The easiest way to deal with this is to keep the default resolution – 1280×1024, that VorpX is setting. When you start the game open the VorpX menu, find Internal Resolution Upscale and set it to 2.
You will get the same end result without the need to add custom resolution and (for some games) tinker with ini files.
You can also experiment with different values to find the optimal setting for quality/performance balance.

It is a thread about Andromeda and not about Theater mode. I consider my post to be on topic – is it possible to do something VR-like for MEA? If yes – cool, if not …

I said several times that it is a personal opinion. I can understand people who do not own a 3D TV enjoy having one emulated in VR but for several more years that will be lesser experience. Some people will like it, some will not. That’s the point of having a personal opinion.

Skyrim, Oblivion, FO3/NV/4 are not 3rd person games (only). You can simply play 1st person and almost never have to see your character. There is a camera mod for TW3 and I’m curious if something can be done to make it a cool VR experience.

MEA looks really cool and it would be amazing if it is possible to be played in VR. There will be many “head tracked third person games” released in the future.

This is a thread about Andromeda, so if you don’t like cinema mode why are you even here?

Because what I said earlier in the thread was taken out of the context later on. And because it is a thread about Andromeda and not about theater mode. I consider my post to be on topic – is it possible to do something VR-like for MEA? If yes – cool, if not …

I uninstalled MEA after the trial so I can’t test what works and what not.

Since I posted first about Tridef here I want to say that I don’t see it as a product in the same category as VorpX. One of them is specifically useful with 3D TV sets, the other one is VR specific. And while I have no intention in discussing Tridef here, there is something I wanted to say about VR theather mode vs 3D TV.

I feel I (and other users that own and use 3D TV sets) have a different idea of what we value in VoprX the most. For me it is the DirectVR and the way VorpX turns an old flat game into a VR experience. I actually started seriously replaying Skyrim and FO3/NV (TTW) in the past weeks because they feel now like completely different games. And the heavily modded Skyrim playthru I’m doing now is one of the 3 best experiences I ever had in VR.

I completely ignore the existence of the Theater mode. The resolution of the current HMDs, the SDE, the sweets spot issues, the general inconveniences coming from wearing the headset for hours, make me prefer the big 3D TV. In the next few years – until the screens, the graphic hardware, the optics in the VR headsets improve a lot, playing on a 3D TV will be a vastly superior experience to any form of VR theater mode. (I don’t know if providing a 3D SBS stream to a monitor/TV is something that was ever considered as an option for VorpX.)

As as result of all this I consider all the time spent into making a game playable in theater mode in VR to be wasted. As opposed to making a game be able to be experienced and played as a VR experience. It is slower and harder to do I guess, but it is worth it. Just my 2 cents.

I have some time left in the trial and I wanted to try it but after clicking around the VorpX Config I don’t understand how do I assign the DAI profile to MEA.

I tried earlier with Tridef on a 3D TV and there the DAI profile doesn’t do anything with MEA – there was no 3D effect at all.

    … ENB injector doesn’t work with Win10

What do you mean by that? It works fine with my Win10.

Also I’m thinking if the ini is overwritten every time the game launches maybe setting it to Read only can prevent that.

Hmmm, seems it works if you do the scan in 3rd person with weapons out.

But I see a new problem – when you look up and down it seems to move you a bit or change the zoom. You can see this easily if you stand before a bench and start looking up and down. The bench will zoom in and out a bit. It is not a big difference but it makes it a bit confusing sometimes.

    OK.

By the way I haven’t experienced any problems with the “old” positional tracking but I only move 1.5 meters tops. And I’m hoping it works as it used to work.

i found with directvr you gotta go into third person do the scan then go back into first person

I tried that just now and it didn’t work. The rotation scan says Success but there is no rotation tracking after that. I guess there is something else that is influencing this.

Well, the tinkering is half of the fun :-) And modding is half of the fun playing Skyrim.

I think it is helpful that people share what works for them and what not. This will help in identifying mods that do work. For example if I’m interested in a mod but I see that everybody has problems with it I’m not going to waste my time trying to make it work. And if I see somebody saying they run a mod with no problems then I know that it is worth trying it.

From the point of view of the player who mods their Skyrim, VorpX is a mod. We simply need to find out how this quite complicated new mod works with other mods, what conflicts with it, or what compliments the added functionality, what compatibility patches are needed – everything that happens when a new complex mod is created.
All this will slowly happen with time.

I’m using Alternate Start but I still have problems from time to time.

Sometimes the scan will work fine many times one after another. Other days it will not work at all.

Without mods it will always work.

Using first person mods creates the problem for me. But for now I’m unable to find any pattern and any explanation to what can cause the scan to consistently not work for several days and then work consistently for several days. Obviously there are factors in play that I don’t understand, so I decided to wait for the next update. As I understand there will be optimizations to the scanning in it.

On this point, Enhanced Camera seems fine with Direct VR – for me at any rate. Not a complete answer, but it may be a help 🙂

Hmm, I missed this one, thanks! Will try it tomorrow.

I’m pretty sure that 99.99% of all mods work perfectly fine with Direct VR.

Yep, I tried to say the same thing but I drowned it in words… :-)
There will be no more than 5 to 10 mods that will require some special attention. Everything else works or has an equivalent that works.

But this is just an observation right now as it will take some experienced modder taking a look at the mods to see how they can be changed or new ones need to be made.

I have send an email to support@ (to you) with some more clear explanation about what I’m talking about and a link to a relevant discussion.

But as I said the shortcut to switch DirectVR on or off will be a good solution for now, before there is more clarity if the mod specific problems can be resolved purely on the mod side. So with that I think the topic is resolved :-)

I completely understand your position and I really hope I don’t sound demanding or something. I’m simply trying to find ways to make the best of the both worlds – mods and DirectVR, work together.
I completely agree with what you said about the mod combinations. That’s why I was talking about essential mods.

If you look at the Steam statistics 2/3 of the Skyrim players on PC are still on the old game despite the fact that the Special Edition runs better and doesn’t have the problems the old game has with Win 10. This is because of big number of essential mods missing. If you look at discussions online about that, lots of people say they are waiting for SKSE for SSE and conversion of several essential mods before they return to Skyrim.

And it is not about all mods also because there are lots of situations where different mods do the same thing with small differences. People will be ready to switch mods if at least one of them works. In the case of first person mods I’m still experimenting and trying to find one (that is not Joy of Perspective) that works. So I can put that on different tutorials about how to play Skyrim with VorpX.

But I’m in no way saying that this can be resolved quickly or that it has to be resolved on the VorpX side only or that it is a top priority or something like this. I expect those things will be gradually resolved in time with more people joining as users and mod authors starting to pay attention to this new platform.
I think there are actually 5 to 10 mods (or types of mods) that are considered essential and that are directly influenced by the way VorpX works. But dealing with them is not really possible at the moment before their authors or some other experienced modder takes a look at them.
I’m just trying to find out what works and what doesn’t right now. And I was sharing what I see. And that is all. I know that some of the problems I see are caused by my setup or by me using things in a wrong way and this is another reason I post them – maybe somebody will tell me what I’m doing wrong.
