RalfKeymasterPlease update your Defender definitions (by forcing an update in the Windows settings app). There was a false positive detection with Defender on Saturday, but MS fixed it quickly on Sunday after I reported the issue. The detection has been removed manually by their staff.
To avoid such issues entirely in the future exclude the vorpX program folder from your AV scanner as suggested in my first reply to your post.
RalfKeymasterThe official Link cable is an (overpriced) optical cable. Theoretically that is supposed to make it better over longer distances, but actually a decent 5m USB3 cable works just as well – for a third or so of the price.
If you want to be on the safe side, buy one that has been tested for VR/Link. Search for ‘KIWI design USB C Link Cable’ e.g. on Amazon. Comes with a built in signal amplifier.
If you happen to have a good Wi-Fi 6 router (ideally with your PC connected via a LAN cable), cable-less AirLink is also a viable option. How well that works heavily depends on the Wi-Fi connection’s quality though, so for the least possible amount of compression artifacts a cable is the safer method.
RalfKeymasterDon’t run vorpX as admin unless necessary, that may cause all sorts of weird issues on modern systems. Among them input issues, Windows considers access rights when input gets captured. Usually it shouldn’t, but it doesn’t sound impossible that in one or the other game that may lead to shortcuts not working if vorpX runs as admin but the game does not.
The only reason why you would want to run vorpX with admin rights is if a game requires admin rights – typically fairly old games from the Windows XP era and before. There is no other reason than that to run vorpX as admin.
If it still doesn’t work afterwards for some reason, you can try your motion controllers or gamepad to access the menu.
RalfKeymasterNot yet, I’ll upload a beta with the auto settings fix early next week. Addressing this for the release build was more important for now, I have given up hope that nVidia will fix the actual issue in their drivers anytime soon.
If you have the beta installed and encounter repeated ‘vorpX changed some game settings, a restart might be required’ messages on each game start for a game, either uninstall the beta and install 21.3.5 or downgrade your nVidia drivers to 528.49 until the next beta. That helps too.
RalfKeymasterTry this. Once you got a fresh web installer keep it. It can be used to install the latest version anytime. There is no need for a new download ever if you keep the web installer.
RalfKeymasterAlmost certainly a virus scanner running amok. That can happen occasionally after an update. Try to exclude the vorpX program folder from your AV scanner, usually that’s C:\Program Files (x86)\Animation Labs\vorpX.
BTW: If you happen to use anything else than Windows Defender, I’d highly recommend to get rid of it. There is no need for invasive third party AV programs. Windows Defender is more than good enough since almost a decade now while being less likely to cause false positive alarms.
Edit: Just checked with the latest Windows Defender update, which doesn’t cause any problems.

vorpX 21.3.5 has been releasedThis is a maintenance release that mainly fixes a severe issue caused by recent nVidia drivers.
- New method to apply automated game settings. Fixes many DirectVR profiles that include automatic game settings optimization being broken with nVidia drivers newer than February 2023.
- Comes with all profile updates since the last regular vorpX update compiled in the installer for convenience.
- Various smaller fixes.
RalfKeymasterHooking issues with multiple games almost always are caused by someting getting in the way that also hooks into games and causes a conflict with vorpX. The trouble shooting guide on top of this sub forum has more details on the matter.
Also some games can’t be hooked due to anticheat measures or similar blocking mechanisms. Metro Exodus should definitely work though, not sure about Diablo 4, haven’t tried that so far.

Version alpha 9 is available. This update mainly adds full compatibility with Cyberpunk 2077 1.63, including a fix for the scalable HUD that didn’t work with the original 1.63 mod update. In addition to that a fairly severe issue caused by newer nVidia drivers has been addressed that could lead to automatic game settings changes like resolution and various tweaks not being applied.
Download link in the first post of this thread.
RalfKeymasterLooks as if the last CP2077 update broke the HUD shader definition. That can happen occasionally. Thanks for the heads-up.
I’ll take a closer look at the matter next week. Check this thread for info about when an updated build will be available.

You can change the text scale in the Windows settings app (display settings). On Windows 11 the setting is stored per resolution, don’t recall currently whether that also is the case for Windows 10.
Make sure to click the tab in the page linked below that shows the setting for your OS.

Do you have any particular suggestions? No guarantee that every suggestion will be implemented in the end, but I’m always eager to hear ideas for more gestures.
RalfKeymasterIf you indeed went thoroughly through all trouble shooting steps there unfortunately is not much more that can be done. As you correctly noted yourself your issue is a highly individual one apparently. Only you can do the actual diagnosing on your machine, all anybody else can do is hinting you in potential directions which is what the various guides in the help are for. Thanks for your understanding.
If not even older games in Z3D run at stable 90/90 (or 72/72 on Quest at default), use ALT+F to check that, something is so severely off that the best course of action is probably trying a fresh Windows install. Won’t solve any potential hardware config issue, but would at least rule out software related problems.
As suggested above before you do that try setting a game FPS cap in the vorpX menu, 45/90 (36/72 on Quest at default) may feel smoother than an uneven ratio like e.g. 65/90.
RalfKeymasterPlease check the performance optimization section in the vorpX help if you haven’t done that already. Given that vorpX exists since 10 years you can probably imagine that you aren’t the first one with questions regarding performance. To make getting answers to these questions easier for everyone all relevant information in that respect has been compiled into an existing help section years ago.
If you still experience issues after the suggestions given there and are 100% sure that a game you are trying can run safely at >200fps monoscopic, which would be necessary to reach 90fps with G3D (including a little safety margin), check the trouble shooting guide, especially the part regarding apps that may cause a conflict by also hooking into games.
You may also want to experiment with the sync/fps limit options in the vorpX menu. If a game can’t reach your full headset FPS, reducing the FPS to half of that can enhance the perceived smoothness compared to running at an uneven fraction.
RalfKeymasterThe fourth or fifth tutorial chart in the start room explains how all gamepad axes/keys are mapped to motion cotrollers via a shift key. That should help. Let me know if carefully going through the tutorial does not solve your issue.
If it does help however, try to imagine how much easier you could have gotten into the game by just taking a minute or two for that right away. Both your ‘problems’ are taken care of in huge letters. Directly in front of your eyes, with cute little images even to make it less boring. It’s up to you to take that offer though. Noone can do that for you.
RalfKeymasterThe mod shows up in the built-in Windows program uninstall section in the Windows settings.
Alternatively you can move the following file somewhere else temporarily, start the game to reset the graphics options, and finally move the file back:
[CP2077]\bin\x64\plugins\vpxCP2077.asi. -
