Nov 12, 2016 at 11:46pm in reply to: The *best* resolution, once again. (and the related Zoom and FOV) #122728MarcoParticipant
I am playing on g1 1080 and I5 6600k 3.5 ghz. I am not interested on Asynchronous Timewarp. Resolution is to me more important than in game detail. Therefore i understand you suggest me the following general configuration:
Resolution: 1920×1440, over 1080×1200 (or similar)
Pixel ration and zoom: PR to 1:1 and zoom enough to avoid any bars on the upper and lower part of the screen
FOV: With the above configuration, i should use the regular 120 degrees FOV with most games. Or zooming in as described above does require a different FOV value?
Thanks a lot, once this is clear i am really ready to go having overall perfomances close to native VR.
MarcoParticipantThanks can’t wait for the next Vorpx version.
MarcoParticipantActivating positional tracking from the advanced menu worked great with all games i tried. Just noticed minor glitches in menus, for example with Dead Space 3, not related to Vorpx i think. Apart from that it works great and to me is a fundamental feature.
From advanced options, i also reccomend to switch the Edgeepeek background color to “Black”.
I think both options should be configured like that by default or easier to reach as they are very important for the near-native VR experience Vorpx is capable to offer with many games.
MarcoParticipantHi Ralph, i wonder if the next version will address the headtracking issue with some games.
– Skyrim: aware of the mouse OR controller issue, i was trying to use the built in controller configuration feature to emulate keyboard with no success. I was wondering if the VORPX custom controller configuration will further improve or if you could build a specific controller profile for Skyrim as this is one of the most requested games.
– Deus Ex Human Revolution: headtracking issue that lets you look around OR move, never at the same time.
– Alien Isolation: headtracking deactivates after moving with the controller, reactivates after using Vorpx menu again
MarcoParticipantWhat about the documentation?
MarcoParticipantUnfortunataley that’s not an updated version. I also think there should be better documentation about the subject and i’m hopeful for the next version of Vorpx for that.
I also would like to know, when possible, about future compatibility with mayor titles. The main point of Geometry over Z-buffer, to me, is positional tracking, which is essential to provide comfort for longer gaming sessions. Out of that, Z-buffer 3d looks very good in many games, and it is really good performance wise as well. I would say the image looks cleaner and smoother.
Ralph said there may be Z-Buffer Positional tracking in the next Vorpx. I am really interested on this. I would like to know, for example, if THE WITCHER 3 will have some form of positional tracking or it will directly support Geometry. So i can start dreaming of playing that POV version of the game in VR.
MarcoParticipantWorks very well for me (one of the best games), just telling you this so that you know there should be a solution (can’t help you with that, unfortunately).
MarcoParticipantHi Ralph, will we have more Geometry support with the new update? What about Z-Buffer and Positional Tracking? That would be awesome too.
MarcoParticipantI think Portal 2 works very well, just remember enabling Advanced Settings, then enable Positional Tracking from there.
MarcoParticipantPlease someone correct this if i am wrong: i think you can play in 1920×1080 with no deformation of sort. You will have to keep the zoom to zero, keep also the original FOV of the game and you will lose a bit of vertical FOV (“stripes” on the upper and lower part of the screen). To make those band black and not having the “ambience” effect, you have to enable the Vorpx advanced options, then turn the “edge peek background” to black, things i reccomend to do with all games as the “advanced options” will enable the positional tracking in about all Geometry game.
To Ralph, can’t wait for the next Vorpx version. From these conversations you know better than anybody it’s time to focus on “plug & play”, as now that the VR offer is getting better and more variated, less people will be willing to “struggle” a bit with settings.
MarcoParticipantWhat game are you running? What’s ur specs? This way we (i) can get an idea of what u should get from that specific game.
MarcoParticipantAnother thing, disable any 2D FOV extension, that also causes distorsion IMHO. You will always lose the visibility of a certan % of the display, but that doesn’t depend on Vorpx, i think.
MarcoParticipantHi Tig3rmast3r, i remember Bioshock Infinite running quite sweet. I still have to try with G1 1080 but on 970 was one of the best looking games. I can try and help you out with the configuration and see if it runs better. What’s your graphic card thou?
MarcoParticipantSkyrim has an issue, apparently unsolvable, were you can’t use headtracking while playing with a controller. To fix that issue, you can either:
-Play with keyboard and mouse, and headtracking
-Remap your controller so that emulates keyboard and mouse, by using Vorpx internal tool or other external tools. I wasn’t totally successful with that.
-Play without headtracking (positional tracking only)
-Skip this one and hope for a proper native VR version on the next year, if Fallout will be a success. This is what i chose with this game.MarcoParticipantYeah i don’t see distortion or similar with a proper setup (especially: Fov, Resolution and Screen Zoom). Everything feels about right with the best games and proper configuration.
