RalfKeymaster
I’m pretty sure that quite a few people will hate me for saying that (or at least very strongly disagree), but after spending ~$200 last weekend for all sorts of native VR games, I’m confident to say that at this point in time games that work well with vorpX still provide a lot more long term fun than most of the native games I bought.
RalfKeymasterAlready on the list for the next version. Just forgot to answer your post.
There are a few games where live switching isn’t possible (e.g. Skyrim), but for all that allow it, it will be made available via hotkey.
RalfKeymasterDo you by any chance play with inverted mouse y-axis? That would lead to inverted head tracking. To solve this you can invert the head tracking y-axis in the vorpX ingame menu in that case (head tracking page).
RalfKeymasterI’m not really sure whether I understand the question, but the resolution is per eye. You can safely use the recommended 4:3/5:4 aspect ratios, they are recommended because they work best.
RalfKeymasterI had that implemented for testing purposes a long, long time ago, but in the end decided against it in favor of EdgePeek mode. I’ll reconsider it, but no promises.
vorpX already has far too many options. Multiple solutions for the same thing make things even harder for new users.
RalfKeymasterI don’t want to do that for two reasons:
1. The image quality degradation that comes with that, which would counteract the most important aspect of custom resolutions.
2. The cropping you mention.
It’s better to use the recommended 5:4/4:3 resolutions instead, which also have advantages in regard to async timewarp.
RalfKeymasterIt should do that normally and revert back after leaving the game. If that fails for some odd reason, you can set the default audio device manually in the config app (trouble shooting page).
RalfKeymasterIn some games that can be the case. You can also use the ingame menu with the cursor keys + Enter.
Jun 21, 2016 at 3:58pm in reply to: Vorpx has ruined Fallout 4 and GTA 5 resolutions and now I can't revert them #103890RalfKeymasterYou can restore any changes that the vorpX Game Optimizer did by selecting the optimizer entry for the game and then clicking the “Restore Backup” button.
RalfKeymasterNot really sure what to recommend here. As the message says, this error is reported by the SteamVR runtime when vorpX initializes it. Only things that comes to mind are:
1. Check the HDMI connection.
2. Check whether SteamVR is running and the headset is set to direct mode in the SteamVR options. vorpX does not work in extended mode.RalfKeymasterFor games that don’t have mouse look (like many racing games), you basically have to options:
1. If the game has TrackIR support (many Codemasters games hve that for example), you can use OpenTrack to simulate TrackIR with the headset. Caveat: I’m not sure if OpenTrack already has Vive support.
2. vorpX can map head movement to a simulated gamepad axis. This feature can be enabled on the input page of the vorpX ingame menu. That’s not an ideally solution (rather laggy), but can provide basic head tracking in any racing game that allows you to look around with a gamepad stick.
RalfKeymasterThe most important thing you have to adjust is the field of view (FOV), which has to be higher than for playing on a monitor in full VR mode (120° for Vive).
For some games the Optimizer does that, for others you have to do it in the game’s option menu, the vorpX ingame menu (Skyrim for example has an “Adjust FOV” button in the vorpX menu). If none of these is available an external tool like Flawless Widescreen or Widescreen Fixer might help.
If you didn’t do so already, please read the Essential Hints guide in the vorpX help, which explains this and other noteworthy things. The help also contains a quick and dirty setup “1-2-3 Game Setup” that always works, but doesn’t provide the best possible result.
If games open in Virtual Cinema Mode there usually is a reason for that. Third person games for example ar better played that way. First person games however open in Full VR mode per default. You can disable Virtual Cinema Mode in the vorpX ingame menu (press DEL), but for third person games it’s usually the better choice.
Ark and SC2 are not supported games, they might or might not work.
RalfKeymasterYour key has been sent to the mail address that way used for the purchase. If it did not reach you, let me know.
RalfKeymasterNo. Using widescreen resolutions is a waste of processing power. Use the 5:4/4:3 resolutions I recommended above a few times. That makes your life easier while still providing most of the advantages of a custom resolutions. They are recommended for three reasons:
1. Not all games work well with unusual aspect ratios.
2. They are easier to handle since they don’t have to be added manually.
3. They leave some room for vorpX’s custom timewarp when you turn your head.RalfKeymasterIf you run games windowed, you can often set resolutions higher than your monitor allows. Square resolutions like the 1080×1080 you mention are not recommended. That can and will confuse certain aspects of vorpX in some games and may lead to all sorts of issues ranging from severe rendering artifacts to not working stereo 3D.
