MarcDwonnParticipant
Much appreciated, Ralf.
MarcDwonnParticipant@Ralf: Now with Reloaded Edition out, what’s the status of Dying Light 2? There were reports that it stopped working. Is Z3D still functional if one uses DX11?
MarcDwonnParticipantI agree. But things are better now than they were in 2019 when i started using VorpX. We even have different inofficial Discord servers with VorpX related channels, so there is more info available. And there are alternative tools, for the games that VorpX doesn’t work with, so we are not dependable on one single tool anymore (and the limited time of one single developer to fix issues with profiles).
I’m currently playing AC:Origins, and it works brilliantly on the Quest 3 with my xBox controller. I have issues with hooking from time to time, but other than that it’s a great way to be “inside” the game.
MarcDwonnParticipantI’m not surprised that the nVidia AO doesn’t work, that was my expectation as well. But many older games with lightmaps don’t need this anyway, TW1 is one of those.
MarcDwonnParticipantPlease report if the nVidia Ambient Occlusion works in stereo mode. I’ve never been tempted to add AO to The Witcher 1, because it already uses baked lighting. On the other hand i tried out the Far Cry VR mod the other day, and that one really needs some AO because it looks super flat. I briefly thought about nVidia AO, but dismissed the idea as “not compatible” with stereo view.
So yeah, looking forward to hear about your experience.
About modding: i played TW1 fully modded with texture mods and other stuff, and the engine gets a bit more unstable, but it works great in G3D, S3D is perfect, even the particles have proper depth. It was my first vorpexed game i played and i was mighty impressed.

I have almost zero hiccups and my settings are as follows:
Oculus Debug Tool
Codec: H.264
Sliced Encoding: On
Encode Resolution Width: 4032
Encode Bitrate: 600 Mbps
Link Sharpening: QualityOculus Software
Rendering Resolution: 4480×2400
Refresh: 72HzMy hardware

Win10 64-bit with 64GB RAM
TP-Link AXE5400 @ 6GHz/2400Mbps (recommended by the Virtual Desktop community)AC: Origins
Game Resolution: 3200x1800px
GFX Settings: mostly “High”Feb 16, 2024 at 2:53am in reply to: Performance/Stability: Quest App or Virtual Desktop or SteamLink #219254MarcDwonnParticipantI usually prefer VD for everything else, but for VorpX always used the native way – (Air)Link. The recent version seems more stable to me, but it could just be the new wireless with 6GHz that i have with Quest 3, so in my apartment i have zero interference from neighbors.
If VorpX can run with VDXR, i’d like to hear about it, because with OpenXR i’ve had the best experience. And SteamLink, well, it’s not as competitive currently, but is very convenient, and i wonder if VorpX can utilize it.
MarcDwonnParticipantProfiles *do* change game settings, and those are written into the game INI.
I play in Immersive Screen 98% of the time, so if DOF is only used in cutscenes (like in AC Origins) i keep it. In cutscenes you tend to switch to Edge Peek anyway (smaller window size).
I would never remove bloom, it is part of the intended look of the game, and it frankly hides some of the lighting issues of older game engines. As for Ambient Occlusion – removing it destroys the sense of depth and realism to me. But my immersion comes from lighting, your perception may vary.
MarcDwonnParticipantI use my Quest 3 in a similar way and reading this i’m glad i haven’t updated yet. I watch SBS streams with another app currently.
Thus i join in on Cer’s suggestion for the desktop viewer and the virtual monitor. Those make perfect sense to me and would help reduce the friction.
MarcDwonnParticipantIt’s really disappointing that we have to reach out to 3rd party software to get popular games like God Of War working in stereo3D.
At least Virtual Desktop now has a virtual monitor and can play Depth3D output judder-free and up to 4k. You could try that method as well.
I’m aware that the new VorpX version has a virtual monitor driver too, but it breaks Z3D compatibility with The Witcher 3 classic version (1.31).
MarcDwonnParticipantAh, must have forgotten about this option. Thank for the reminder!
MarcDwonnParticipantI apologize if i’m misunderstanding the issue at hand. But the ergonomically correct position of the virtual screen should be slightly lower than the vertical center of your FOV if you look straight forward.
The reason for this is that a relaxed head position is slightly looking downwards. That’s exactly what desktop ergonomics recommendations have been suggesting for many years now – flatscreen monitor slightly below, and tilted in a way that you’re looking at a perpendicular angle to the screen.
Virtual Desktop has a great solution for this (besides regular “sliders” for vertical and horizontal position). Holding the left grip moves your screen freely with the left controller.
Jan 16, 2024 at 2:37pm in reply to: @Ralf.. Impossible to run DeadSpace remake due to same name as original #219085MarcDwonnParticipantI hope that there will be a better, less restrictive solution for how VorpX handles profiles. Unfortunately these days remakes/remasters a very popular, and publishers/developers have no regard for the older version they’re replacing, often naming the new game and/or the executable the same way. And by now most VorpX users know that renaming an EXE doesn’t always work.
MarcDwonnParticipantWould be interested to know if this game has a working profile now.
Jan 11, 2024 at 1:31pm in reply to: How does the render chain work – Tips for optimal setting #219045MarcDwonnParticipantCouple notes:
– VD desktop streaming is now 2160p since v1.29.6 (VD Classic, the Steam version, has an uncapped resolution IME, but you need to set resolution on your monitor first)
– Watching movies is easiest with VD – just stream them from your PC and play them with the VD player. If you want postprocessing, you can play the videos on PC full screen and watch them in VD desktop mode. -
