Your CPU is a very good AMD, however AMD cpu’s don’t have the highest single thread rating. I found that when I changed from AMD athlonx4 to intel i7 my sky-rim VORPX frame-rate increased by about 10 fps.
Before this update I found the head rotation and looking arpund felt uncomfortable and jittery even in Z3D mode at 80-90fps.
However now with direct VR mode I find Skyrim very smooth and natural feeling even when the fps is 30 – 45 fps outdoors in G3D. No more jittering at all.
Look into your settings more because z-3D should give you high fps.
I like to use the rez 1575×1400 since it is clear and does not waste much rendering outside the field of view.

WOW! This update was the magic bullet!
Tried the direct head tracking in Skyrim and it is amazing!
All the stutter and jitter of head movement is GONE! Head movement is smooth and natural!!!
I would go as far to say that it fells the same as native Occulus Rift content now.

Very well done! I think VorpX should be sold on the Occulus home store and I would definitely recommend it to anyone and everyone now (even those who are not prepared to spend hours tweaking and configuring). It just works magic out of the box!

I had problems with getting OBSE to work with VORPX in the past. I just alt+v after talking to each npc.
I am going to try to reinstall Oblivion and mess with it a bit if I can find my install CD (before the glory days of steam)

Upon some play testing I really find no benefit with ASW.
I have read a lot of people saying it is a major game changer, but I found it actually makes the experience worse.

I have only tried in Skyrim.
In interiors I usually get 80-90 FPS and I really see no difference with ASW and actually feels a little worse (more jittery) for some reason.
In exteriors I typically get from 35 – 75 FPS because of the great variation.
With ASW off I usually sit around 50 fps with game at solid 90fps and feels okay
With ASW on I usually sit at 42-45 fps with the game at 45fps (or60fps game 90fps)
In general it all feels more comfortable with ASW off (CRTL 1 on numpad)

With Skyrim the most significant problem seems to be micro-stutter that makes the occasional frame skip and miss head rotation that feels uncomfortable. I find this still equally bad in Z-3D with FPS 89-90 fps so there is probably no real way to improve it. I just try not to rotate my head too much. Translation always feels smooth.

Side note: I noticed that the bifocal image gets really blurry and de-focused with head roll in CV1. I remember this was not the case in DK2. Could be due to the Fresnel lenses, but I noticed it is not the case in CV1 native apps. Anyone else notice this artifact?

Great news. I have been playing VorpX skyrim since DK2 and have had one major GPU upgrade and 2 cpu upgrades. I have seen improvements each time but am always looking for better performance. Installing WIN 10 today.

I have oculus 1.10 and used the new hotfix.
I must say I notice no difference or performance improvement with ASW. Everything seems exactly the same for me as before. Does anyone else notice any kind of improvement?
Do you have to enable or activate ASW or is it automatically active?
I am running Windows 7 and the oculus home page lists Windows8 or newer as a requirement. Is it possible that ASW is not working in Windws7 or maybe the benefit is just very subtle and not easily noticeable?

If you can make windows custom resolutions try 9:8
    I like using 1395 X 1240 for CV1 with FOV=110
This resolution is good since CV1 only has 1200 vertical pixels so you basically get the max resolution without losing too much performance by making unnecessary large resolution that is downscaled to the HMD or rendered out of view.
Actually the true resolution of the HMD is 1080 X 1200 per eye, but I find this ratio bad since it makes the menus hard to read and the edge of the rendering can be easily seen as you look around quickly.

If you want a little better resolution try 1575 x 1400
If you just want to keep with 4:3 try 1600×1200

I know this is an old post but I just tried this.
It seems to work well with the Crysis 2 profile and Z3D.
I get 35-40 FPS which is about the same as on monitor.
You can set the FOV with console command cl_fov xxx. I used 110 for CV1. FOV seems to look good in horizontal direction but has some distortion in vertical direction.
You can use any custom resolution too which is good.
Head tracked mouse look seems to work perfectly.

