I think we need more games with Geometry 3D support. I think its the only real 3D. Games like battlefield 4 and GTA 5 need it. Please do it.

I had been playing Battlefield 4, GTA V, The Witcher 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and The Division for a long time at 1080p/60fps on a 65 inch plasma TV at a distance of 8.5 ft (optimal distance for that size/resolution according to online calculators & charts). I was able to easily see the difference between Low, Medium, High, Ultra on the TV just fine. But for some reason when I play those games using the Oculus Rift (CV1) and VorpX (or Virtual Desktop) I can’t tell the difference between the highest and lowest settings. In terms of visual fidelity I see absolutely no difference or the difference might for some reason be so small that I can’t detect it. Obviously there is a huge impact on frame rate going from lowest to highest, but I’m curious about the visual fidelity. I am running those games at 2160 by 1200, 90+ fps (depending on game somewhere between medium to ultra)’ 980 ti. Any idea why that might be? Have u experienced the same thing (same visual fidelity regardless of low or ultra settings)?

    Sounds promising, thanks Ralf!

Until then could you answer a quick Skyrim question for me?

I am getting high 80’s FPS with Z-adaptive but when I turn my head (CV1) I get ghosting images rendering it unplayable so I go back to G3D and get 38 – 57 FPS but smoother. Ideas as to the cause in Z-adaptive?

Should veritcal sync in NVidia control panel be on, off or adaptive for Skyrim?

    Many Thanks!

P.S. COD or Battlefield? Going to buy one.

    Hello

I’m new to VR and vorpx. I’ve recently bought a Deepoon E2 and wanted to play Battlefield 4 on it. But i always get the error “vorpX could not initialize your Oculus Rift. It reported:”.
    I’m running:
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    Asus H97 Pro Gamer motherboard
    Intel i7 4790K
    Nvidia GTX 750 Ti

Does VorpX not work on Windows 7 x64 ?
Do I “have to” dual boot ?

    Thanks in advance!

Haha thanks Mack, but I think I read like EVERY thread before I came here to bug them. xD. However the solution below Mack’s comment I will try out here in a moment and report back with my results.

Meanwhile I have another question, I got impatient last night, uninstalled battlefield and reinstalled Titanfall (due to the limited space on my solo 500gb ssd) just to get a game in after a day of wrestling with it. *Kissed Mag 2 before execution*. No hook O.O, oh darn. Is this a thing too?

Thank you for the reply guys!

    UPDATE:
OK, Seems that NVIDIA just has a new Driver update v358.87.
After restarting and retrying Battlefield 4, I DO get the health warning.

Still black screen though, but I’ll search what the others did with this problem.

Ralf thank you for all your hard work! It’s great to see developers having such real time part in helping their customers.

    On to my issue!
    re: Battlefield 4: Campaign
I am able to launch the game & get it to hook to the Oculus pretty consistently. However, after the game starts I get a black flickering screen. The audio is there & the game appears to have loaded the level. Although the screen is black I can tell I’m able to walk around, jump, fire my weapon. The map shows up in the bottom left & doesnt flicker as much. If i switch the Virtual Cinema the virtual screen is still black & flickering but the Virtual Cinema is ambience is fine. Again, getting the game to hook to the Oculus is not a problem. It seems to be a graphics problem causing a black flickering game screen.

    Oculus DK2(firmware 2.12)
    vorpX .9.0
    Oculus Runtime .8
    Radeon Fury X
    Catalyst 5.1 Beta
    Windows 10(up to date)
    Intel 2600k

    things I’ve tried:
    -AMD Raptr off
    -all graphics settings ‘default’
-all graphics settings ‘off’ or ‘Use application settings’
    -Battlefield 32 bit & 64 bit
    -Origin ‘offline mode’
    -Origin ‘in game overlays’ off
    -vorpX ‘Game Setting Optimizer’ applied
    -run ‘vorpX Control’ as administrator
-disable windows Aero, through vorpX Genral Settings

i can see the black border all the way around, the image is square with rounded corners to me.

it like a porthole as NipOc says. the screen looks like its about 4 or 5 inched in front of where it used to be.

i disabled async in the vorpx menu, and while the framerate did go up a few frames the sway and porthole effect remained.

edit: just tried battlefield 3 and i cannot see the top and bottom if i keep my head still. but if i move my head even slowly the sway shows the border all the way around.

(sorry if this is a bad explanation :P)

For testing purposes i can tell that Battlefield 4 is running on 64Bit and its working fine. But i dont get the Error discussed. GTA 5 HT is working fine here, just to make it clear.

If you dont use the original Executable of GTA 5 , dont ask any further questions please , because a modified version of the Executable may produce the error because VorpX cant hook in , and thats not what Ralf is working on , so dont blame yourselves and just answer if you can assure using the original Games Executable and having that discussed Error, otherwise we are not getting anywhere !

