I just had the same issue with final fantasy 15 on gamepass and couldnt get it to hook.

i think its cause vorpx needs to have’access’ to files in the windowsapp folder and even with admin priviges, you cant access that stuff. Like try adding a xbox console companion game to steam, it wont work.

i think we got lucky and a few managed to work, but ya, im not sure what the fix is here

Okay – so what you are getting – if you want to make old games looking legitimately 3d and like stuff is in your hands (like a weapon model looks like its right there in legit 3d) or want to see stuff on the horizon look like its on the horizon – it does that. In some first person games theyve even got full tracking for your head, but you will be playing the games as normally intended, with a regular controller

There is a quick key that is adopted in profiles to right stick click to “zoom” out the image for when a cutscene or something takes place, basically putting it on a movie screen, then you can tap the zoom button again and be back in full VR, world encompassing you in first person games or like looking thru a window in a 3rd person game, you can actually see the depth of things in the distance.

Pesonally, ive been playing VR since DK2 and Vorpx has gotten 99% of my actual “VR’ time, most VR games at this point are simple and redundant (few examples that fix this are like walking dead, asuras wrath), but those have been slow coming. If you want a full 3d VR experience in a game that is supported, it does that.

It supports alot more than what is ‘officially’ supported, but youll just have to see if profiles for those games exist, a good reference page is a user named RJKole’s site, but it has been down. I am attaching an image of the page when it wasnt down so you can see what games are considered to be ‘supported’ by the community with the program; meaning depth and all those sorts of things work

    https://www.vorpx.com/forums/topic/celebrating-700-games-on-inofficial-list/page/2/#post-192357

For the most part games coming these days are supported by it to some degree because the engines being used are limited and not necessarily in house developed stuff as much as it used to be – so i would only expect that list of ‘unsupported officially’ titles to continue expanding.

Its the best 40 bucks i spent on VR, far and away

I think this mightve been why i saw a boost – i have a low end card, 780 ti, but my cpu is decent, i7 4930k. that would make some sense why i saw a little performance kick up then, thanks for the explanation!

Im definitely responsible for thinking I had doom working with geo 3d with just some errors cause it was saying it was geo 3d… didnt know much about the program and thought that it meant someone else could get it working right since it said geo3d was in. So you got some of us who are just ignorant of the fact :P lol sorry, sad but true… just didnt understand the program enough, figured since it hooked and said g3d that someone else could properly set it up, that was my case atleast, im sure some others are the same

VR Controllers act either as mouse/keyboard (freely configurable) or as gamepad. That can still boost immersion quite a bit since that way you have your hands free to pretend to interact with the game world.

Try it, you’ll probably be surpised how small the difference between actually openening a door or reaching out and then pressing a button is for your brain, same for pretending to aim with a gun etc. A bit like playing air guitar, but way better. You can even display animated hands instead of the controllers if you want.

Damnit, ralf! why didnt you mention trying this before? i never thought about that but i could see what youre saying in just holding the illusion theres an actual item in your hand with a trigger… obviously tricking ourselves, but thats what vr is – a trick.

thanks for the idea, i might try this with next fps i play, appreciated, sir. but shoulda said this sooner! lol. Thanks dude

edit: and just thanks for the hard work in general, i really really love your product and i did convince one friend to buy recently, so im trying to keep people aware of what youve made here, its fantastic, thank you

Thanks for the information, I’m going to try!

The effect mightve been primarily from the vr prerendered frames now, im not sure. I did a full reinstall of windows recently so everything got reset to standards, i saw the low latency thing and clicked it on and did the vr prerendered frames and saw an improvement… but the description for low latency sounds counter intuitivie to the effect i was having. So im not sure if that option is necessary, but really, saw a def improvement for some reason, may have been the prerendered frames primarily though. but really did go from barely 720p playable – low settings low anti aliasing in sinking city to 1080p with anti aliasing and medium/litte bit of high and rock solid for some reason when i was dipping at 720p

    @the balt
Perhaps the 2019 update is the reason http://dulfy.net/2019/03/20/swtor-new-game-engine-changes-patch-5-10-2/ for the game not working anymore

Could be – but like i got it to hook the first time i launched, after that, tried it just a few hours later after playing for a bit – never got it to hook again. Tried running in compatibility mode, tried adding the launcher to vorpx, tried SteamVR and just Oculus to see if it would hook… just dunno what made it hook once and never again, mightve been that update. bummer if so cause thats a game i legit wanna dig into

I havent played Half Life 2 episode 1 in vorpx but make sure your 3d setting is set to Geometry 3d, i believe that is the only setting that lets you ‘get in close’ to objects like a regular VR game

There should still be an Oculus option. If it is missing for some reason, try a reinstall.

