I spent quite a bit time with the Vorpx shader authoring tool to get this game looking pretty good in G3D. All HUD stuff is working great and easily legible at high resolutions. I’m Lighting has been a real challenge and there is still some minor issues depending on the tile and angle but nothing too bad. I did the best I could with minimal shader knowledge and this fix is based on trial/error. This did help advance my understanding in using the authoring tool. I am beginning to see patterns in offending shaders and how to either correct or disable them.

Anyhoo, my profile has been uploaded to the cloud. I will also encourage anyone that has superior knowledge than me on shaders and if they can improve on my profile, awesome!

Other in game settings are Screen Space Reflection, Motion Blur, Bloom and Filmic Noise are off. Resolution of 3840×2160 and everything else maxed out including AA and Supersampling Screen. Vaporum does have a FOV slider which I set in game to 82.0 and with a G3D strength in vorpx of 1.15. These settings is quite immersive.

If you like the Legend of Grimrock series, this game has an awesome steampunk atmosphere with some interesting game mechanics. I am playing with the GOG version.

And just 5 minutes later I realized that I provided incorrect advice on one topic; it appears that Smart Smoothing does NOT work on an app-by-app basis. I had at some point turned it on as my default in PiTool and not realized it, so it was being applied automatically across all my titles. When I turned it off there it turned off in my vorpX titles as well, even when selected for that particular titles. Not a big deal since that’s so easy to turn on and off on a universal basis.

Ralf. I know us Pimax users are a tiny minority, but any chance of getting some of these settings to work some day? FFR is really nice in some titles – an almost free performance boost. (In other titles it looks awful, and in others it doesn’t work at all, but hey, it’s great when you can use it). Overall my 5K+ is a very nice HMD – I really wanted wide FOV and almost zero screen door at something at least kind of slightly resembling “consumer friendly” pricing. Gotta admit, I hadn’t really counted on needing to push 4K resolutions as an absolute minimum for a full VR title; even 2560×1440 really doesn’t cut it – the blurriness is just crazy no matter how much resolution you push. I run my few true VR titles at around 120% SteamVR SS (so over 4000 horizontal pixels) and that’s where things finally get really crisp.

Other thing that might really benefit Pimax users would be if you could figure out a way for your software not to require “Parallel Projections” enabled. That’s a huge performance drain. Easily a 20% to 25% overhead from what I’ve been reading/seeing.

Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 (G3D)

Vegas 2 has even more restricted FOV than the first, so a mod is needed. The mod pushes hand models a bit further out than I wanted, but it is still passable. Much less pop-in though thanks to the mod.

I looked the game up for you quickly, and I have both good news and bad news.

Bad news first: PHG uses Easy Anti Cheat, which blocks vorpX from hooking for online play :(. So like many other potentially good games I too would like to play with vorpX, EAC is stopping the fun. Sorry man.

The better news is that you can at least play the tutorial in offline mode for a few minutes of fun. I’ve managed a quick G3D profile based on Hellblade UE4 that should suit well enough. Find it now on the cloud.

Instructions:

– Launch the game with SpaceFish.exe from the games main directory (not through the Epic launcher)
– Set graphics quality to LOW to avoid blur effects (may need to do this every time you restart the game)

*If the shadows bother you, set G3D Shadow Treatment to OFF in vorpX menu
*Scalable HUD options available also in the vorpX menu
*Cinema mode default, but you can switch to FullVR mode for better world scale

I agree that G3D is usually the best rendition but do not underestimate a proper Z3D implementation!

As everyone else, since my early 3D days using Tridef for flatscreens I would always prefer G3D and get a bit bummed out if it didn’t work well or at all.

However, I have noticed that a few z3D (Z-normal mostly) profiles actually look pretty damn good! And not only that, the performance gains, the correct shadow alignment and far-near controls makes Z3D a worthy contender.

The only issue that could be a deal breaker is the ghosting or outlined blur for near plane objects. However this can mitigated but scaling down the main 3D slider.

Great find, who would have thought that. I’ll change it for the next vorpX release. Normal DOF effects typically look pretty bad in VR since they blur everything withount taking into account where you look at. Hence vorpX’s DirectVR on purpose disables DOF effects in FullVR mode whenever possible.

Should only happen in FullVR mode though. If you play in immersive screen mode, which I think is the profile default, DOF will not get disabled.

I got a Vorpx Profile for State of Decay 2 but the shadows need fixing. A temporary fix for shadows is setting them to low. Motion blur needs to be turned off. Lastly, the hud needs to be adjustable or you’re not going to be able to see health, stamina, or other useful elements unless you tweak the profile to your liking.

If the value in your pass differs 4mm from what looks right to you, I’d probably get another measurement, just to be sure. For me my measured IPD matches with what I use for VR headsets, it’s also pretty much what I get with the Oculus calibration.

Regarding your sharp-edges-method: all headsets get blurrier towards the edges, Vive a bit faster than Oculus BTW, so using edge sharpness isn’t really a good metric to determine your IPD. Might well be that your optician’s measurement is perfectly right and that this is also the value you should use. Sounds unlikely to me that your headset is 4mm off.

the game isnt in g3d, its just znormal and zadaptive, but that right lens distortion is not appearing in my CV1

The game looks fine in G3D aside from the blurry mess on the rightside and from what I could see it looks great not much difference from shadow of mordor try the G3D setting tell me what you see.

Does no one have any idea why the profile makes the right display blurry? i was gonna download this to try it out if there were any potential fixes, i figured it would work pretty easily from the Shadow of Mordor profile but i guess not.. which is a bummer.

I’m not really sure what you mean by “upscaled” feeleing. If you find the image to blurry, you can run games at higher resolutions.

The “Custom Resolutions” section in the help explains how to add resolutions to your PC that it cannot display normally, including a step-by-step guide. Once you added the custom resolutions you can select a quality preset on the DirectVR page of the vorpX menu.

if by “upscaled” you mean that the FOV is too low then stick to games from the beginner’s list linked above for now and make sure to follow all instructions vorpX may display on start. In these (and more) games vorpX adjusts the FOV automatically one way or the other. Until you have a better understanding of the various options you have to deal with FOV yourself that’s probably better.

i got game working pretty nice adjust brightness in menu. sometimes it hard to tell ur distance to enemy u seems to be far away but u end up triggering enemy. Games runs on unity. I dont have basic understanding of how 3D games work so instead i just click middle mouse button to zoom out and look at info i need. Tho its a bit blurry with vive.
