the DK2, maybe the auto update failed in your case. You can manually update by using your web installer. If you didn’t keep a copy of it, please send a mail to support |at| vorpx com.
Thanks for the quick answer Ralf. I am actually at work but will try that as soon as I’m back at home. The DK2 firmware is already updated.
I am a little worried as the Desk scene and Half Life 2 are working flawlessly. I am wondering if this is compatible with the possible cause of a bad runtime installation ? :(
The message you received is given when vorpX is not able to successfully initialize the Oculus SDK, which probably is caused by an issue with the runtime installation.
Please try to (re)install the latest Oculus runtime from the Oculus website. Normally it should have been installed with vorpX, but maybe that failed in your case. Make sure to reboot your PC before and after the installation.
Also please make sure to update the firmware of your DK2 to the version that comes with the latest runtime.
Black Ops 2 is DirectX 11 only, which didn’t have Geometry 3D before the last vorpX release. No promises, but I will look into Geometry 3D for the latest DX11-only COD games for the next update. They are pretty high on the list.
Please try to (re)install the latest Oculus runtime from the Oculus website. Normally it should have been installed with vorpX, but maybe that failed in your case. My guess would be that somehow the runtime installation may not be complete.
Also please make sure to update the firmware of your DK2 to the version that comes with the latest runtime.
All that vorpX does when checking for the device is initializing the runtime with the according SDK call and afterwards checking the name of the device to determine its type.
I’ll lower the minimum value for the next update. Not sure whether text will stay readable this way, but better unreadable than invisible. :)
Just in case you haven’t discovered that yet: You can use EdgePeek in menus (middle mouse button).
Hi,
First just would like to thank Ralf and his efforts, OVR should be kissing your ass for expanding their product’s software library to such a degree.
Now that I’ve kissed a little ass, would ask if there might be a solution to my skyrim problem with head tracking and geometry mode. Only in geometry mode I get this flickering on all of the ground and wall textures whenever there is movement. I have tried all of the following:
– graphics drivers fully updated
– rift extended mode, set to display only on this screen
– various skyrim.ini configurations (deferredShadows, turn off shadows completely, etc)
– happens on a clean skyrim install as well as when modded
I also had this behavior when using Geometry mode with the old vorpx versions and skyrim on DK1. Setting to Adaptive or other modes gets rid of this completely. Unfortunately this also does not allow for the good positional tracking, 3d is not as good. Everything else is running great, good framerate, just can’t resolve this geo mode flickering, last hurdle to full playability.
my rig:
core i7 4960 3.6ghz oc to 4ghz
32gb trident ram oc to 1.4ghz
asus nvidia gtx titan
side question: what determines which 3d modes are made available? is this hardcoded in the vorpx application somewhere or determined based on the target application’s directx implementation?
So one of the biggest issues with vorpx, besides the super zoomed in view, is the controls. Most games we have to use our face to control what direction our cross hairs look while the mouse also controls looking in any direction… this clearing causes a lot of unnatural movement. So far the most natural controls I have come across is in half life 2. You control cross hairs with the mouse and the mouse allows your view to move left and right if you move it far enough, but mouse does not move your view up or down only your head does.
So to my question. Is there anyway we can recreate this with vorpx? I doubt its possible currently, but is this something that can be looked into and added in future updates? For me, and I assume others too, it would improve the vorpx experience by a long shot. Currently I struggle with wanting to keep playing vorpx because of this issue.
I have emailed several times… i do not have original installer and my vorpx wont update past 0.6.4
can you advise
cheers for the quick response Ralf…………….
im using 0.3# sdk so that will be the issue
cheers, ill update the sdk now

When I try to start rFactor 2 with VorpX active it gives me this error message:
“The procedure entry point D3DPERF_SetRegion could not be located in the dynamic link library”
I would love to be able to use rFactor 2 with VorpX in geometry mode 3d.
Currently people with the DK2 are running it using a headtracking plugin made by vittorio and using Tridef to provide the image to the rift, but Tridef has not been updated for the DK2 – the distortion is slightly wrong and chromatic aberration is present.