Not the best VorpX game but not the worst. It is certainly playable already.
Would be neat to try in GEO 3D, but I doubt that I could get above 20 fps and I could not find a working G3D profile. Crysis 1 profile would not load.

Great. Yes auto-switching sounds like a disaster waiting to happen especially with high frequency switching near the critical point (need like a digital PID regulator or something). Switching rapidly from Z3D to G3D would probably make you sick and dizzy since they look pretty different.

Anyway a simple key shortcut gives the user control and is a very simple concept and seems like a dead easy thing to implement. Could you make the specific key customize-able? That way anyone can just chose any key they please to avoid conflict. Of course you can always shift around your skyrim keys too in the options.

Just another great reason to look forward to the next exciting VorpX update :D

I find my FPS is way better in original Skyrim.

Original Skyrim 40-55 fps around whiterun in G3D and 89-90 fps Z3D (with mods)
Skyrim SE 20-40 fps around whiterun in G3D and 60-70 fps Z3D (NO MODS)

RIG: intel i-7 and Geforce 980

However, Skyrim SE does have the ability to switch G3D to Z3D without exiting!!! SO… I have a question / suggestion. Can you make a key-shortcut to switch G3D – Z3D????
That way you can use Z3D outdoors to boost FPS and G3D indoors where fps is usually better (35-45 fps for me). I would like to switch without having to bring up the VorpX menu each time (gets annoying after a while). @ Ralph: would this be simple to add to the profile if it is not already possible to do in VorpX?

Overall I like original Skyrim better, but the nice clear distant detail with no flicker z-fighting in Skyrim SE makes it worth playing for sure.

Are the Skyrim SE performance drops due to some new post processing graphics that may be turned off (DoF, God rays, extra vegetation, motion blur ect.) ???

Maybe Nvidia settings could be used to boost fps by lowering image quality and turning off filtering and other effects.

For now I would say I will happily stick with original skyrim if it means better performance and I can keep SKSE and my game-play enhancing mods.

Tried Skyrim SE in VorpX with Fallout 4 profile and Z-3D

I must say I like it more than expected. It is nice to see all the distance detail so clearly with no flicker/ z-fighting.
I still hate the colors, but many reshade mods are going up by the hour including ones for a more stark-bleak original skyrim look.
Some re-shades say there may be performance hit, so hopefully there is no problem. Anyone know if these will work with VorpX? Anyone try one yet?

Also on monitor I can cut down the overly vibrant colors with nvidia digital vibrance slider bar, but it does not affect VORPX.
Is there any way VorpX could have some kind of color control?

I found that Skyrim SE ran identically to old Skyrim in terms of same FPS and same smoothness in VorpX. I could see no noticeable difference. However this is just un-optimized test in Fallout profile so I can’t conclude on how it will be eventually.

Ralph was right. The overbright oversaturated colours of Skyrim SE look horrible. Looks more like playing World of Warcraft or some kind of cartoon now.

One of the biggest differences is the almost complete removal of fog and grey atmospheric haze that gave the distant mountains a much better far – off cold stark look in the original Skyrim. In the SE they look a weird powder blue and stick out in a weird way in front of the ultra saturated vibrant blue sky that looks like a big blue rubber balloon. The rainy or cloudy weathers look a little better but still not as good as original IMHO.

On the + side mountain flicker z fighting is over 95% fixed.
If the FPS and smoothness of SE is much better in VORPX I really hope some mods give back the original look of the game. Mods are going up like crazy so I am hopeful.

Also on the + side old saves and even moded saves seem to work okay for me.

Side note: The water is better now too, but still not as good as RealisticWaterII. Unfortunately the water animation is now tied to global timescale so if you use Set timescale to xx the water animation changes. I like to use timescale 2 to 5 so that you don’t go from midday sun to sunset to midnight in less than 30 mins. However that makes slow motion water. This was the case back in Oblivion too and there never was a way around it. Hopefully they remake RealisticWaterII as well.