Ya.. i lost my download link so gonna have to request a new one. But ya, it just has SteamVR, Generic VR Headset, and Generic 3D Display as my options in the drop down box, no Oculus. Ill send a ticket for a new download, thanks ralf!

I wanted to add – in case anyone was looking at checking this game out – it was originally intended to be isometric so your ‘look’ up and down is limited, youre basically looking forward with little ability to control the camera up and down, like you can look at the ceiling. Theres shooting and aiming and all that, but the camera locks at a certain point when trying to look upward. Didnt know if thatd be a dealbreaker for some wanting a full headtracking experience, you will not be able to look “up” at the ceiling, at tall buildings from too close… its limited in the same way i think KOTOR was, couldnt really turn the camera all the way up to look at the sky in that one either, if I recall correctly.

Just wanted to point that out – your headtracking will be very limited in terms of the Y axis, there is a ‘look ceiling’ on the camera and you wont be able to look straight up or anything.

I managed to get this game to hook ONCE – first install, first launch it hooked and worked.. after that, never got it to hook again. I forget what game i used as the profile base but i think it was the Hero Engine or something. But ya, ive tried to get this to work as well and I imagine Ralf is right, theres some mechanism in the online part not letting vorpx hook and maybe since it was my first launch with the game those files werent ‘created’ yet to boot me out… but ya, got it to run once months and months ago, never got it to hook again, didnt change anything at all… so i dunno

if you figure out a solution, id be happy to see it tho! lol i wanna play it in 3d too

To be clear tho – Shadow of War did have crashes during certain ‘cutscene’ type things, when i was ‘claiming a tower’ from Sauron and it does that animation of you and the wraith taking it – Crash. but it loaded up fine just like shadow of mordor. Im not sure if that crash was random or not but at that point i was done with my playing for that day and didnt try it again, mightve been a one off crash, ill be checking it again soon

it hooked but no depth and no offense my apologies just looking to give some feedback, you know others are trying and you dont suck at all on the contrary thank you for the input it is appreciated.

I dont know if you have shadow of war I got some good results with that and the official shadow of mordor. Only I its like Im getting a reflection in my right eye if you have the game you want to give it a shot ?

I actually just started playing shadow of war with the Shadow of Mordor profile as well and didnt have that lens issue. I saw people making posts about it having that issue and i just tried it like 2 days ago and it was not there for me, so i dont know if maybe different windows or driver updates effected something, but, I was able to play with the shadow of mordor profile no problem

No worries.. honestly the program is amazing but you need to work WITH it to get the most out of it – my recommendation, for now – would be to start with one of the “fully supported” games on the Vorpx list here:

    Supported Games

ok, so ANY game you want to play on Vorpx – Launch it ON IT OWN first, many games do not ‘create’ their configuration files until after they are launched, like when you install a game on steam, it installs 99.99% of the files for the game except for the configuration files, those get ‘created’ when the game is launched the first time (for the most part, this isnt 100%, but just follow these instructions to make your life easier)

So, launch any newly downloaded games WITHOUT Vorpx first. Let it get into its menu screen and exit out. Start Vorpx, Launch it again with Vorpx, then Vorpx will be able to access the config files for that game and make its necessary adjustments to them (its doing alot of work in the background with field of view and stuff that youll have no clue its doing)

Now the games on the list i sent you should, i believe, in the Vorpx In Game Menu – in your headset, default key to access it is DEL; or on your controllers itll usually be “click in left stick” or right stick to access the Vorpx in game menu, again, the Vorpx in game menu will be IN your headset only, the vorpx program for the profiles and stuff will be on your PC… but in the Vorpx game menu should be an option for “DirectVR Scan” or it might just be called DirectVR. 9/10 this will successfully run and change all settings in those games to make them look good in Vorpx and adopt true “3d”.

