I disabled mouse acceleration already, it makes centering stay in place longer. But, thanks for clarification, Ralf. Sounds like this is beyond your control.
Is there a way to remove the “lag” from the controller head movement? The game is responsive and not lag when I move around with mouse, but when I try the controller head tracking, it’s as if my character was drunk.
Also, any mods out there that remove big hands from First player mode?
So, tried this and it’s “fun” but not really a “VR solution”;
* Walking around on the planet is fine – except by the time you’ve zoomed the image enough to get immersion, you can’t see the elements of the hud (multitool info, location indicators etc) as they’re all off-screen
* As someone mentiond above, head tracking is linked to looking around when walking – but linked to ship direction when in flight.
* Interacting with any of the inventory screens is horrible. The head tracking and the controller “fight” each other and the zoom again means that much of the information is lost around the edges.
* Interacting with NPCs and the monolith or manufacturing facility quests would similarly benefit from different settings.
None of these are the fault of the profile, just the way the game is coded (no option to reposition or shrink the inventory screen menus for example). However they could be addressed by the profile…
I’m new to VorpX so I don’t know if this is possible…but if you could switch between multiple profiles by a keypress…then you could have one “walking” profile, one “flight” profile and one “inventory” profile.
Since the inventory key is always the inventory key, you could bind the inventory profile to the same key; press inventory and the profile switches to a lower zoom setting and with the head tracking turned off.
Flight profile would be harder because there’s no specific “ship” button, it’s the same “action” button as many other things.
I think a lot of games would benefit from this. Can VorpX do it?

I’m slowly getting old for sure, but not that old yet!
In contrast to the everlasting struggle between the Empire and the rebellion unfortunately there is no black and white here, just grey and vague answers.
A lot depends on the game. SLI might not help at all if it doesn’t work for a game with vorpX or your headset. Oculus for example didn’t in the past, not sure whether that is the case still.
Regarding CPU-affinity: Since vorpX runs inside the games, it’s main work is done within a game’s main render thread, so nothing you could manually assign to a different core here. The only thing you could assign to a core yourself is the vorpX Control app which watches for new programs getting started, but that’s more or less negligible. A few percent while vorpX isn’t active, even less while it is running in a game.
So all in all not much to gain by assigning something to an extra core, probably nothing. Since the 6/8 core i7 CPUs usually have a lower max. clock rate than the quad core units, I would even guess that you are better off with a fast quad core i7 model for gaming (which provides 8 logical cores with Hyper Threading enabled).
On a sidenote: not something you can do yourself, but I experimented with assigning the direct mode render thread manually to a dedicated core some time ago within the vorpX source code. In the ~10 games I tested with that there was absolutely zero difference, which pretty much also is in line with the majority opinion among programmers on the matter: in most cases the OS task scheduler simply is better or at least as good at balancing workload than anything a programmer can come up with.
Forgot to mention –
To improve FOV, try using the keys “Pilot Head Control>>>Move Pilot Head Forward/Back/R/L/Up/Down” to improve your FOV and seat position. Besides moving the head position back as far as it will go, you can also use the scroll-wheel on the mouse to pull the view back even further.
Bumping this to see if anyone has had any luck getting IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad working with Vorpx? Fiddled with it for hours last night but kept getting the same results as kissklas above:
– the game does not launch in the headset (Vive, in my case). But after clicking Quick Mission, then selecting a mission and clicking Play, the headset comes alive and shows the loading screen (with red font warning me of low FPS). It then freezes on this loading screen, and the monitor loads up the mission briefing. After clicking Play on the mission briefing, the game loads on my monitor but the image in the headset remains the frozen loading screen.
Kissklas, I tried loading it by associating the the IL-2 BoS “launcher.exe” with the Arma II profile, but got the same results as before. Was there no way to make adjustments in Vorpx to alleviate the small FOV? Am I associating the wrong file?
To the Dev(s) of Vorpx – I’m sure you’d get MANY purchases from the flight sim community if you were able to get this to run, even with limited functionality. BoS is currently on sale and in the midst of a massive reimagining, and they most likely won’t have true, native VR support for many months (I’ve used the extended mode support with my Vive and it’s really really choppy, since the FPS jumps around).
I used Vorpx with Rise of Flight last night and got it working fairly well. It’s supposedly the same engine as IL-2:BoS – hoping you may be able to take a look at it ad see if there’s an easy fix? I don’t even care about any sense of “True 3D,” just being able to move my head to control the camera would be outstanding. The flight sim community tends to have money to burn, and a shortage of VR supported games.
Thanks for the help!
I am a little confused. I get that Vorpx allows for head tracking, and allows some games to use an xbox controller. But is there anything in the mod that allows me to map movement (non-teleport) to one d-pad (left) and use the other d-pad for other purposes?
It seems like none of the games or apps use the d-pad for general movement, which given that that is how d-pads started, is mind boggling.. I see that in some games an apps you can teleport..but for actual games or games that don’t support teleport, thats not convenient..what am I missing? I don’t really want to use an xbox controller if I can help it..for this type of gaming, I find that kind of distracting.
In`control panel deepoon asist
Hi, I just downloaded VorpX and have the Oculus CV1. I played Minecraft using the “VR Classic Controls Intense – immersive mode” and this was totally awesome (I don’t ever feel sick). Being able to move around and turn your head is the best gaming experience ever.
Are there any fps games like battlefield 3 that have this control setup with VorpX. Which FPS games are easy to set up for a non-technical person that play like Minecraft would you recommend?
assist 1.5 works only with 360 controller
Ok, tnx for information about assistant. I will check it out.
Hmm, yep. I use dualshock4 with Inputmapper. I will try with original xbox controller.
PS. Cant edit posts..Timeout
You can use the 1.5 assistant, it ask separately if you wish to install the oculus runtime. Just say no to that.
At least i got the latest oculus thingie working with the latest assistant.
Just never got around the “press A button”, as i don’t have a controller. So i assume you need to have an xbox controller to get it working.. there seems to be no way around it.
Then again, just the demos i got working was enough Vr for me. Hah, it’s horrible! I’ll stick to my monitor. :)
dk2 mode only works with latest oculus builds , i dont have controller so other then vorpx i use virtual desktop which allows you to use your video players and operate your desktop normaly through your hmd. its available on steam for a price but it also lets you play your games in 2d . but vorpx should work u have to use vorpx config before you launch game. did u set it to dk2 in generaL menu settings?
What runtimes are you using? And how can I get something older than the 1.7 installed?
I think the problem is the 1.7 runtime, i can’t get anything else to work expect the calibration thingie in SteamVR and the fireplace room in Oculus. Oculus seems to want an Xbox controller to do anything, and if i try to open some apps, it wants to calibrate and i cant do that without a xbox controller.. as it won’t take anything else but the button A. Crazy.
When he started my processor is dying, vorpxcontrol.exe totally usage him and killing my opera( opera cant load when vorpxcontrol.exe is active in my process)
and i have unplayable 1\2 frame per sec. What’s wrong?
