LaserParticipantYes.
Thanks for looking in to it. I know this is a niche within a niche, so not many people will even need this feature but if it is an “easy” feature to add then that is one more checkbox for vorpx features. In the meantime im trying currently another app called dvdfab that can output sbs video from 3d-blurays. Not a free program and actually quite expensive but the trial version lets you rip 3 discs for free so for fun Im trying this out.
LaserParticipantI would be happy to just use MPC-HC but the way the 3D blu-rays are ripped in frame packed 3d-format it doesn´t work just with MPC-HC alone. Madvr is needed to display the side by side image for vorpx.
But with vorpx desktop viewer I can get it running now, not the optimal solution but it works.
I don´t know what changed after the update, like I said before I could hook the madvr.exe but then I didn´t have the option to change video formats.
LaserParticipantNah I don´t think the alternative fast mode made the difference since Im getting good results in other modes too. Maybe the direct openxr mode to vorpx helped the desktop viewer and playing videos? Moving the mouse cursor during videos causes major stutters so I need to wait a bit after each setting change in vorpx profile.
LaserParticipantFailing to hook directly to madvr I tried the desktop mode again and found a solution to previous judder issues. I had to change headset sync to alternative fast mode and now the video plays smoothly! Tomorrow I will play with madvrs own settings if theres any room for improvement and I need to rip more 3d blurays. ;)
LaserParticipantAfter the latest update I can´t get vorpx hooked to madhcCtrl.exe, it tries to but never does, tested also hook helper and alternative method but those didn´t help. Well at least I am not accidentally deleting my video files after hitting delete key anymore. :)
LaserParticipantYeah, great improvement for us Reverbers, before I was struggling with even older games, now I could bump the resolution up considerably.
Thanks for the update.

LaserParticipantwhich I believe is coming in about 8 months, to force every Oculus Rift user to have an active Facebook Account.
I don´t know where you got that number but you should have way more time than that.
“If you’re an existing user and choose not to merge your accounts, you can continue using your Oculus account for two years.
After January 1, 2023, we will end support for Oculus accounts. If you choose not to merge your accounts at that time, you can continue using your device, but full functionality will require a Facebook account. ”
So you still have 1,5 years of full functionality and even after that it won´t brick itself just because you link it with facebook account.
I already left the facebook camp for Reverb, I gave my old to a family member and that unit won´t be used with vorpx anymore. Stopped buying anything from oculus store so I don´t miss anything even if I can´t use my library after 2023.
And since CV1 has been an EOL product for a while I don´t think there will be any driver updates.
LaserParticipantOk, almost got it working with out desktop viewer and its judder problems.
You actually need to vorpx to hook up to madHcCtrl.exe and not mpc-hc64.exeSo I temporarily changed my mpc-hc64.exe to something else so vorpx doesn´t try to hook up to that since its also running parallel with madhctrl.exe.
I made a copy of media player classics profile since I can not add or remove processes of that built in profile. Now it hooks up fine to madvr but now the options page for changing video format is gone?`
Ralf any ideas, can I fix it myself or do you need to make changes to vorpx itself?
LaserParticipantBe aware though that watching videos with the desktop viewer involves two framerate conversions: movie framerate > desktop framerate > headset framerate. Hooked into the player vorpX upsamples directly from the movie framrate to the headset framerate, which typically is a lot better.
After watching some clips today, yes there is a problem with conversions. With madvr the desktop resolution changes to the video resolution and framerate, so 1920×1080 @23hz for 3D-blurays. And while the movie plays very smooth on the desktop, it is somewhat juddery in the headset. Most noticable in panning shots.
Apart from the framerate issues this is the first time for me to consider watching a full 3D movie with my hmd instead of tv. Previously I had just watched compressed movies and the resolution and screen door effect of my previous hmd (rift cv1) was not good enough compared to my 4k tv. And as a bonus there is zero ghosting when watching in vr compared to 3dtv and obviously far more immersive.
As a side note, I like the ambience mode but it doesn´t work so so great with 2.35:1 content since the ambience starts after the black bars on top and bottom. I don´t know hard it would be to change this?
LaserParticipantI didn’t know you could hook directly into MPC-HC, Ralf.
I don’t see a profile.
Is it as simple as starting Vorpx and then MPC-HC and it should automatically hook? There is a profile “Mediaplayer Classic Home Cinema” and it just works. ;)
Normally when watching side by side 3d videos its easier but framepacked blurays seem to be more trickier.
LaserParticipantI think I got it working starting things in a different order.
1. Start Mpc-hc
2. Change video output to madvr
3. Load 3d.mkv file (this changes my desktop resolution and colour settings(?)
4. launch vorpx desktop viewerI have to do some more testing tomorrow.
Im using Reverb G2 btw, maybe this has something to do with the problems I am having, maybe the upcoming vorpx update makes things simpler.
LaserParticipantI can´t get this one working properly.
If I run desktop viewer and just start the video MPC always defaults to output “Enhanced video renderer” instead of Madvr. Then if I switch to madvr and reload the video, my desktop switches resolution to 1920×1080 and vorpx unhooks from the player.
LaserParticipantGood timing, just got a new reverb g2 since my “old” one died. The cursor thing is small but important update. Any chance to get the update ready this weekend? :)
LaserParticipantSince I never use motion controllers with vorpx anyway, you could perhaps release a version without controller support first? ;)
Anyway thanks in advance for the Reverb support.
LaserParticipantI’ll soon do some OpenXR experiments, hoping that OpenXR instead of SteamVR for WMR headsets will get rid of that, but as always can’t promise anything.
Good to hear about possible improvements on that front. I´ve been enjoying bunch of older games with newly acquired G2 and indeed it is a good fit with vorpx. The bad parts of G2 won´t matter that much when you don´t have to deal with the bad tracking of the controllers, or overall lesser hand controllers.
Black levels aren´t that great (compared to cv1 oled) but maybe that is the price to pay for high resolution and the lack of screen door effect.