Now if youre having trouble with performance, Vorpx has three 3d modes. the most significant and “closest to real vr” one is Geometry 3d. Geometry 3d essentially renders the game twice and most the time gives you full ability to lean forward/back/left/right/up/down, like a “REAL” VR game. This comes at some performance cost tho cause- yeah, youre basically running the game ‘twice’ to get this effect.

For you tho – since it sounds like you just want to turn the headtracking stuff off entirely, theres two other 3d modes that do not have nearly the performance hit – you will still ‘see things in the distance/arrows look like theyre coming AT you’, but doesnt have the full movement of a VR game with your head, those are called ZAdaptive and ZNormal.. for you, these will get you the best performance and results for your buck and arent EXTREMELY taxing on hardware by any means, like geometry 3d can be for certain games. this will be an option in the vorpx in game menu as well.

But, while we are on the topic, most of the profiles link the Vorpx Menu button to to the left stick click, this is sometimes a problem for games, when you get into the Vorpx in game menu, scroll thru the settings til you find the page that lists like stuff about Xbox controllers, there should be an option there for “switching” the Vorpx menu buttons to your Start/Select buttons. Basically itll make it so if you TAP Select/Start, itll do the Vorpx action of bringing up the Vorpx in game menu and if you HOLD the button in, itll bring up your typical ‘pause’ screen.

Sorry for the rant, but really, if you get set up later and wanna get on mic on steam and ask me to help you out, ill jump into a vorpx game and go thru the settings with you over Steam mic chat to give you a quick rundown and get you up and running with a game youll enjoy.

for the ‘first go’ – id really recommend picking a game on that list, just to make things easier and so you can see what the program CAN do, when optimized properly.

My biggest suggestion, from the real list, if you want a good first person game would probably be dishonored 1 or 2 or the bioshock games. If you want something third person, Dark Souls 3, Sekiro, Darksiders 3 and the Surge all work great. If you wanted to chat about it later my steam name is Baltar777 , go ahead and add me if you like and let me know when youre on and ill try to talk you thru some of it.

Its an amazing program, there are so many haters out there on it but they just didnt take the time to actually understand the program. I wish it was SUPER SIMPLE, which DirectVR does make it pretty close to super simple, but, you still need to know what buttons to press and menus to go into before you get up and running – Vorpx has an explanation on all this in the actual program that will be on your PC.. but it can be daunting. If you wanted to talk to me and me just walk you thru it, we can totally do that.

So take a look at that list and see if theres a particular game on there youre interested in trying as a ‘first go’ and im down for helping if you need it, just add me on steam

I guess my main goal is that I want to play a bunch of my older games in VR, but still want to use my Xbox controller and don’t want any head tracking or the “mouse look” defaulted to on and using head tracking (because sometimes that makes me sick).

So thanks for the response and info, going to place my order and dig through my Steam Library and see what I’ve got.

One last question, does Vorpx work with games other than on Steam? I have some GOG games I got from Humble Bundle and actually a couple DVDs (Sims 4, couple others) I would like to check out w/ Vorpx … or do the games need to be in my Steam Library? If so no problem I can add them in.

no, it can literally be connected to any .exe file on your computer. What happens is like this – when you first get the program youre going to have a list of games under “Local Profile” (itll be a setting on the program on your pc, not in your headset); these Local Profiles are already made and ready to go and will attach to any .exe that launches on the computer that matches the .exe in the profile. So like Bioshock or Dishonored are already ready to start, on steam or off GoG, wherever you like.

As far as supported games, the ‘unofficial list’ has like 700 games on it i think, but in your local profiles will be 100 or so, i think. If you want to find a game not in the local profiles, youll see an option for “cloud profiles”, go there and type like “Call of Cthulu” and any profiles users have made will pop up on the list, you select it and hit “import file” on the right side and then hit apply and vorpx will just be waiting for you to launch “call of Cthulu” or “bioshock”, just waiting to see the .exes get used and then it jumps in and does its thing.

If you have any problems with programs and need to launch without Vorpx, but still have it ‘on’, on the bottom right corner of your start bar will be the Vorpx icon, right click it and click “pause watcher” – thatll effectively make vorpx go into hibernation and not look for .exes being launched, right click it again and click “resume watcher” to make vorpx start looking for .exes being launched again.