    Hey folks,

got vorpX for several days now and so far… it fucked up every single game I tried with it.

Alien: Isolation for instance. When I’m playing it without vorpx everything seems to be fine (everything but the hud is way too small and too close to the edges). When vorpX hooks in I’ve got one tiny picture in the upper right corner of the right eye and another tiny picture in the upper left corner of the left eye. Both pictures seem to be seperated in their basic colors (RGB).

    Screenshot: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=393605133
First thing I noticed here: The screenshot as an strange resolution (2364*1226). By the way, when I start the game without vorpx the resolution is set to 1080p… No chance for me to change the resolution here?!

    What I did:
    – I edited the XML File to enable the Rift support
    – I paused the Oculus service
-> Starting the game, everything fine
-> When I try the same thing with vorpx running (tried pausing and not pausing the oculus service) it get messed up

Second thing: I tried Battlefield 4 but that just won’t work either. But in a different way. I think there is something broken with the 3d stereo view since I can’t open both eyes. I literally can’t focus on the vorpx menu or the game itself. Opening both eyes feels like having crossed eyes if you get what I mean. vorpx is actually hooking in and it’s starting on the correct monitor (the rift…) by the way.

I’m really frustrated since everything seems to work without vorpx and not a single game with vorpx, wasted money or am I just doing something wrong? Any tips?

Battlefield 4 can be a bit finnicky, you might have to try a few times. Please also try the things below:

    1. Disable the in-game overlay in Origin.
    2. Switch from the 64bit to the 32bit version of BF4 or vice versa. Maybe one works better for you.
    3. Go to offline mode in Origin. This circumvents Battlelog and might help with vorpX. However, you will loose online gaming, so do this as a last resort only.

I have done all 3 of those things and it still doesn’t work. :(

Alright I finally got Battlefield 4 to work.

The problems I had to deal with:

Optimus Nvidia driver not switching from intel to Nvidia with Battlefield and other games. I have dealt with this problem in the past and unfortanatly a reinstall of the entire system fixed it on my older system and it also fixed it on my new system which is a Sager NP7330 13″ notebook with the Nvidia 765GTX card optimus technology.

I really didn’t think I was going to get the Oculus Rift working well on a laptop with a switching graphics card. The reinstall seemed to have fixed my switching issues.

Now for Battlefield 4 and VorpX troubles. I pretty much had the same experience as many other users in this forum where I couldn’t get VorpX to work with any games for a week or more. I was about to give up and then there was a friend who I really wanted to show BF4 to in the Oculus so I sat down tonight and went through the forum posts all over again.

I made sure all apps using 3d are turned off such as Windows Aero, and I couldn’t find anything else since i have a fresh install of Windows 7.

I am using Oculus DK2 in extended mode as primary to get this to work.

Now I had seen suggestions to use VorpX to create a shortcut for battlefield and this didn’t work for either exe.

I kept wondering if I was actually launching the game in 32 bit mode. I checked task manager and nope, running in 64 bit still when I thought I was using the 32bit shortcut.

The fix for me that finally got it working:

    Step 1: Launch Origin

Step 2: Right click on battlefield 4 and go down to Game Properties

Step 3: change “When Launching this game” to “Battlefield 4 (x86)”

Step 4: check mark “disable Origin in Game for this game”

When I launched the game it worked. Then I had to remember shift middle mouse button for edge peak which works great.

Other tips related to eye strain and bf4:

I then redid the measurement for Eye Position for Current Device in the Oculus Config to better improve the view for less eye strain. For some reason mine was off, I go between two systems with my Oculus Rift DK2.

I also found that after you put on the Oculus Rift DK2 to close your eyes real hard to help move some of the skin into the goggles around your eyes. I found this in the reddit post about Oculus and Eye strain.

Battlefield is now working well for me and a bit less strain on the eyes. I thought for sure I wasn’t going to get it working but through persistence I was able to get this to work and to share the experience with my friend.

I hope this can help other BF4 lovers to get this working.

This guy Ralf is doing a lot of work answering peoples posts. I believe VorpX is some great software!

(was meant to post here, accidently posted prev in wrong thread)

For Separate Gun and Head Tracking, like when playing VR in Team Fortress 2, is it possible to use ‘VorpX’ and ‘Opentrack’ at the same time?

I just got VorpX and have used it for COD Ghosts, and Battlefield 4. Its great! the only thing that is missing is separate Headtracking to Gun Tracking.

I saw this video of some guy playing Arma 3 with Separate tracking using ‘Opentrack’ and ‘VorpX’ what do you think??? BTW I have never used Opentrack.
