Thanks Ralf, and I mean no disrespect to directVR FOV calculation (very cool in theory), but it often feels much too zoomed in compared to how I see things in the real world – at least when it comes to standard mouse and keyboard play.

I can see how it is more suited for distortion free head movement (sweeping a wide circumference), but as I prefer to use mouse rotation instead of moving my neck, pivots need to be tighter and the distance from the floor needs to be greater. Otherwise it gives a magnified fishbowl effect.

It’s true that manually increasing the FOV too much can introduce the opposite effect (fish-eye distortion), so a balance needs to be discovered.

I need to be able to A: place the weapon/hand models further out as feels more natural. And B: look at my feet from a proper distance away, and then drag up to the horizon without the image overstretching/zooming if possible.

I’m not claiming this is the correct way to test for perfect FOV, but is simply the way that works best for me – again for traditional seated mouse and keyboard play.

So while I’m appreciative that directVR provides a good all-around starting point, I even more appreciate the tools vorpX provides to adjust it further to meet individual needs (whether better or not). Besides, as a tweaker, the tools are too much fun not to tinker with :) . Cheers.

That’s neat Gus. Are there any plans for bot support? I had been hoping to try PS at launch, but if there are no “Offline” mode with bots, I’m afraid there will be too little to play.

I really wish EAC wouldn’t block vorpX. We want to play too :)

@haints Well if you already fiddled with those settings then you probably wont see a difference, but I uploaded mine to the cloud anyway. Use it with FOV set to 108 in game. FOV is set higher for better mouse and keyboard play without headtracking.

I would just ask to make sure you are using Geometry 3D mode, because Z-normal isn’t working at all in this game.

The letter-boxing happens as you zoom the image out to achieve this higher FOV. I hope not so spoil any secret, but fullVR mode is just gluing the cinema screen in very close to your face, and unlocking headtracking. So if the screen looks too zoomed in, we have to zoom it out a little.

You can adjust the depth of the crosshair with the HUD depth slider in the vorpX menu. The lower you go will make it look more 3D, but it will start to feel more cross-eyed to look at.

You are right in the sense that the Titanfall guns do not look the right depth in relation to the surrounding world (they appear to extend beyond closer world objects, but not distant sky) but they are indeed 3D. A few other games like the Fallouts and Call of Duties have similar problem, where the guns don’t look quite like they belong naturally in the world space, but rendered on it’s own dimension. This causes some confusion to the eyes when trying to focus on both relatively, but if you concentrate more on the world ahead, things tend to normalize.

Anyway, I don’t mean to keep rambling or refute that there is some issue with the 3D in Titanfall. I just wanted to make it clear for others that there is indeed working geometry in the game (I’ve only tried Singleplayer), and it is not full pancake as you made it sound. Still a neat experience imo.

I’d be curious to see how it looks in Tridef, and learn how it goes about solving the problem.

Geometry 3D is very demanding to run, essentially rendering the game twice plus the slight overhead of vorpX processing it all correctly for the headset. You’ll need a pretty high-end PC to run newer graphics intensive games at respectable resolutions and framerates.

Even high-end hardware is going to need help from ASW to run modern games. Not only will it help to simulate a “doubled” framerate, it will help for smoother headtracking. I would strongly encourage you to leave it on.

Most vorpX games provide the optional Z-normal 3D, which is much faster. So if you are getting below 45 fps, it is recommended you switch to Z-normal. It won’t look quite as convincing as Geometry up close, but does a good job to give depth to the overall scene.

I know it’s not the answer you want to hear, but I’m afraid you either need to try playing some much less demanding games (HL2, portal), or consider upgrading hardware.

Cool. I don’t have RE2 yet, but a working first person mod might encourage me. Someone let us know how it goes.

Your hmd comparison videos are helpful by the way, thanks. Still waiting for my 8k. Have you tried vorpX with your 5k?

What about he Odyssey+? I’ve wanted to know if playing games in vorpX with the sharpness slider turned up makes the image more clear and less blurred. Can it look as sharp as the og Odyssey but have less SDE?

I really want a higher res oled, but wonder if I just need to wait till the end of this year for a possible new HTC or Valve. Sorry to hijack the thread.

The game launches fine without vorpX?

Might not work any different than the alternate hook, but you could try a manual delayed hook by first pausing the vorpX watcher (right click in system tray), starting DA, then resuming the watcher a few seconds later.

I’ve only had to do this with maybe 2 games. For one I had best luck when counting to 8 before resume haha. Every game is different though of course.

I’d test it here, but I forgot to grab Inquisition during the sale.

Also make sure you’re running game in dx11 mode instead of dx12.

I’m curious to hear slydog’s report, as for me things looked great. Aside from the guns being a bit large and close up (possibly making them look less 3D than you expect due to size and fov), G3D was working as it should. The weapon/world strength difference became less apparent to me when using titan suit.

I don’t like hand models to close to my face in games, so I normally prefer to zoom the screen out until they feel at a natural distance. This often comes at the price of intruding letterbox bars on top and bottom of my view, but it feels better to me.

I think for Titanfall 2 I used an image zoom of 0.62 (image settings page), and an FOV Enhancement of 0.41 (main page, might require Expert settings). Then of course you can increase the 3D strength as you desire to get preferred depth.

Thanks for those. It’s useful having them to backup custom settings and test on other games.

Is the sound a problem when you play without vorpX?

What version of Windows do you have? I’ve read that some people have sound problems if Hardware Acceleration settings are turned off.

That’s neat that the profile works with Below Zero. I figured it might.

I’ve updated the Subnautica(Rift) profile to now have scalable HUD and better inventory menus. There’s a chance it may also work for Below Zero’s HUD, but I can’t test it.

There’s also a chance that additional lighting/shadow layers were added in BZ that need fixing with the shader tool.

Squad introduced Easy Anti Cheat in a later update which unfortunately blocks vorpX injection. Sadly the same goes for Post Scriptum, the new Insurgency, and any other game with EAC.

It’s a bummer I know. Both are games I had been hoping to play.

Ralf would remind us that when vorpX can’t be injected into a game, there is still the option to play in hmd using the desktop viewer, but it won’t have any type of 3D.

Just checked and I don’t get official profile listings for Shadow of Mordor nor Arkham Knight, in local or on cloud either. (vorpX 19.1.0)

Just got done checking out all the Star Wars heroes in Battlefront 2 arcade. Super awesome to see in G3D, with those great animations. Try it some time, it’s a treat. The cockpit view in starfighters is neat too!

You can’t tell me this isn’t the true way these games are meant to be seen. It’s just so flippin cool! I continue to be awestruck while playing these games in VR, it enhances the experience so much more.

The concept of vorpX is a dream come true, which all gamers need to try. Thanks again to Ralf for sharing it with us, and for all the hard work he dedicates to improvements, game profiles, and forum assistance. Also to the community members for their endless contributions. So many neat games to try – I can’t stay away.

RJK has quite a list on his website

The site also has a handy game engine cross-checker, useful to compare which game profiles might work for other games.

And don’t forget this ever-growing thread of unsupported games you’ve got working. Several people announce here new profiles they add to the cloud.

I know there are a couple other lists out their too, but none are fully updated.

Just ran a quick test of my saves to confirm the same bald results. Chains and other physics props seem to be missing. The hands and guns look perfect though, so good work there.
